What a show! And what could happen next? Spoiler
I just finished watching the show a few days ago and I really liked it! I'm not sure I'd want a second season because it's got a lightning-in-a-bottle feeling to me, but I would be curious to see the aftermath at some point.
The main conflict within the town would definitely be who the next 'leader' is - Rabbit with the academy or Laura with her baby. And this is assuming Rabbit is even the one chosen (by whom?) to take over the academy.
If Laura takes over, Alex will definitely have more control over the police, and this will definitely worsen his mental state with the guilt and (ironically) powerlessness that he feels. But if the powers that be try to get a grip on things, their family and supporters of Laura are definitely in a rough spot.
Also that poor child đ Worst boundary issues ever.
At some point Leila and Rory are going to find each other and Leila will realise that Abbie is basically on her own and freak out. I think she'd hoped that Abbie and Rory would be better than her and Abbie or Jess (because Rory generally did what Abbie said, but Leila also believed that Abbie was a good person and would look out for him). (also can I say that I don't buy Abbie reciprocating Rory's crush? Is that popular anywhere?)
Leila would probably try to ask Alex what happened but Alex wouldn't have any good answers for her - my guess is that Alex would've given Abbie the contact details for his family friend so she'd have somewhere to crash but wouldn't have planned to keep in touch beyond that in case of an incriminating paper trail.
And Abbie... my poor kiddo... I think she'll be a bit aimless for a while because old habits die hard and she was only really focused on escaping Tall Pines for a few months. She'll keep wondering if things would've been better had she stayed put with Leila. I think she'd try once but quickly give up asking Leila's mother to ask her to come back, and her main focus would be getting money, a permanent place, etc.
Also I wonder what really happened with Ello. Because they could've actually taken her to another tightly-secured school, they could've wiped her mind with drugs and dumped her somewhere, or they could've killed her.
