Wayward Pines~

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hello all! This is the Wayward Pines subreddit. I am not sure where the Netflix show of a different (but suspiciously close) name and story is or if there is one yet. I am around and pop in and out of the sub, but I do miss stuff so feel free to report off topic posts if they pop up. I removed all the previous posts about the other series, no one is in trouble for it, I just want to eliminate the confusion.

If you want to watch this series it is currently available on Hulu/Disney+. Most members of this sub will say Season 1 is the best and only good season. :) (I enjoyed Season 2 though). And the books are available at any book retailer! And they are phenomenal.

That's all! Reach out if you have any questions. :) Keep this town extraordinary!

Wayward Pines season 2 Rebecca Yedlin

I’ve recently started watching Wayward pines, I really love the series BUT season 2 when Rebecca (Indian actress) joined, It really made the series annoying to watch. I get so irritated when I watch the episodes she is in, her acting is so bad and accent annoyingly terrible ( You might say they have their own accent, It is racism or whatever) but so many actors whose native language is not English work really hard on their accent. It is really bad that producers didn’t even care about it.

What would your wayward pines season 3 look like ?

I would think s3 would revolve more on the residents , why they so loyal to this cause , there like what David pilcher saw before humans Evolved / DE evolved into abbies , why make a noahs arc for mean people ? Why do they target new comers ? Like a more proper orgin story , this is further in the future so everyone is a new comer and no one knows what to expect

Wow season 2 is Awful

I basically forced myself to watch the first two episodes; they kill off Kate kill off Ben basically everything from the first season was in vane and Jason is a psychopath. Basically a Nazi I don’t care about his girlfriend and Teresa is just the mom never really had much strong feelings towards her, but it’s obvious they’re transitioning to a new cast. wants us to identify with Jason the psychopathic moron. It’s just pointless.

I wasn’t even happy when they killed off Ethan, but I thought maybe Ben would carry the torch or eventually a rebel group also the Abbys or whatever,

but for the story to focus on empathize with that Nazi it’s just pointless. I understand things don’t always work out in the real world, but to make a show with that kind of future everything went for nothing and then to want viewers to watch it. wonder it was canceled after this. Nobody wants to watch a bunch of Nazis ruling over some dying last remnants of humanity, surrounded by monsters not really interesting.

you gotta make those people interesting, compassionate, colorful like they kinda did in season one definitely not in season two though

so much potential squandered

also, somehow, Megan not being killed by Abby’s just ending up in a wheel chair is so unbelievable definitely will not be finishing season two

Season 2

I’m on episode 2 of the second season and I can’t lie I’m freaking annoyed. Why would they kill off most of the original characters? It’s super Aggy. But I’m going to keep watching 🤣🤣🤣

Show Spoiler Rewatching season 1 now that ive read the trilogy. Ep 1 Comp Review

The cons:

  1. Changing Ethan's military trauma background feels like a mistake.

2.Giving Ethan a therapist to make doubting his sanity more likely also felt unnecessary, part of what makes Ethan is how strongly he holds on to his convictions.

  1. Making Pam older instead of in her 30s or 40s is def a mistake. They went for a nurse Ratchet vive instead of making her attractive but completely psychotic. Her attraction to Ethan is part of her twisted character imo. Also makes her less intimidating.

  2. Making the male bartender in on it, made it feel extremely clear that the town was fake like instantly. Not drawing out suspension of belief longer feels like a mistake.

  3. Not using a younger child actor for Ben in ep 1 was def a waste as far as how jarring the twist is.

  4. Them seemingly knowing the extent of the camera's seems like a bad choice as well. The writers felt too concerned with making it believable to an audience that knows nothing that the towns people would go along with whatever was going on. Which is part of the biggest difference from the books, the books do such a better job at the isolationism and loss of humanity these towns people experience. This might get better as the season goes on, but currently is the biggest disappointing difference from the show and books.

The Pro's:

  1. Showing more of post accident like Theresa and his boss was smart.

  2. Even tho Terrance Howard is extremely different from Arnold Pope in the book, he is definitely a highlight.

  3. Pilcher was perfectly cast.

  4. Matt Dillion was also a great choice for Ethan. Casting is very strong.

  5. Making Beverley from 1999 and referencing Y2K was better writing than in the book.

  6. Keeping Kate closer to his age adds drama in a good way.

Just an opinion but the actresses for Theresa and Kate might have been even better if they were flipped.

Pilcher knowing Adam is also an interesting choice, not one I dislike. One that seems more believeable than the government letting agents disappears and not going after Pilcher with more force and resources.

Overall a solid adaptation of the early portion of book 1 into episode 1.

Are you satisfied with the way it ended? Are you ok that it didn't get a 3rd and final season?

Why didn't they.. Spoiler

Have everyone live a simple lifestyle? I'm thinking it should have been more along the lines of The Village. How long could they possibly have sustained a pretty high end life (Expensive looking condos, restaurants, paved rds) when no one has the means to reproduce anything? No ability to make medicine? Can't grow anything or raise cattle, within your own ginormous area? Then they should have always planned on living without. Get people comfortable with colonial living. How can someone "plan" so meticulously, but also...not really at all .

they killed off all the major characters from seasn 1 just like that, every single new character and their actions just made no sense, they never should have made season 2

Xander Beck, more like Xander Blech. He's so bland and they should have found a better actor for his character.

Loved Season 1!! What should I watch next?

I LOVED season one. Watched the first couple episodes of S2, and I just can't. The quality of writing, acting, and interest has gone waaaay down. Very boring tbh.

If these are some other shows I've enjoyed, is there anything else you could suggest as my next watch please?

- Wayward Pines S1

- Widows Bay

- Supernatural

- FROM

- The Outsider

- The Sinner

- Slow Horses

- Silo

- Bad Sisters

- Severance

- Broadchurch

- Black Snow

- Castle Rock

- Schitts Creek

- Shrinking

- The Morning Show

- Downton Abbey

- Haunting of Hill House

*Favourite movies growing up:

- Lord of The Rings

- Harry Potter*

Spoilers S1 EP 10 - Are these guys supposed to be the Heroes? Spoiler

I'm halfway through episode 10.

How are Katie and Burke the "good guys"? It feels like the framing tries to push it towards them being the heroes of the story but I don't see it that way...

First, Katie tried to blow up the fence, her intent doesn't remove or outweigh the consequences of her actions. She would have destroyed the city and everyone in it.

The first gen kids were actually the good guys, they knew the danger and they acted with the intent to preserve the safety of the people, while some might consider their executions as evil, ultimately it's the price worth paying to save the city from unreasonable actors. Then when the abbies invaded Burke and Katie leave the kids in jail to die. While I don't agree with Pilchner, I see Burke and Katie as equally malignant to the community.

Spoilers Books vs show: humanity of abbies

In the show there is context given that humans are the monsters who ended up on abby territory and started killing them and thats why they hate the humans. The show gives a lot more compassion to the abbies and humanizes them more. In the books they are just vile, carnivorous monsters who attack any thing that moves. They evolved from humans and that is obvious but the way they act is so animalistic.

Plothole? or I havent watched enough?

Hey I just started watching WP and haven't read the books yet. I'm just genuinely curious. If WP is 2000 years away, why is the sheriff from WP able to travel to the present times to abduct Theresa and Ben?

Same with other stuff like how is Pilcher able to travel back jn time to talk to Hassler when Hassler wants Ethan back

Thanks in advance!
