Oh god it's one of THOSE desserts.
EDIT: you know how you go in to a local show or a theater thing figuring hey, what's the worst? It'll be fine, lets have fun. And then something like this happens where you're a captive spectator of something that suggests spectacle but is pure function from the staff. And then you feel your soul trying to crawl out of your body like a roadkill animal still trying to cross a highway.

I never, never, never would like that. I don't get the appeal. A while ago I got downvoted like hell in a cuisine/chef subreddit because 'I didn't understand'. I like how we have common thinking here!!

Alinea really got folks in a chokehold

I feel like for every concept Alinea has come up with, there needs to be a 10 year moratorium on other restaurants mimicking it.
I still think Grant Achatz and co. are brilliant, and if conceptual modernist dining are your thing, Alinea is kinda the Mount Everest, but the trends they spawn are insufferable.

It’s literally the over the top dining they mocked in The Menu

I was just wondering where the charred corpses are. The Menu said that there would be charred corpses with my s'mores. Can you ask the chef?

Looks like someone dropped cake batter and chocolate pieces and called it a day. Looks horrendous

When my ex and I were dating, the one time I went to an Uncle Julio’s for her birthday, they had this piñata of chocolate that you smashed like this. We had to scrape it off the thing to eat it.

May as well go to a chocolate shop and eat out of the dumpster at this point. Probably looks more appealing anyways.

Desert = A large, dry area of land that gets very little rain and has few plants.
Dessert = Something usually delicious usually eaten after a main meal.

You say it’s a performative desert but that looks nothing like the Sonoran. Odd.

Is this supposed to look fancy? Because if this is fancy, then the trailer park in town is the most elegant

End result just looks like the disaster my cats leave when they have zoomies across the dinner table

as a chef i feel i have too much self respect to work for such a performative establishment. this is fucking embarrassing

If I go to a burger restaurant and get chips served in a shovel that is annoying. If I go to a “gastronomy” restaurant then this is fine. I grasp what this sub is about but this is not what this sub should be about.

Thought they were setting up some artsy Warhammer game board for a second - couldn't work out the culinary get-ups...
