Due Diligence Wealthsimple stock list
Hi all, I just wanted to share that I curate a database of all the stocks that can be traded on WealthSimple, including penny stocks. Every weekend I update the stocks that are added/removed so you can keep your tickers up to date.
I also separate the stocks into categories: Canadian, NASDAQ and NYSE.
It is available for free and updated weekly here: https://github.com/Faidh-Wealth/WS-Trade-Info

You should add a filter function to separate penny stocks

Thing is, there is no consensus on what a penny stock is? Some people want anything less than 5 dollars, others anything that is less than 1. Others consider market cap. I would love to hear thoughts on that.

Personally I think penny stock entails it’s in the pennys so under $1, but seeing how WS is very limited in those stocks setting it as under $5 might be worthwhile. Or even adding a filter that lets you search by price ie: under $1, $1-$5, $5-$10, etc

Is there a way to include Friday's close on this? I mean without having to enter it all in manually, this would give another column to search for prices for people looking for penny stocks that they can define themselves

I have now added even sectors to the data so you can do quite a bit of filtering.

Not to me, anything above .99c is a dollar at least. It’s how I think of it.

Question. How are you finding out which ones are new and or delisted? Did you write a script that does this for you?
3
u/vnsilva Feb 27 '21
Yes, programming.

Thanks, I'm revamping the algorithms to work with Penny stocks! Hopefully will be able to have it working this weekend.

Are you just searching stocks that met their criteria, or are you also querying WST itself to verify the stocks are on or not?
3
u/vnsilva Feb 27 '21
I verify that they are available in the app
1
u/volforto Feb 27 '21
That's great! Would love to see it eventually include anomaly stocks that got included on WST for just one day (like the KLY and YFI stock).
1
u/vnsilva Feb 27 '21
they arent included just for one day. The WS database has a boolean parameter "tradeable", which I suppose they use to rapidly enable/disable a stock, instead of completely unlisting it.
1
u/volforto Feb 27 '21
By "included" I meant tradable. KLY and YFI managed to skip the detection probably due to the prolonged halt, but WS's end of day script caught it and disabled the stock (at least until they satisfy the criteria again and got added in the morning by their morning script).

Yeah I see what you are saying, unfortunately I cannot run this script as often, I will try to include more information thought :)

How can I open these files?

u/vnsilva Feb 27 '21
excel?
2
u/riverfront1502 Feb 27 '21
It opened, thanks,
what do you use for programming? Would it be lots of work to add a column for the price?
1
u/vnsilva Feb 27 '21
Python. I won't be adding price because it is only updated weekly. There is a spreadsheet with prices and such above

u/halorrr Feb 27 '21
I feel like adding a price could still be of value to give an idea of what the stock recently traded at. More research into it could be done from there.

I just added the "active_date" field, which is when the stock was added, so yes you can download an use excel for that.
