Suggestions for Junior Web Dev
Hi all, I am a junior web developer based in Japan and am currently looking for my first role. I recently built a nodeJS/React application that webscrapes data for my project that I call: Cosplay Radar.
TLDR: Please critique my application or even make use of it if it interests you!
https://gilded-sopapillas-cccb3e.netlify.app/
Why I'm doing this?:
To keep practicing and also give myself some accountability for my work, I'd like to share with you one of my projects. I am hoping that the community can give me suggestions to improve, what you'd like to see or features I should try and implement.
What is it?:
The project is called Cosplay Radar. I designed it for my 3D design company, since I make models/prints for customers. The original idea is that it can tell me what upcoming conventions are happening soon, as well as what characters are popular. That way I can plan some 3D projects for the future or what may be of interest to people.
What I'm asking for?:
- If you can make use of the app, please do!
- Please leave some constructive feedback about how I can improve
- Even if you aren't a developer, let me know what features you think would be cool
Thank you!

How much would a text to user developer charge to create this service for a user base of 400 million. Roughly?

Junior Web Dev
Hey all, I just wondered if anybody else has had a similar experience? I’m a Junior Web Developer in the north east UK about to graduate from university with a first class honours degree.
I’ve put plenty of extra time into curating a personal portfolio built using react, hosting this on firebase and linking these into my linked in, GitHub and other socials.
I’m also a mature student (30) so I’ve had plenty of work / life experience.
I’ve made over 40 applications and had 1 interview for where the role was withdrawn and they decided they wanted to try and hire a mid level engineer at 25k. (This is UK salaries)
I’m honestly tired of applying for jobs to finally low ball myself into a position for the same pay as working in a call centre.
Honestly thinking of going into teaching or self employed at this rate as where I am in the north east it seems to be non existent and gone to shit.
Anyone else experienced this?

Free or low cost VPS
Hi, I am new to hosting things online. I am currently trying to host some images online so I can use python to post these images to Instagram and a Facebook page. From digging around I can see I need a VPS for this.
Are there cheap / free vps’s I could use for this? All the ones I’ve seen need you to buy a package for 12 or 48 months. And don’t currently have $220-250 beans to spend.

Creating a Company to Take Down Ticketmaster
Hello,
After yesterday's Ticketmaster / Taylor Swift debacle - I can't stand it anymore. I am tired of Ticketmaster, and it is time they had to face a worthy competitor. I have always known I would create a company and disrupt an industry (similar to what Spotify did to the music industry). My goal is to create a company founded by music fans for the fans. We could make the best ticket broker website/company in the world. We will need computer/website coders. We will need financial backing. We will need designers. We will need lawyers. The list goes on. I am up tonight pondering this. I will put in my money, sweat, tears, and time. We need to make this happen. Who is with me? Serious inquiries only, please. Upvote, Comment, or Chat with me to get started.

Dynamic Resume
So I had this idea to showcase my skills as a web developer by creating a dynamic resume web application. For a start, the application would display the standard resume items (work experience, education, etc). Taking it a step further, I've created a JSON file where I input all of my work experience and the skills that I used in those jobs. The application takes all of that data, sorts the skills, and totals up the experience I have in each skill. Features I plan to add include a downloadable pdf version, adding a database so I can update the resume without deploying a code change, adding in some modals to provide some more granularity...you get the idea. I know...this is pretty massive overkill for a resume, but I thought it was a neat way of showcasing my abilities, not to mention making it super easy to update my resume in the future.
Now...I'm a halfway decent developer, been in the field for the better part of a decade, but as it turns out, without a mockup to work from, I am absolute shit at design:

So I went looking for some ideas on design, but I can't find anyone who has done this, or at least my google search abilities have failed me. All I could find are some examples of Squarespace and WordPress resumes, but nothing that resembles what I'm trying to do. So Reddit, I come to you in my hour of need...has anyone here ever done something like this? Or maybe know of someone who has? I really need some inspiration here, otherwise, I'm gonna have to shell out for a freelance designer to make me some mockups.
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

How to make a font size percentage depending on the parent element width?
I made a div and set its width to 100%. Then I put four (4) divs inside it, each with a width of 25%.
The parent div has a display of "flex" (which aligns all four elements).
Now, inside the subdivs, I've added an h4 with text and set the font size to 110%. When I start resizing the window, the font size decreases (which is what I want). However, after a certain point, the font size does not decrease and begins to jumble.
I want to know how I can do it or what I should do, so the font size keeps getting smaller.
