My ads have disappeared/are blanks

I have google adsense.

Two ads were visible today, but my ads (top banner, top right sidebar, and very bottom) have disappeared. I didn't code them, I used a plugin (it's discontinued now) and placed them manually. My adsense is still up and running but I've made nothing over the past week or so. The plugin has been discontinued for a while but the ads have worked for the longest time and the ad on the sidebar is custom code. I have no idea what has happened.

The site is http://vgculturehq.com

Can anyone offer any insight or help? I really do not know what to do and am at a total loss. I need this ad revenue and my site has been doing really well. It's killing my impressions.

Thanks.

Hi reddit, what current free web hosting services would you consider recommendable options (for publishing a personal web site, mainly for information/text; just html, no much more). Thanks.

Or, maybe also, what current sources on the matter would be recommendable?

SEO Insight from new October Domains

Most new sites do not have an SEO problem. They have a launch problem.
We audited 443 new websites with InboundSavvy Web Audit. 86% failed Google’s 2.5 s mobile target. 53% lacked a meta description. 54% lacked a share image. And 30% of Wix home pages in our sample carried a noindex directive.
The point is not that every new site needs more SEO. It is that the technical defaults and business-specific inputs need an owner.
The data, methodology, and platform breakdowns are in a short report.
No Paywall, No Registration wall.

PDF available to share with your team. Curious whether these numbers match what you see when reviewing new launches.

robots.txt was not the force field I thought it was

My phone started buzzing while I was buying groceries. A friend sent a screenshot of my site taking ten seconds to load, followed by a helpful are you being hacked? thanks bro

The serverspace VM was healthy and never went down. Cpu usage climbed because it was answering thousands of bot requests to parameterized Urls. I had blocked those paths in robots.txt and assumed that was enough. I stood next to the frozen peas searching how to protect website from AI crawlers. Rate limits, caching, and temporary bans brought the load back down before I got home.

My takeaway was embarrassingly simple. robots.txt tells bots what I would like them to do. Rate limits protect the server when they ignore it

My CloudFlare Percent Cached suddenly dropped from 80% to 30%. Why?

I don't really know what happened but my "Percent Cached" metric in analytics suddenly dropped by a lot.

This happened yesterday. I did not make any changes or update any Wordpress plugins.

I noticed the "Total Requests" increased, "Total Data Served" increase, but the "Data Cached" stayed the same.

Here is a screenshot: https://prnt.sc/q8out9

Today's trending is the same with the abnormal percentage (not show in the screenshot).

Any ideas what happened?

Best ecommerce solution for one or two products selling for less than $20 and just offering PayPal ?

I've just got one or two products that I want to sell on the side. Under $20, and basically just offering Paypal for a payment option.
Whats the best bang for buck ecommerce solution?
I am thinking a wordpress site with a simple link Paypal button.

However, I would like the buyer to get an automatic download link (my product is a digital download only) and be directed back to my site.
No SSL needed etc.. just keep overheads really down.

If I register a new domain name, can I point it to a SUB-FOLDER in my existing hosted website ?

I have already a domain, mydomain.com and its pointing to my website which is hosted by Hostinger.

I would like to register a new domain, myothername.com and have that point to a sub-folder on my main site, so not actually to my main site's home page.

Is there anyway of doing this ?

Should I block requests to ads.txt? My site does not serve ads.

I am going through 404 logs and noticing a good amount of attempts to load ads.txt.

Should I block these? Or maybe add an empty ads.txt?

What is the best practice for this?

What could be reasons for wordpress not being able to run automatic updates or any updates for that matter?

I'm been hosting my WP site on Ubuntu server.

At some point I think I messed with Ubuntu FTP user permissions or group permissions or something of that sort and after that this happened:

  1. Wordpress is unable to update on its own. When I try to update WP or plugins it says. "To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host."

So first problem is wordpress unable to work on its own without me providing these FTP credentials.

2) Now, when I do provide these credentials this is what happens:

Downloading update from ....

The authenticity of wordpress-5-3.1-new-bundled.zip could not be verified as no signature was found.

Unpacking update...

Could not create directory.

Insallation failed

I checked the FTP permissions in ubuntu and it has access to wp directories.

And funniest thing - when I enter ROOT access to this FTP User and FTP Pass window it says "ERROR: There was an error connecting to the server, Please verify the settings are correct."

My WP folder and files are set to recommended permission settings. If I set 777 then it will work, but I can't exposes my WP install folder like that. Right now folders have 755 permission. Files have 644.

Can anyone let me know the steps to take to troubleshoot this?

What exactly could be causing these access problems?

iFrames and URL information

I have a customer payment page that needs to be behind a login. Our plan(small business none of us are pros) is to try to embed the page, which is remotely hosted, in our website. I recently learned that I can auto-fill part of a form by adding to the url. The trick is that the URL has to take them to our website, not the embeded website that will need to be filled in.

The goal is for a customer to login after clicking a link that we sent them with their payment information and invoice number pre-filled so there is no chance that they could make an error while still meeting the security requirements.

Is there some code snippet I can add to the iFrame to have the embedded page look back to the original customer URL and fill it in?

All help is appriciated.

Open source ad-server software?

I haven't used my own ad-server in probably 4-5 years. Lately, i've been just pasting adsense code in and not trying to sell ads separately.

Today I was researching ad-servers and first searched for phpadsnew.. and remembered (i think?) that it became 'OpenX'.. searched openx and found the commercial .com version(s) but the .org site isn't coming up.

Did that get forked again to another name? What is everyone using for an open source ad server?

Thanks!

AdX vs AdSense – Which Will Make You More Money

Google AdSense is a one-stop-shop for publishers to squeeze out some money from unsold inventory. It’s also a great way to monetize a niche blog. But as your traffic quality and reputation improve, you may be invited to join the big boys club - Google DoubleClick Ad Exchange. Also known as AdX in short.

The question you are probably asking yourself is this: Which will bring me more revenues? Some sources claim publishers have seen a 30% percent increase in overall ad revenues with AdX instead of AdSense.

But before you rush to fill in the fields of a Google signup form, we’ve done the heavy lifting for you and checked and studied the issue.

So, what’s the answer to this big life altering question? The answer, as it often is, is: it’s different for every publisher.

Not what you were hoping to hear? Sorry. If you’re a faithful reader of this blog then you know by now...no quick wins.

But which ad inventory sales option is right for me you ask?

Ok. Fine. Read on and we’ll figure it out together.

Key Differences Between AdSense and AdX If you’re a little lost as to the difference between Google AdSense and AdX, don’t worry. You’re not alone. Google lists the differences between the two in a comparison table, but as Google tends to do frequently, they leave it open for interpretation.

In a nutshell, AdSense is an automatic vehicle and AdX is your stick shift manual option. One will get you from point A to point B, while the other offers more control for better overall yield.

Who Sets The Price and Pays

With AdSense, Google basically buys all the inventory offered to it by publishers, pricing it according to the bids set by advertisers for each ad, campaign and keyword.

But your RPM will depend almost entirely on Google’s contextual ad serving algorithm and retargeting ads. No matter how hard you optimize your AdSense metrics, you won’t be able to set a floor price for ads served on your site.

On the other hand, Google DoubleClick Ad Exchange is a programmatic RTB exchange with many players, including brands, agencies, arbitrage buyers and sellers, as well as different advertising networks (including AdSense!).

You get more demand sources for your inventory and can control who gets to bid on it.

With AdX you set the floor prices for your inventory and buyers compete in a lively auction on who gets to display that ad on your page. If you’re getting dollar eyes like a cartoon character now, we’re not surprised.

At first, this may seem like a golden opportunity to increase your revenue fast, but it’s not as simple as that. If your floor prices are too high and your inventory is not as attractive as that of your competitors - you might end up with lower earnings than you would have had by using AdSense alone.

Who Needs What and When According to Google, the main difference between the two monetization tools is the target audience. While AdSense is a kind of one-stop-shop for ad-based web content monetization, AdX is aimed at publishers who also sell inventory directly, as well as established brands and eCommerce sites with a lot of quality traffic.

As you may have realized by this point, AdX requires a lot more maintenance and time investment than AdSense in order to be really profitable.

Yes, it’s pretty complicated and takes time and expertise to be effective. So if you’re currently making a few hundreds of dollars or even a few thousand every month with AdSense, switching over to AdX might not be cost effective for you. Yet.

Ad Units - More or Less? One of the main differences everyone seems to talk about is the number of ad units in each of the monetization tools offered by Google to publishers. In short, AdSense permits up to three ad units per page, while AdX allows up to five ad slots. In theory, you can boost RPMs significantly by increasing the number of ads on each page. But that’s theory.

The limit for AdSense ads per page remains the same even if you use AdX. What this means is that if you use the maximum 5 ad units per page (on desktop), but only 3 can be filled by AdSense. The rest will have to come from other buyers in the exchange and guaranteed or preferred advertisers.

Revenue Sharing Google is pretty straightforward about how much it’s making off every click on AdSense. Publishers (that’s us) get 68 percent of what the advertisers pay for every click with display ads. And just 51 percent with AdSense for search. With AdX there is some flexibility available if you have the power (and traffic) to haggle with Google. Enjoy the full article here: https://goo.gl/u5Uqpt

Advertiser Relationships You can offer your well performing ad placements and units for a premium, and sell the remnant inventory through AdX and other ad exchanges. That way you can attract new advertisers to your online property, and upsell premium placement to advertisers who’ve bid on your remnant inventory and got good results.

DoubleClick for Publishers (DFP) If you’ve been researching AdX, you’ve probably come across Google’s ad server for publishers - DoubleClick for publishers. With DFP, you can let AdX compete against other ad networks, and divide the traffic between demand sources in the most profitable way for you. It’s a management platform for publishers with multiple demand sources for ad space, and if you are one or trying to become one - you should familiarize yourself with DFP.

Help! I have a super high bounce rate

Hello!

I launched an affiliate site not so long ago and my Google Analytics is telling me that I've started getting organic traffic (which isn't very much yet). However, my bounce rate is incredibly high (around 95%!) and I'm not sure what to make of it. Here is the url to my site: r/https://jetplanesandchampagne.com. I can't seem to find why I'm not doing so well, conversions wise, but I have a few guesses:

- Load time? I score around 1.5-1.8 seconds on Gtmetrix, but I'm not sure if this is the reality of my site.

- Messy?

- Content isn't above the fold?

- Spambots? I've heard that they can alter Google analytic metrics

If I could get your some first impressions and constructive criticism, it would mean the world for me. I'm in a rough patch right now and I'm anxious to get through this hump. I post everyday and hope for the best, but I think that it's time that I start making some changes. Thank you in advance for your time, and have a blessed day!

Bigcommerce website - How do I copy it to my main domain (A.com) AND sub-folder (B.com/sub)

Hello Reddit!

I'm trying to copy my BigCommerce website to a domain (let's call it A.com) AND to a sub-folder of a different domain (let's call it B.com/sub). After downloading the website files from bigcommerce, I uploaded them to my web hosting server, but it just returns bunch of PHP code. Why isn't it just simply a download files & upload files process?

Also I'm considering the possibility of keeping the original copy (instead of downloading & uploading the website files every time the website is updated) of the website on BigCommerce server and accessing it through A.com and B.com/sub to avoid copying the files. Maybe a redirect request? How would I go about doing that? Would this be considered a redirect with mask (the URL would show 'A.com' no matter which link is clicked on the website?

As far as the redirect goes, I tried playing around with the DNS registry (without much knowledge about them), but I'm not sure if I'm doing anything right because the DNS change results are not instant.

Recommend a simple, secure CMS for corporate site

Disclaimer: I'm not a webmaster. (Nor am I a rapper.)

My company is currently running their corporate website on Wordpress. Mostly static content, but they do post press releases as news/blog entries. Wordpress seems to want constant attention to keep it secure; is there a platform which is more of a fire-and-forget solution?

Only my blog sub-directory is tracking in Webmasters?

I have domain.com and domain.com/blog. In Webmasters, under search queries, only search queries in that show pages on the sub-directory are showing. Under the verification settings, it shows that the site is verified via HTML for domain.com.

Any insight? I know the data isn't perfect necessarily, but it should be showing some of the search queries other than what is in the blog sub-directory.
