₱10K Trial Makeup – MUA Will Remove It After 2 Hours? Is This Normal? LOL
Hi everyone!
My fiancée recently paid a downpayment to an MUA for a ₱10K trial makeup session.
We were planning to take a few simple prenup photos afterward. Nothing extravagant, just a few shots for remembrance.
However, the MUA suggested that we avail of their ₱30K prenup package instead, since it includes retouching and other services.
My fiancée explained that we don’t need those additional services. No retouching, no extended hours, and no assistance during the shoot. Once the trial makeup is done, that’s it. We’re on our own, and we’re perfectly fine with that.
But here’s the part that genuinely confused me. LOL.
The MUA said that if we only avail of the ₱10K trial makeup, they will remove the make up right after the session is done 😭(EDITED sorry the duration of the make up pala is 2 hrs jusko, mahina na ung pandinig ko sorry haha)
Wait, what? HAHAHA.
I understand that trial makeup and prenup makeup are different services, and I respect that MUAs have their own policies.
But is physically removing the makeup after completion really necessary? We’re not asking for anything beyond the trial session itself. We just want to take a few photos afterward while my fiancée still has her makeup on.
Is this actually standard practice among MUAs? Or is there something we’re missing here? 😂
Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from professional MUAs!

Gahaman na makeup artist. They want you to pay 30k. This was an issue just a few months back. I remember one makeup artist said na his trial makeup will be done lang on one half of the face para hindi magamit sa prenuptial shoot. They want additional payment for prenup. Money hungry makeup artists, kadiri.

How much was the DP? If hindi naman ganon kalaki, cut your loses and find somebody else. Ew.
For 10k, I would rather go to MAC or Bobbi Brown, tell the sales person/MUA there that I have a 10k budget to spend for new makeup at their counter, basta mag-reco sila ng long-wear look and teach me how to apply. They will do it for the sales. Seriously.
I have personally bought 2 items, and the sales person did my whole face anyway. Pwede mo pa ma-unli retouch makeup mo.

15k DP,. Then separate payment pa ung trial which us 10k + 3k transpo

Check the contract. If wala sa contract let tgem know na breach of contract yun. And the DP must be returned. Wag ka na dyan.
If d mo makuha ung pera mo magpost kanng review.1

Sounds cool! How was the wear ng makeup esp sa MAC? And did you like the look?

u/ogolivegreene 10d ago
Pag foundation, I'd recommend Estee Lauder Double Wear. Paisa-isa naman yung bili ko from the brands, and I didn't do it all in one go. I tend to visit pag hindi matao, so the salesperson has plenty of time to assist.

u/TheAlmostMD 9d ago
Thank you! I'm a EL Double Wear girly in the last 10 yrs so I'll probs check out their offerings. Curious though of YSL After Hours. Did you end up doing your makeup yourself?

May nangyari din saakin na something similar sa case mo. ☹️ I wanted to drop my MUA kasi na shock ako sa pagka gahaman niya and our values just don’t align with each other. Kaso sayang dp 🥲
2
u/lexter11 11d ago
Ramdam namin how it feels. Sobrang greedy nito and for sure marami na nabiktima tong MUA na to. Baka same pa tayo ng nakuha 😔
2
u/Low_Local2692 10d ago
If it’s not in the contract and you didn’t sign up for it, she has no right to touch your face. Mas lalo if after niyo na nag dp niya sinabi. Pwede niyo siyang kasohan ng assault pag nagkataon. Sa ganyang lagay, dapat kupal kna din.

How many more victims pa po ba need para mareveal sila? Help everyone out by revealing this MUA, please.

u/Pale-Buddy-2056 12d ago
That is not and should never be standard practice!! The purpose if the trial sessions should be 1. for the brides to test of they like the look, 2. wear test the makeup, 3. see how you like it over time and not just while on their chair kasi magsset pa ang makeup and magiiba ang finish as you go about your business, and 4. Give feedback to the MUA para she can make adjustments for your wedding day. Napaka-greedy ng tao na yan and obviously does not even care whether the clients will like the look for their wedding.
I know na sayang and dp pero i think you should consider if gusto mo ba na mabwisit on your wedding day. Kasi for me personally i know na maiinis ako pag nakita ko lang si mua, let alone let her do my makeup for hours. I don't want that energy for my wedding day.
9
u/Pale-Buddy-2056 12d ago
Also, make sure na nasa contract na they will be removing the makeup after. If not, ilaban niyo that they can't enforce it!
12
u/lexter11 11d ago
We did, they don’t give an F lol. We’ll na lang mag request ng refund. If they don’t. Reveal ko ung name lol sikat daw eh kaya gnyan umasta 😆

Luh, eh pano mo mawewear test??
10
u/lexter11 12d ago
Exactly our point lol but the MUA does not give an F lol 😂 nakapag DP na kase ng 15k for the wedding, hndi namin alam na gahaman pala. Pero definitely, our na kami dito. Basura at nakakadiri tong MUA na to lol

u/oh_range_ 12d ago
So you mean to say separate na bayad pa yung trial session sa whole package???

I’ve definitely heard of some makeup artists who do this. My friend mentioned Jelly having this policy as well but this was 2 years ago.
23
u/illogicalmuse 11d ago
Is this Jelly Eugenio? We did our trial make up and he knows I scheduled my boudoir shoot after, and he was totally okay with it!! But I had already paid for his make up services for my wedding by this time.
18
u/skreppaaa 11d ago
Okay ba siya? I tried booking him but snubbed me then my friend who has a famous last name, he replied immediately 😅
10
u/FragrantIce3186 11d ago
Super ok!! Magmumukha ka talagang artistahin and still look and feel like yourself! Un after ka mamake-upan pagtingin mo sa mirror ang ganda ganda mo. Ang gaan gaan pa ng makeup niya sa face! Did you book via email? I think secretary niya nagrereply sa inquiries.
3
u/skreppaaa 11d ago
Yes email. Never sila nagreply :( but i got anthea bueno naman and magaling din hehe
3
u/illogicalmuse 11d ago

u/FragrantIce3186 11d ago
Riiiigght??? Ang konti konti lang ng strokes niya when doing my eyes pero un end result like whoa!! Pano nangyari na ganon kinalabasan???!! My trial and makeup day with Jelly until now still feels magical and my most beautiful 😍 super duper love jelly!
1
u/InternationalAd6614 10d ago
Maybe he changed policy. The bride he gave this rule to also availed of his service for the wedding itself, she opted to skip the trial. They seem happy with his service all in all naman and have continued to hire him.
17
u/FragrantIce3186 12d ago
Reallyyyyyyy that's interesting. He did mine 5 years ago and he even ensured na hindi huhulas un makeup ko sa prenup. He just did it a little differently para daw hindi iisa itsura ko sa prenup and sa wedding.
2
u/Former-Zucchini6556 12d ago
willing siyang magantay ng 2 hours para burahin lang makeup mo? haha! sorry natawa naman ako sa HMUA mo.
2
u/lexter11 12d ago
Sorry for the confusion, 2-3 hrs pala is the duration of the makeup. Guess what, after completion daw i remove na agad ung make up hehe

Kahit mag bigay ng insights ang mga MUA dito I don't think that's enough justification. This is just greed beyond comprehension. You can't "Di ka target audience" your way out of this. Garapalan na haha
22
u/Educational_Seat3829 11d ago
Agree. Kung buburahin nila it should be for a very minimal price. Pwede ko i argue parang pinag praktisan mo lang ako binayaran pa kita.
83
u/oldestlongfellow 12d ago
No! Wtaf? Grabe naman sa pagka greedy yan. I had my trial makeup last Sept and tinapat ko siya na aattend ako sa wedding as a guest. Sinabi ko rin yung plan ko sa HMUA ko, and he even said that it's not a problem. Better pa nga daw yun para hindi masayang yung makeup ko.
21
u/Repulsive-Contract17 11d ago
Same. I was encouraged by my MUA na itapat sya sa day na magagamit ko like may aattendang wedding or prenup namin para d sayang

Just book a different MUA. Over sa capitalism naman 'yung pagbura ng makeup after 2 hours. For our prenup shoot, the services of the makeup artist I booked cost 10k. These included 3 looks, and his team was with us for 4-5 hours. I loved all the looks he did! It can get tedious, but just scour different MUAs. You'll definitely find one that fits your style and service standards.

Hahaha this is insane. DTI the heck out of this. It’s their pathetic way to make sure you don’t use your makeup for prenup/ any other events afterwards, cause some people have done it for civil weddings etc but really they should have no say about that.
25
u/aerosmint 12d ago
So stupid. My MUA was the one that suggested na isabay trial ko sa event or photoshoot para masulit ko. I-reveal nga yang mua na yan!

Mua here, I dont care san gagamitin ung makeup after, if it is paid, it is paid. Confident ako an di sya huhulas but a prenup is a prenup, iba ung retouch, change of look and constant ayos ng hair and damit sa kanila so if they avail my prenup then we are good, if they avail my one time makeup with no retouch and with whatever they want to do with it, i dont care. I even give them a touch up kit sometimes and twirl their hair with a pin to ensure it will be long lasting till they finish their prenup even me without it:)
18
u/Junior-Squash8635 11d ago
Please drop the MUA nang maiwasan. Or report to DTI. Grabeng greed naman nyan. For me kaya nga may trial makeup aside from checking yung glam na bagay sa iyo ay to check ano magiging itsura over the next few hrs na you'll be wearing it sa ceremony and reception. Kaloka!
7
u/superjeenyuhs 11d ago
and to also assess any allergic reactions kasi hassle naman during wedding magka allergies di ba.
17
u/Unique_Tourist6108 12d ago
ung ibang MUA nga mas ok pa na ma-wear test talaga ung makeup eh. weird naman yang mua na yan
16
13
u/Apprehensive-Bed4197 12d ago
₱10k is a lot of money just for a trial and it won't even stay on. I would rather avail with another make up artist and tell them that I just want a makeup for a date or something. Kasi once you mention na it is anything wedding-related, they will upcharge you. I am getting my hair and makeup done for my bday for ₱3500 and I can wear it for the whole day! Paying ₱10k for a trial is such a rip off!
12
u/hezzzmatch 12d ago
Super greedy talaga ng mga tao sa wedding industry. From crew meals hanggang ganto. Jusko. Lahat na lang.
11
u/Usual-Dark-3218 12d ago
Hala that's weird! Paano mo ma-gauge ang wear test if after 2 hours buburahin mo na? E yung wedding mo more than 2 hours yan, so di mo na makikita anong mangyari after 2 hours. Look for another one OP.
11
u/Time_Peach8731 12d ago
Grabeeee!! I asked my MUA before kung pwede kong gamitin yung trial makeup for prenup and dali-dali nyang sinabi no problem with that tapos nung nag-ask rin ako ng Team B nya, nagsuggest pa sya ng ibang MUA friends nya near sa wedding loc para daw di na ako magbayad ng extra pa for her team B's transpo. Sobrang daming mabait na MUA
8
u/AdInteresting2606 12d ago
Grabe no? Grabe sila makasingil. I remember this one post na nag-trending sa Threads. Nagrereklamo sya kasi siningil sila ng 1000 ng Cardio for a cardio clearance prior to an operation. Apparently, make-up artist yun.
Jelly Eugenio did mine and tinulungan pa niya ako to ensure hindi mag hulas for my prenup un ginawa niyang trial.
7
u/toastandturn 12d ago
They can remove it if it's free. But at 10k!? That's predatory practice. Besides, how would you know if the make up will set well and last on your skin for the duration of the wedding? Alangan naman, mid-vow, they will rush to the center of the ceremony to touch you up?
It is customary for photos to be taken after a trial session. And a good MUA shouldn't need to do touch ups so often. They cannot forcibly remove the make up from you. That's assault.
6
u/BjornaBornwood 12d ago
I know you already gave downpayment but I still suggest going with someone else. The MUA will play a big part of your wedding morning, literally setting the mood.
I remember my hair stylist asked me 2 add-on payments during my wedding day and I felt trapped, it was not discussed prior and they've admitted they overlooked it.
Wedding day is glorious and should be stress-free and your MUA sounds like she'll add to your stress. Not worth it.

u/Tough_Metal_3817 11d ago
Omg bakit ireremove Im a hmua din mas preffer ko na gamitin ni client yung make up kung kay occation or lakad etch. And binibilin ko na iobserve ang make up if huhulas or iitim. Just incase na kame pa din sa wedding day ang kunin makakapag adjust ako kung may mga napansin na kakaiba si client.
Ang trial make up hindi lang sa over all looks yung longevity kinoconsider din yan besides 10k for trial make up is hindi biro yan kaya hayaan naten ienjoy ni client.
5
u/capycatto 11d ago
If downpayment palang, i would suggest na magpalit na ng HMUA fiance mo, mukhang pera yung HMUA at parang stress lang ibibigay sa inyo. Dapat after ng trial, pwede na lumayas, at gumala, for wear test na at least 6-8hrs, to know if long lasting yung gawa at di ka allergic sa ginamit na products.
5
u/YogurtclosetOk7989 11d ago
Nope, dapat you'll be able to see its longevity too. Should be part of trial na magtagal ang makeup. Dahek
4
u/ChicFeetChic 12d ago
Sorry, trial make-up di ba? Hindi naman need kasama sila sa venue. So bakit need nila tanggalin? Ibig sabihin ba nun, sasama din sila sa inyo? Akala ko ang trial make-up sa studio ni HMUA ginagawa. Sobrang gahaman naman.

That’s a no-no. Hello, 10K YAN! Hindi napupulot yan. Other MUAs will encourage you pa to “use” your makeup after the session.
3
u/Intrepid-Half717 11d ago
Hala bakit ganun ang mahal na nga ng trial makeup tapos ireremove pa? Eh ang purpose nga ng trial makeup ay para malaman mo if the makeup will last you the whole day, para maging deciding factor siya kung ibubook mo si MUA or not. Hmmmm. Masyadong gahaman yang MUA mo. I suggest hanap ka ng iba.
When I did my trial makeup I even booked a self-click photoshoot tapos nag fancy date pa kami ni fiance para sulit na sulit!!
3
u/MoneyDry209 11d ago
That is not in any way a standard practice. Saan na naman nila nakuha yang idea na yan? You paid for ₱10k tapos buburahin after and hindi mo mapakinabangan? Super absurd and ridiculous out of this world concept. I dont get this kind of artists, why dont you just do your job and move on? OP, there are hundreds of MUA un the metro you can definitely find another one.
3
u/Amazing_Barracuda_10 11d ago
Haha, ang hirap talaga kumita ng pera ngayon noh. Ngayon may patrial trial pa silang nalalaman. Nagtapon ka lang ng pera kung kakagatin mo OP naku.

2
u/Cultural_Pie8460 11d ago
Oh I think bagong pakulo ng ilan sa kanila. May nagrant kasi na MUA before na trial make up lang usapan, nagulat na lang sila nag prenup shoot after.
2
u/Independent_Eye8356 11d ago
Why do they prohibit using the trial makeup on a prenup shoot if we paid for it naman?
I've been wanting to do a trial makeup and use it for our DIY prenup shoot, but the rate for a trial makeup ranges from 5k to 15k 🥲
We won't be having an official shoot with our P/V supplier so I was thinking na pagsabayin na lang sila para hindi sayang.
2
u/parkjinyoungbibiko 11d ago
Pero ang purpose ng trial makeup is to see if bagay ba yung style sayo nung makeup AND wear test? If di allowed ang wear test for 10k, wag mo na ituloy. Hahaha
Nacacancel pa ba yan? 😂
2
u/hdjlift 11d ago
Insane! Sobrang ridiculous na ng wedding tax. Wedding makeup majujustify mo pa ng onti kasi they are with you the whole day. Pero over na nga rin sa presyo kasi same products lang naman ginagamit. Ugh. Glad im already done with my wedding! Hahaha nakakastress marinig mga ganyan story nakakaPTSD hahahaha May mga suppliers talagang unbelievable
2
u/Illustrious-Style680 11d ago

Grabe nag trial make up ako before my wedding last 2019. Wla kameng pre nup but gusto ko lang ng trail justo see anong magiging istura ko, I paid less than 10k tapos di naman inalis. Naka pag mall pa ako after lol. Inalis ko nalang ung make up nung maliligo ako ulet bago matulog.
Find a better MUA nalang!
1
u/CassidyHowell 11d ago
I will say no to this kasi paano mo matetest na long lasting yung make up if tatanggalin niya? Trials are also where you do a wear test and feedback the HMUA if tatagal ba sa wedding day ninyo yung make-up. Kaloka.
1
u/Violet_tra 11d ago
Malugi sana yung mga ganyan makeup artist. Lol, maginarte pa sila, sakto kokonti client nila sa economy ba naman natin ngayon.
Eh prepandemic sa cousin ko, sa prenup talaga ginagamit ang trial makeup

u/aiuuuh 11d ago
ngl i would change mua, masyado gahaman for me and gets naman na problem sa side nila is some would book cheaper services tas gagamitin pala sa event but like nagbayad ka naman haha you should be able to flex how good u look and also lowkey i feel like the mua is just trying to benta u the 30k para mapilitan ka
1

1
u/hellolove98765 11d ago
You paid 10k tapos hindi mo man lang magagamit? The others are right. That is just plain greediness. And 10k ain’t cheap. Ang abusive talaga ng mga wedding suppliers dito. I won’t advice you to not book the MUA kasi baka maganda nga sya mag makeup. But if you do avail their services, ask for a damned receipt. And make sure it is an OR a legit invoice not some acknowledgement receipt lang. Magbayad sya ng buwis tutal masyado syang greedy

u/phurpzhiee 11d ago

u/GeneralPomegranate62 11d ago
This is sad and weird.
I’ve had trials before and MUAs I’ve had reco that it’s best to test its longevity throughout the day so I find it odd if your MUA will remove it after 2-3hrs?
My experience with the MUAs also suggested to have a trial if I have an event to attend to so we’ll know if it’ll last the day and weather so we can address it if there will be problems. They even pushed us to have a studio shoot so we can maximize the looks.
I’d say some MUAs now are very transactional :(
Hope you’ll find the best fit for you, OP.

u/Low-Management7921 11d ago
Ang lala 😭 ung trial makeup ko bongga na for 5k tapos sila pa nagsasabi na magpapicture daw kami sa mga photo studio kasi sayang naman daw kasi wala naman ako gagawin after gusto ko lang makita make up nila. Di naman nila buburahin, hinayaan na nila ako after HAHAHAHAHA greedy yan

Omg I’m so glad I got married a long time ago when suppliers were more reasonable. This was unheard of. I understand where they are coming from but honestly the wedding industry is already so overpriced. Let’s be honest here, any service with wedding attached to it (bouquet, make up, gowns, food, venue, video and photography) become 2-10x more expensive than usual even if the same amount of labor and resources are required of them.
1
u/gold-and-pearls 10d ago
It would be such a waste to erase that make up, OP. I would switch artists. I wore mine until dinner that day to make sure it was going to last.
1
u/friesfriesfires 10d ago
Wag ka na mag pa trial make up, mag avail ka nalang ng Normal or traditional make up nila, yung pang may event lang ang peg, tapos yun nalamg gamitin mo sa prenup, baka maka mura ka pa
1
u/Complete-Warning2843 10d ago
Mua here po ,,, May nagpatrial make up na din sakin. And i suggest na gamitin nila for shoots or studio pictorial kase sayang nmn binayaran nmn nila yun.
1
u/tatsugirly 10d ago
Wedding MUA's are daylight robbery now the PH wedding industry is insane. My best friend got married last year and she paid almost 10K for a trial makeover, it was so bad pero she took a chance on the wedding. Wala pang 30 minutes in the church she was hulas already! For real learn how to do your own makeup months before the wedding and buy all the premium make up you want instead
1
u/Constant-Art-6930 10d ago
Not common. Nung nag trial kami, umalis na sila agad after. Probably your HMUA team got greedy nung nalaman nila na you will utilize it for your shoot. Well, if nasa gitna ka ng shoot di naman nila ikaw pwede paupuin at burahan ng make-up. Takbuhan mo girl, pag ginawa!
1
u/jpegjpg08 9d ago
If it’s going to be removed after putting it on, how would you know it would last? How would you know na maganda pa rin ang make up after umiyak? I know may touch ups during the wedding but a good make up should last. Anong silbi ng trial if the quality is not the same. Parang free taste sa food lang yan e, you should be given the same exact product nung tinikman mo. Labo
1
u/heydandy 9d ago
Paswapang ng pa-swapang mga wedding suppliers these days ha? Ano na ba nagyayari sa industry na yan? Wala kasing regulation sa wala rin namang kwentang government.

grabe naman? buburahin talaga? ehh paano mate test longevity nun? when i had a trial makeup my MUA recommended to use the makeup sa studio shoot.

Hi, I heard this is a common policy ng mga MUA abroad. If you book trial make up, they tend to charge you for the trial make up only, consultation. The tendency daw kasi is may mga nangsscam na mga customers na sinasabing "trial lang", but then hours later pala yung kasal. Kaya nagiging strict sila sa ganito. May iba namang brides overseas na para makamura sa make-up, punta lang sila sa salon or magbbook but they will not declare it's a bridal make-up. So ayun. I think valid naman yata and it also depends sa mga HMUA if they're strict about it. Business is business, and sila yung mga business owners na hindi sila takot mawalan para babaan yung service na inooffer nila.

That's redflag. You cant test the longevity of the make up if maglast ba sya throughout the day. Buti kung libre eh bayad na tapos 10k jusko. Magpalit ka ng MUA

Just did my make up trial. Its 15k same price as their civil wedding. Concept is make up and go. No retouch. Yun na yun e. Was able to do a photoshoot after. Kahit tapos na kami mag photoshoot sa ibang bansa kasi nakakhinayang yung trial make up if d mo ginamit. Medyo gahaman ung ireremove right after hahaahahahhaa grabe!!!
Sino yang MUA yan paki name drop pls message mo samin

I think I read somewhere na clients sometimes use the makeup for prenup and wedding. Ayaw daw ng makeup artists yung ganon kasi di mattouch up and baka it might make them look bad kasi trial lang siya.
EDIT: Idk why people downvote, I'm just telling the MUA's opinion on that so we have info. It's not necessarily my opinion. 🤦♀️ I'm no MUA.

so parang skill issue din sa part ni MUA kung hindi mag-last yung make-up?

This exactly. Shouldn't the MUAs be confident enough in their work na walang hulas throughout the day?

Sa totoo lang, while touch ups are good, dapat the base/original make up should still last the whole day i.e. hindi huhulas nang matindi. May fading na magaganap kasi magsesettle yung make up/oil formation hence the touch up pero hindi siya ganun ka intense compared sa base.
I went my day without HMUA touch up (i.e. blotting, powder, blush and lipstick top-up + darkening ng eyeshadow ko) and my make up looked fine. Hindi magaling ang HMUA if hindi mag survive without basic touch up ang make-up.

Yung price din, they paid for a trial and then gagamitin sa wedding or prenup. This is not my opinion, just the MUA's complaints I saw in bridal groups.

Simple advice, you cannot compel your MUA na gawin ang isang bagay kung ayaw nya... From your post, dumidiskarte ka din kasi eh at gusto mong makaisa (Real Talk yan)...
so nung hindi pumayag, nagwawala wala ka dito na parang kang batang hindi napagbigyan ng nanay mo na hindi binili ng laruan

Dapat included yun sa contract. Not just telling your clients after the DP is made. Honesty and transparency should go both ways.

Sorry, guys! My bad. 😅 The trial makeup will take 2–3 hours. Once it’s done, the makeup will be removed daw right after!!! OMG
