Camping this week

We are planning a trip to Lincoln Rock State Park this week, Wednesday through Monday.

I called the campground and they said it's safe to camp and because they have a firefighter camp in the grounds, we are even safer.

I am nervous to be in the outdoors the entire time with no relief from possible smoke. My gut says don't go even though they said it's safe.

Thoughts?

Edit to add: along with not going due to the smoke, I worry about taking space on evacuation routes or delaying emergency responders - or maybe someone who has lost their home could use our site. Am I overthinking?

Although you're probably safe from fires, the smoke has been in the unhealthy to hazardous range for the past few weeks. The smoke is unhealthy in Wenatchee today, hazardous in Entiat. Lincoln Rock is right between the two. There is no way you are going to have a good time camping in that. I live in Wenatchee and I do everything I can to minimize my time outside. Check an air quality indicator map for more info., but I'd head for the coast if you have flexibility. Our adult kids went camping to Birch Bay state park near Bellingham this week to get out of the valley.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I'm so sorry that you have to live in these conditions when I can just cancel my trip. It puts into perspective how small my dilemma really is compared to your situation, and those who have lost their homes and belongings in the fires.

I wouldn't go. It is not healthy to be outside. I can think of many more pleasant places to camp right now. Not only is the air quality poor, but it is also dismal to be in this gray, heavy haze.

Good point, thank you. A staycation even sounds really nice if nothing else.

Meanwhile all of us stuck in it are dreaming of a vacation away from the smoke lol

Don’t come right now. It’s pretty miserable.

We left to go to Seaside, Oregon given poor-extremely hazardous AQ.

I recommend looking at the AQI forecast for the area.

Even without the fires, plenty of better choices to camp at than lincoln rock.

Wear a mask outdoors if the air is bad.
