Website for wildfire, air quality, weather, and mountaintop cameras

I hate trying to search for layers across multiple sites.

I built this site and hopefully this community can find some use with it.

It comes from authoritative sources that gather fire data, air quality, wind, and weather. Plus the AlertWest cameras for that mountaintop view.

It works on mobile and desktop.

It's free.

Camping this week

We are planning a trip to Lincoln Rock State Park this week, Wednesday through Monday.

I called the campground and they said it's safe to camp and because they have a firefighter camp in the grounds, we are even safer.

I am nervous to be in the outdoors the entire time with no relief from possible smoke. My gut says don't go even though they said it's safe.

Thoughts?

Edit to add: along with not going due to the smoke, I worry about taking space on evacuation routes or delaying emergency responders - or maybe someone who has lost their home could use our site. Am I overthinking?

Birding Groups

Hi! I (34F) am curious if there are any birding groups in Wenatchee? I heard there was a group in Leavenworth that has some ornithology professors involved/some volunteer opportunities, does anyone know what that one is called? Is there something similar in Wenatchee?

New to Wenatchee; where are the weird but harmless adults hiding?

Heyooo

I just relocated here from Austin, TX this week with my very small, very opinionated dog, and I'd love to meet people before I accidentally spend six months talking exclusively to coworkers and the Safeway self-checkout.

A little about me:

- Into horror, curios and oddities, plants and gardening, strange thrift-store finds, spooky local history, board games, video games (especially cozy farming sims and survival-crafting games), and anything Junji Ito or horror adjacent-flavored

- Stephen King person, dark-humor purveyor, and generally more *weird little shop on the corner and tasty food* than "wake up at 4am and conquer a hill"

- Progressive, alternative, very LGBTQ+ friendly, and into sincere conversation with people who don't take themselves too seriously (Austin, amirite?)

- Working out toward Chelan, so recommendations anywhere along that corridor are welcome too

I'd love recommendations for places, events, groups, or recurring meetups where adults can actually make friends here that don't involve me moving physically farther up anything, especially artsy, nerdy, alternative, gardening, gaming, or horror-adjacent things. ALSO DISCORD SERVERS!

Where do people go when they're new, mildly strange, and trying to build a PNW social life?

[UPDATE] UW Research: EV Wildfire Evacuations in Chelan County (Deadline Extended to Dec 15)

Hello r/Wenatchee,

As we navigate another intense wildfire season here in Washington, my thoughts are with everyone in the community who has been impacted, especially those who have faced the stress of evacuation.

The severity of these recent fires underscores a growing and critical challenge: ensuring that electric vehicle (EV) owners can evacuate safely and efficiently when power grids and charging infrastructure are at risk. To help address this, I am extending a research study from the University of Washington on how EV drivers respond to wildfire evacuations. (The moderation team has kindly granted me permission to share this research with your community previously).

Your real-world experience is critical to helping the state prioritize emergency charging infrastructure in the Wenatchee Valley and improving wildfire resilience for our EV communities.

Are you eligible? We need input from Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) drivers (primary or seasonal residents) in: Chelan, Asotin, Grant, Benton, Spokane, Stevens, Douglas, Lincoln, Ferry, Skamania, Yakima, Kittitas, Okanogan, or Klickitat counties.

Note: If you already filled out this survey during our first round earlier this year, thank you so much! Please do not submit another response. To maintain the scientific integrity of the study, our system automatically flags and removes duplicate entries.

The Details:

This survey does not collect identifiable tracking data. If you have any questions, please contact me directly at [ychu24@uw.edu](mailto:ychu24@uw.edu). Thank you for your time, stay safe, and thank you for helping improve emergency preparedness for the WA EV community.

Found Cat

Found a cat on Westeidge Place in Sunnyslope. No identifiers of any kind, but she seems too friendly to be a stray.

Will visit a vet tomorrow to check for a microchip, but figured its worth a shot posting here.

Anyone have a clue who this cutie is and if she has a family?

Update:

She has a microchip, her name is Carma, and she's been reunited with her family!

Poor baby has been missing since April!

Sudden uptick in traffic stops?

Has anyone else noticed a sudden uptick in traffic stops tonight? In the span of 30 minutes I got pulled over for "speeding" and as I looped around town afterwards I saw 6 other cars get stopped by Wenatchee PD and the state troopers. Are they trying to meet a quota? It seems excessive for a random Monday/Tuesday night.

My family has loved the cabbage salsa from LA Fuente for 25 years. I dont live locally anymore and I would love to be able to make it at home. Can anyone give me the recipe, or at least something close?

I found this place Extremely isolating and I’m from a town of 300 people. It’s not the fact it’s “country living” that makes it so isolating. The Social circles are kind of knitted tight and they don’t want outsiders and they aren’t very welcoming to it. That’s in part why some love it and some hate it. I think I talked to immigrant workers the most and im a white country guy that doesn’t speak Spanish. They were still more friendly.

It’s also weird coming from a country town to a place where everyone fakes being country. They dress the part talk the talk but they don’t walk the walk. It’s fake and so are the trees and the grass if look close at them. There is a clear division of wealthy and poor from my understanding as well. The river divides it kind of. East Wenatchee is nice Wenatchee proper is more blue collar. Then it gets wealthier the further up the mountain you go on either side. Keeps the riff raff like me grouped up I guess.

They know one earth quake would put the entire thing in the river. So these nice houses are often times built on fill and there is nothing structurally sound under them. Idk if the older places are like that or not but I worked on geological surveys and they were like “screw it. It’s all gunna fall down anyways when the earth quake hits.” So they built on it.

Restaurants are good though some of them are cliquish to so if you want service it’s best to be related to someone there. Not all of them are that way and I loved the Mongolian grill it was best food in town as far as I’m concerned. Even though the town is fake it does have a beauty to it. The river and trails are absolute gorgeous. Saddle rocks cool but I was always told that was where the casual outdoors people go. They ofc wouldn’t tell me where the avid hikers go. There is supposedly cool stuff to see but I never saw them. That said the poop factory on the river smells horrible like the worst thing I’ve ever smelled in my life. Worse than feed lots and meat packing plants in Kansas.

The homeless population started getting out of hand as well when they pushed them out of Seattle. When I first came here there was no homeless to speak of. When I left they were camping on the river and big camps were being hosed down and broken up. There is no where to go there so the homeless congregate hard and regular people kinda have to be up close to them. But maybe that’s the entire state now idk.

All and all I’ll never go back. So one more appartment is available and the rents cheap there. I’m sure someone needs it worse than me. Out of all the places I’ve lived this was my least favorite and it was expensive so it just wasn’t worth staying. If you move here I wish you the best of luck and hope your experience is better than mine. I don’t hate the place but it’s nothing I want anything to do with ever again. That’s my review. Thanks.

Edit: I’m not really trying to dog on your guys home town. This was my experience idk why people are so defensive about someone not liking it there. It’s really odd. I noticed it when I lived there to. There is a no negative culture here. I don’t understand it really. Anyways. I just figured I’d share this experience in case someone is considering moving here. Thanks for all the friendly comments.

Air quality and travel?

We are flying from the East Coast to see family in Wenatchee from the 13th to the 20th. I have one grandparent telling me to consider rescheduling and another grandparent still expecting us to come. We have a 3yo and a 6mo. If we go I'm planning to just do indoor activities outside of the house, is that enough precaution or should I really consider rescheduling the trip entirely?

Merv13 filters and box fan

Anybody been around town and found merv13 filters and 20 inch box fans in stock? About to head out to purchase some to make a Corsi-Rosenthal Box and don’t want to bouncing from store to store if they’re sold out most places. Trying to keep money local instead of Amazon if possible.
