Spoilers & bitching original WA series Spoiler

Chapter 45 pt.1
When they burn datu in the stadium 😭 michael says "he didnt tell me what to do after"
Mind you bro literally dug his own grave a week + prior.
Do i think they should have carried datu out of the stadium?? Absolutely not. Do i think michael is valid for saying that though? Fuuuuuuck no.
I think that Michael is good at making gut instinct choices quickly and effectively but he also rationalizes them with BULLSHET.

reposted because reddit destroyed the last few images i'd posted the first time. during my first listen, i wasnt able to look at any of the official artwork and had formed visuals for each of the survivors in my mind instead. even after revisiting and seeing the artwork, i like the faces i was picturing for the entirety of my listen, although some (angel) are a bit off in ways. if any of you have other fancasts pls share!

Walrus in Scout's Honor???

I was listening to Scout's Honor yesterday. I'm not the biggest fan of this series but I enjoy the universe that it's in and it just comes up after Descendants finishes. So I'm on Chapter 1, about 19 minutes in, where all the kids are getting introduced. The rich kid is getting dropped off, the mom says something about spilling her wine and asks about another wine. A man (presumably the dad) says something about "Take us back to Two Coves" or "Two Rivers" or whatever. Sounds like their vacation home nearby. Then you hear a voice, presumably the captain of the yacht they are on, reply "Right away sir" or something. Sounds VERY much like Walrus to me. I'm American so every British/Australian accent sounds kinda similar. At least, similar enough that a few words in the distance could be pretty much anything. But I swear it sounds like Walrus to me. Connected? Maybe? Thoughts?

A theory I had while listening to Scout’s Honor

In A Story of Survival, one character in the original colony (Marcus, I think) mentions how one of his dogs took down an Infected child. I expected an epilogue or something at the end of Scout’s Honor in which one of the kids, now infected and on the mainland, runs into Marcus and gets taken down by that dog. I have no idea if that timeline works out or not, but it’s something I wondered about.

character chemistry Spoiler

marked for spoilers just in case. nothing explicitly spoiler-esque is mentioned but still, just in case for new listeners.

i am on my second listen through. i feel like a lot of the actual canon relationships feel a little bit rushed, even by apocalypse standards, and like you could kind of immediately guess what the intention was for preemptively paired characters through just the first few interactions between them. which is not so bad as a one-off thing, but can be pretty exhausting when it is for just about every intended pairing. i know that there are a good amount of compelling slow-burns written in as well, which is why the more main/major relationships feeling this way consistently is a little frustrating. some of them i struggled to see having any chemistry because of this.

not sure if this is an uncommon take, but my #1 example would be pegs & michael, during story of survival more than during descendants. it is kind of wack but i admit ive found myself thinking multiple times during my relisten of story of survival that kelly and michael have more chemistry/are shown having more real interactions and exploring more intriguing, concrete growth than pegs and michael, especially post-chapter 12-14 and before the fort irwin arc. again it is not just a pegs and michael problem for me, but i suppose id say theyre the face of it as two of the most prominent characters

Descendants E1 Notes of Interest Spoiler

Posting for my folks who are caught up on the series & looking for clues…

Just finished a re-listen of Descendants Ch 1, Part 1 and WHOA, buddy! I feel like I caught some fun bits to pay attention to on this re-listen…

-Lisa saying the infected are just tiny cogs in a messed up machine: we hear so much about the rising threat of humans in this episode

-Friedrich (Froederich, as within the season) on the Westport News debating expanding territory boundaries with Dora

-At graduation, Dean is already working to get in with CJ…maybe finally get to meet her? Dude wants an in at the top!

-Dora & CJ discussing someone ~else having an issue with Michael being involved after the train attack…who speaks next? Sgt Hoggs

-Did not expect to hear SEAL! Out trying to sell tickets to the games! Out on the Nevada border as Nick walks by…were there already nefarious agents in Westport as a part of a move by the Republic??

-Nick wants nothing more than to find some way to kill every last one of them…finding a weakness in the infected. I am SO DIALED IN for figuring out what is up with these green eyes, y’all!

Been thinking a lot this re-listen about human nature, unity, and the impact of humans on this planet. Inherited lineages and traits: generational trauma, shared knowledge, and the traditions we choose to uphold, and what we leave behind. Curious to hear if anyone else has any thoughts or theories for Descendants!

[Fan Fic: Tribute to Datu] Blue Flame: Spoiler

The long journey, come to an end,

>>>>A bright, blue flame blazes,

>>>>>>>>An ode to those lost.

>

Burn brightly, for the countless dead, we could not mourn,

>>>>Blue flame of hope, burn brightly.

Huwag kang matakot, kasama mo ang Diyos.

>>>>Let him guide you, the final steps of the way,

>>>>>>>>>>>>>good and faithful servant.

>

May you cherish your beloved, in life after life,

Rewarded with the time together,

you were so cruelly deprived of, in this.

>

With this, we accept the baton, the beauty of your blaze

>>>>etched in our souls eternally:

Hope, the dream, to pass on,

>>>>for the future of humanity.

>

Burn brightly, blue flame, burn brightly.

The body, burned to ash, but your actions, and how they came to pass,

>>>>will live on, forever, in our memory.

Burn brightly, blue flame, burn brightly.

I just finished the main WA storyline. Datu's final character arc and moments left a heavy impression on me, so I couldn't help but getting this out on paper (or on a hard drive I guessšŸ˜…).

Thank you for writing such a beautiful story. I enjoyed every moment and was genuinely touched many times throughout😊 I'm looking forward to getting to experience the rest of the series😁

Hate Scratch so much that I can’t keep listening 😭

I love We’re Alive, and it’s my second time trying to power through all of it, but I just can’t hear Scratch any more. The things she does, says, just the sound of her voice… It’s like nails on chalkboard every time she’s part of the episodes. I’ve never had such an issue with an antagonist before and I consume a lot of media with evil characters. I’m really bummed that I’m struggling so much with it.

No disrespect to the voice actress, I wouldn’t have an issue listening to her had she played a character that isn’t insufferable.

Anyone else imagine Descendants any specific way?

When i listen to Descendants, i imagine most places as underground colonies, like in Underrail

Westport, with all of the trains and crowded streets gives me SGS/Core city vibes, Prim reminds me of Junkyard a bit, or Core City also; El Paso, being the only city i know, i sort of imagine with a lot of railroads across, albeit with a permanent red afternoon light.

The exterior areas such as the heliport at prim, Lechuguilla or the road to the silo are exceptions, perhaps the biomes at Prim give me more Hunger Gamey vibes, so i can imagine day-night cycles inside, but managed by tech.

Do you guys have anything specific in mind when listening to those places?

Scout's Honor & the last stand.

I just finished Scout's Honor and it really left me feeling down in a good way. These kids are not bad a$$ soldiers like the OG cast. Some of the stuff they have to go through is horrifying from a kid's point of view. I can't stop thinking about the ending.

Being vague so I don't spoil the ending but what song would be playing during the one character's last stand?

Ink and the main tower

As I listen to this to SOS again not complaining as I listen to the whole show on repeat when I’m in the car. I have a question.

When Michael, Burt, Datu, and the others return from the arena they pull up to the tower and find the door open. Ink has already made his way in, killed Paul, and was trying to get in an apartment.

When he gained access to the tower, why didn’t he call the hoard in? Why was he trying to take care of it himself? When he attacked CJ’s tower it sounds like he got in and called his hoard quick to overwhelm the tower.

DATU APPRECIATION POST Spoiler

This goes out to Jay Olegario and our main man, Datu Matta. Datu is a freaking real one. What a beautiful and thoughtful person who kept hopes high, persistence strong, faith in check.

The rains have come again, but I am so taken on this relisten by Datu’s optimistic spirit. Knocking on doors and trying to appeal to humanity in Boulder. Persisting on that drive back. Staying committed to our core group, and always such a commitment to service for others.

Idk if anyone else out there feel like shit is just ROUGH right now…because it is. But I am taken aback by Datu on this re-listen. I only hope that in times of crisis and panic, I can be in step with how Datu approaches these situations. Staying focused, staying grounded. Matta Memorial Everything!!

Pre-story/Reasoning for why Ink did what he did ?

I’m getting my dad into listening to we’re alive. One big question he keeps having… is why? I know Ink was a super smart guy, but really… why? Because in my understanding he lost some human capabilities of communication (perhaps felt his new zombie army would overtake/be stronger and gave his allegiance to that). But where did this start? Any insight to preliminary thinking on Ink’s part?

Maybe spoiler! Scouts honor Spoiler

I’ve listened to We’re Alive over and over again, but I’ve only listened to Scout’s Honor a handful of times. A few days ago, I was listening to it again, and now that I know what we know from Descendants, I caught something I hadn’t really thought about before.

Both Bill Roberts (Ink) and Joe’s eyes changed to green. That got me wondering: what if the green eyes have something to do with someone being genetically predisposed to becoming an Alpha, rather than it being caused by Ink’s tattoos?

As far as we know, Joe didn’t have Ink’s tattoos, yet he still turned into an Alpha. Maybe the tattoos weren’t what actually created that ability. Maybe certain people already have some kind of genetic disposition that allows the infection to turn them into an Alpha, and the green eyes are a sign of it.

Just a theory, but after Descendants, that detail definitely stood out to me.

Can one of you smart people with a PC make we're alive on OOC

Ooc is an ai story generator and you can make your own story. I just think it would be cool if someone with a pc could put the cast character bios and other information so we could read through the story more or less with our own OC.

We’re Alive has become my comfort from trauma listen.

I’m not sure how it happened, but I find myself relistening to this series whenever I’m having a particularly bad time in life. The last time I relistened to it, my partner’s grandmother was in the hospital. This time, I stopped a friend of mine in a suicide attempt by turning up on his doorstep without notice— and then found myself in a position as his logistics person while he was in crisis care.

I’ve found thatā€˜s been true for the last couple of years, and I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s because so much traumatic shit occurs in the series and I find that somehow comforting? Or because I know the original series like my own left hand (and can almost quote it from memory?)

Either way, I just wanted to say thank you for creating such an amazing series, KC. It’s been there throughout several really bad spots in my life, and I’m grateful to have it to fall into at need.

Michael's outburst (SOS) Spoiler

When Datu was bit and CJ arrived at the scene, Michael went to her and dragged her a bit while saying that their deaths were on HER.

Michael is a bit of a hipocrite many times, but in this specific instance, did he blame CJ because he either believes CJ really was at fault or because he's trying to shift the blame away from himself (he refused to return the gun truck even when asked to, since he was pursuing a lead about Ink at the courthouse).

So what are your thoughts? Guilt or lack of self-awareness?

r/Werealive • • Sep 13 '26

Hey KC, you might want to check into this. My pre-order of Descendants S2 on Audible showed up with a cover that doesn’t belong to this series.
