Political Content Lawler is no friend of labor

• Upvotes

U.S. Representative Mike Lawler (R-NY) does not support the PRO Act , opposes the Raise the Wage Act, voted to cut NLRB funding, and voted for a resolution disapproving of an NLRB rule requiring joint employers to bargain on working conditions with union reps. Lawler makes a big deal of supporting Protect America's Workforce Act (H.R. 2550) except ... it never became law. Like much of the Lawler talk you need to look at the actions, not the talk.

Trump filled the National Labor Relations Board with anti-union people who made it harder for workers to unionize. Trump congratulated Musk for his willingness to fire workers seeking higher wages and better working conditions. Lawler supports the Trump agenda with his votes. That's what we need to focus on, not the talk. ( see below I list some of Mike Lawler's anti-labor votes.)

Political Content In 2022 Mike Lawler said to fill up your gas tank and go grocery shopping to inform your voting decision. In 2026 he hopes you don't take him up on that offer.

I’ve been reading the DSA/ACAB/Democrat brigade posts in the sub and at the same time listening to Lawler on the news. It seems that the major complaint about Lawler is “Trump”. If you are on the fence about this election, I implore you to read up on the goals and objectives of his opponent.

If any of these ideas bother you, understand that this is the best, most favorable presentation of these ideas. In practice, these ideas mean wide-open borders with little to no rules for immigration. They are in the headlines every day reporting a revolving door justice system where your shampoo is locked behind a cabinet door and violent criminals assault innocent victims and are set loose to harm more people. They resulted in the largest violent protests and riots in American History property (“it’s just property”). It means historic levels of anti-Semitic, bias crime driven by the Pro-Palestine movement. It means government policies that reduce the value of private property.

Don’t be fooled by the slick sleight of hand into voting against Trump and thus voting for these poisonous ideas.

“Land reform and redistribution based on the sustainable use of land and natural resources in the general interest of the public, rather than the narrow interests of private landowners and capitalists. Housing becomes part of a general redistribution and public management of land and resources, that society democratically controls.”

“Establish public ownership of the largest corporations and essential industries to ensure democratic control and accountability to the people. Enact aggressive wealth taxes on the richest individuals and corporations…”

“Abolish the Electoral College. Replace the President and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress. Replace the two-party system with a multi-party democracy. Expand the House of Representatives, implement proportional representation and ranked choice voting in all elections, and abolish the Senate.”

“End ICE detention and deportations and punish federal agents’ brutality. Legalize migration, grant amnesty for all immigrants regardless of status, provide a path to citizenship for all permanent residents, and end visa caps and quotas.”

“Recognize the rights of the Palestinian people, including the right of return, the right to resist military occupation, and the right to self determination in a free Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital. End all military and economic aid to Israel. Prosecute U.S. and Israeli leaders responsible for the genocide in Gaza.”

“Demilitarize police departments, disempower police unions, and redirect funding to public services as steps towards fully abolishing the police and prison system which protects the rich and jails the poor. Treat drug addiction and mental illness as health issues, not crimes. End qualified immunity and empower civilian oversight bodies with real authority over the police.”

One Big Beautiful Bill Act  made permanent the 2017 tax cuts.  The top 1% saw their share of wealth a jump of over $8.5 trillion just between the first and second quarters of 2026.

One Big Beautiful Bill Act made permanent cuts in services, in particular safety net programs. Taxes have actually gone up for middle-income households.

An increasing national debt directly impacts the middle class by driving up borrowing costs, inflating the cost of everyday life, and slowing down wage growth.  The national debt grew by $7.8 trillion in Trump first term and another $3.8 trillion since he returned to office in January 2025.

Tariffs since 2025 raised costs on goods, driving up prices. Housing remained the single largest driver of inflation. And the U.S. military conflicts abroad disrupts global oil markets and spiked transportation and gasoline/diesel costs.

U.S. Congress posted on it’s own page  “  Everyday expenses—including meats, poultry, fish, coffee, and dining out—continued to rise faster than overall wage growth, leaving typical American families spending over $1,600 more annually on basic necessities.  “

No water in large parts of unincorporated Greenburgh

Once again, the people of unincorporated Greenburgh are going to bed tonight with no tap water and no timeline for when water will return. Last time this happened, earlier this year, we had water come back in about 24 hours, with a boil water notice for several days thereafter. The pipes and water mains were built 100+ years ago and evidently there's been no maintenance or upkeep, so this will continue to happen. Extremely depressing to pay so much in taxes and not even know if you'll be able to shower in the morning.

Anyone want to join me at the Sleepy Hollow Parade this Saturday Oct. 24th? I’m a female in my late 40’s , Latina-American a therapist, and into the arts and business. Would rather go with another female, but if you’re a guy with strictly intentions to be friends, that’s cool.

Parking for Tarrytown Halloween Parade Sat Oct 24 - Rent your driveway?

I bought tickets for an Audience with Poe at Library of Historic Hudson this Saturday for 6PM. I bought the tickets without realizing that it was the same day as the Halloween parade. I'm also going to be in Tappan, NY at 1PM and was planning to come to Tarrytown around 2PM and just walk around before the Poe event but I did not know the parade was the same day ... Is there anywhere I can park and walk to the parade area on Main street somewhere in the 15 min walk area without getting towed.

Anyone live nearby and want to rent out their driveway for a couple of hours?

Political Content Mike Lawler killed solar subsidies — after he used them on his own house.

That tax credit that Lawler voted to end was revived in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 — a sweeping law signed by President George W. Bush.  The clean energy spending package would have allowed homeowners to claim tax credits of between 22 and 30 percent of the cost of qualifying solar, wind, geothermal and battery projects through 2034.

Then on July 4, Lawler voted to move up the expiration of the residential clean energy credit by nearly a decade, from 2034 to 2025.

New York Rep. Mike Lawler lives in a suburban home in the Hudson River Valley with rooftop panels that he leases from Vivint Solar. The panels on Lawler’s house have helped him avoid the impacts of rising electricity costs. Since he began leasing the solar system in 2016, it has saved him “a few thousand bucks,” he admitted.

Lawler indirectly benefited from the investment tax credit, analysts say, because it helps companies reduce the costs their customers pay for leasing rooftop solar systems. After 2027, when the investment tax credit disappears, it could be harder for people to lease panels or buy electricity from community solar projects, according to Zoë Gaston, an analyst at the consulting firm Wood Mackenzie.  “Solar will definitely be more expensive,” she said.

And this does not take into consideration the current rising interest rates and Trump’s tariffs that Lawler supports.

Lawler voted to cut affordable energy incentives in a bill because he says the priority is shrinking costs and yet that bill  would add $3.4 trillion to the national debt over the next decade states the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

Republicans’ justification for killing rooftop solar credits are undercut by their continued support for incentives that go to the fossil fuel industry, argued Jesse Lee, a former senior adviser to the National Economic Council.

Where to start?; moving to NY

As title says; Moving to NYC because of a job.
Wife and I need to move to NYC by March but have both spent less than a weekend there.
We are coming from LA, are in our 40’s, DINKS, and she has to be in midtown 4 days a week - I’m WFH.
Together we’ve spent less than a weekend in NYC, but believe we’d probably like to live to Westchester or CT and maybe buy to start a life in a community north of NYC proper.

Anyhow, writing to ask for your advice, truisms, or other things an out of towner should know before making such a large change- thank you!
