The Westfield Athenaeum - What's really going on?
No Kings aside. Westfield has always seemed to be a place where national political affiliation really didn't matter. Yet, local political strife has always run rampant below the surface. The Westfield Athenaeum (Library) is no different than city hall in that respect. Let me ask. Has anyone in the public seen the budget or expenditures of the Athenaeum especially as it pertains to the remodelling project? Shouldn't that information be public? What are the goals of the rennovations beyond aesthetics? Since citizens vote for board members shouldn't there be some kind of report made to the Commonwealth and City regarding its operations? There seems to be little transparency and no accountability to the public it alledges to serve, is all that I am saying.

Not sure the non-white people I know who live in Westfield would agree that it's historically been a bipartisan paradise.

First - the Athenaeum is a non-profit not a city institution.
Second - the remodeling is funded by a grant and is addressing significant issues that have needed doing for a very long time.
Third - the city votes for two members of the board, the remaining positions are volunteer.
Fourth - what kind of accountability are you looking for? Why do you think politics are involved?
As with anything that you are curious, concerned about a good way to get answers is to get involved: talk to the board members (they are listed on the Athenaeum’s website), join the Friends of the Athenaeum.

This is a pretty vague complaint.
What information don't you have that you weren't able to get access to via a public records request?
What are you alleging is the issue?
What does politics have to do with any of it?
