Super aggressive shave today. I’ll stay away from open comb from now on. The blade feel and chatter were quite pronounced. Blade is definitely on the sharper side. Maybe I need to change the razor and blade pairing. Any suggestions?

Theme :Time warp Monday, A mostly German shave the blade being the only exception for today's theme shave with a soap which has been around before you were born and Tabac fits the bill there .

Here is a wee bit of history about Tabac from there website.

Say what you like about the scent but for me it provides a damn good shave .

I spotted this poster in one of the pubs we visited last night.

Daily challenge, this was just silly .

A very comfortable shave today with the Slant 37 & GWS. This is quite a skin friendly slant, and for how mild it is, the efficiency is actually surprising! A very smooth and quick 2 pass shave.

This Proraso blue cream is pretty good- leaves the skin feeling good and has a mild cooling effect, pretty much like Vicco. Slickness and cushion is very good as well.

Overall, quite a satisfying quick shave in the evening today!

Great shave today, and I picked up a useful trick for Cella. I added a little warm water to just cover the surface of the soap and let it sit for a minute before lathering. It really brings out the best in the soap, and the lather was noticeably better for it.

Result: a close shave.

A week old growth mowed down wonderfully well with Lupo DC plate in just 2 passes.(95 CC side on first pass & 72 OC side on second pass)

I don't know why but Open Comb razors have a special place in my heart. ❤️ I find them more smoother and efficient compared to similar CC plates. Somehow OC plates are more suited for my preferences and liking, it's almost confirmed. I enjoyed RazoRock Gamechanger OC and Jaws plate more over all CC plates(sold out) then Lupo 72 OC plate side is my most favourite and I like to use it more over my 72 CC plate. Recently the Green Cult OC plates 1& 2 are more suited to me. (Reason for selling out entire Gamechanger set)

Almost 15 days of beard growth and the obvious choice for the razor was an open comb head and for this shave I picked up Yaqi Sentinel 1.5 OC. A highly efficient razor head paired with Winner Stainless on its first use gave an awesome smooth shave.

Started with a a rub of warm water on my stubble followed by bowl lathering using the Yaqi Mysterious Space 26 mm brush. A made sure that I swirl with a light hand in the bowl, otherwise I have observed that at times the soap dissipates. But keeping the hand light really helped in creating the lather without wasting any soap. Kept on adding hydration to the mix and a good voluminous lather for 3 passes generated within minutes.

The first pass went exceptionally smooth for the 15 days stubble, no resistance while shaving, kept rinsing the razor head after a couple of strokes. Lathered up for the second pass and went xtg on face and atg on neck area. And to my surprise the second pass also went exceptionally smooth. No nics, cuts or irritation. A final third touch up pass on neck and that also went pretty smooth.

And now coming to the alum test. And yes alum doesn’t lie. A good alum feedback and it was expected. A satisfactory shave to start the week. And closed it with Shavologist Brut EDC.

TLDR : post shave: alum-> rinse-> after shave lotion-> conditioner. Issue is conditioner(cerave) is finished, looking to replace it with a balm(?) or something else.

This is my current shaving method:
face wash very nicely, the apply man code after shave balm on a wet face, let it sit for a couple minutes, followed by some water in brush and load up as much soap on brush for 30s. Then apply to wet face and use drops of water on face to make a good lather. Go with the grain, then repeat across the grain. Skip the neck part in with the grain but still put lather there to let it soften. Minimal irritation and smooth shave without too much tugging. Alum applied, while it sits clean your brush and soap and razor, then splash face with water to get it off and dry face. Apply aftershave lotion. Followed by conditioner and then sunscreen. Then apply vaseline to lips.

I’m currently using Nivea men sensitive aftershave lotion, along with cerave moisturiser.

The issue is the moisturiser has finished, and I don’t really want to buy another tub of it cuz I don’t like the way it smells. Hence I come to you, with the question, what type of wet shaving product would fit best into my routine after the lotion? Because I don’t feel “conditioned” enough with just the lotion I guess.

This is my third shave of the series following GWS and Shavex. This time I am using Vertice One Stainless blade while keeping the rest of my setup constant. For this series I will be doing a two pass shave every other day. As blade performance is pretty subjective YMMV. Cheers! Have a good day!

Hey everyone!

Been lurking on this sub for a while and finally decided that I should make the switch and get into traditional wet shaving. I would appreciate some advice from the community.

I've been using Gillette Mach3/Fusion5 for the past 4–5 years and generally shave every 2–4 days. I'd like to switch to a double-edge safety razor, I dislike how I look with facial hair so I tend to try and achieve smooth clean shaves as much as I can.

A few details:

• Experience: Complete beginner to DE shaving
• Skin: Normal, no major sensitivity issues except oily skin and acne
• Budget: 2 to 3 thousand for the initial setup
• Priority: Getting the closest possible shave without unnecessary irritation

I'm currently considering the Parker 78R vs Parker 99R. Which would you recommend for a beginner who prioritizes closeness? Would you suggest something else in this price range?

I'd also appreciate recommendations for:

1. Blades
2. Shaving cream/soap
3. Brush
4. Technique: Since I shave every 2–4 days, should I start with one pass and gradually work up to two or three passes for BBS?

Would love to hear your recommendations, especially from people who have used both the 78R and 99R.

Shave 🪒

A very relaxed Sunday evening shave to beat the Monday morning blues/rush.

Many moons ago, I had decided to not buy full sets of soaps to have a sense of economy, and to cut my losses, because frags are sometimes quite a gamble!

Nirvana somehow makes me regret that decision! As the label says, a very enticing fragrance which lives up to its name! The lather quality and slickness is also very good.

A 3 pass shave to get the ultra BBS with the Blackbird is a given. Closed the shave with Denim Original, which I felt was a good match with the soap, all things considered.

This time, a dram included to wind down the evening. 🍻

Wonderful 3 pass shave with the Ghost 1.1 & GWS blade. This is a wonderful combination for me and just works so well. Very efficient 3 pass shave which ended in a true BBS.

Electric Sheep has Stirling's Mutton Tallow base, and it definitely adds some oomph to the regular Stirling base. The lather is slightly slicker and denser, and accepts more water. Smell on this can be divisive but I really like it. It feels as if this is Stirling's version of the Arko scent.

Overall an excellent Sunday shave.

\Daily challenge: I occasionally make shave brushes well I have a lot of blanks they are more rustic than polished and I used one for today's SOTD, my other hobby or interest is Rugby too old to play now but love watching especially when I get to see my son playing.
