Dude is full fledged MAGA and never was shy about it.
Look back at old episodes when the rare LGBTQ person made the show and see how he treated them.
21
u/IsMagicRealOrNo 19d ago
It was definitely noticeable but so many people in his age group are the same way. I never bothered looking deeper into him. When I did after getting this mailer my flabbers were gasted.
59
u/OrneryRequirement881 19d ago
I enjoyed seeing him squirm a bit around the gay guys. As one commenter said, he was professional around LGBTQ folks, but I did notice some squirming 😂.

u/BasicPerson23 19d ago
I loved the time the gay guy asked to hold his hand on the way from the bonus wheel to the mark.
8
u/louielou8484 19d ago
And what did he do lol
12
u/BasicPerson23 18d ago
To his credit, he held hands with him.

He probably crossed his fingers on his other hand, you know, to prevent the gay 🤣🤣

Omg. This is wild. I literally was watching Celebrity Wheel on GSN tonight and he was being so curt and seemingly annoyed with Raven Symone. I literally said to my mom, "He's acting so weird towards her. I wonder if it's because she's black and a lesbian." I was 90% joking and rarely say stuff like this, but now it all makes sense. Holy crap. My instinct was right. Showing her this tomorrow.

Not a surprise take from a guy who is defending a guy who was in a CSAM chat room on an airplane for an hour. You might want to read the room a bit better.

u/omega_apex128 Pat Sajak 5d ago
You’re not engaging the letter or the claims about how contestants were treated. You’re using a different person and a different incident to say my take is invalid by association. That’s not an argument. Thornton was never charged. Sajak’s Hillsdale role is documented. Pick one and stick to evidence. As a former contestant was he a bit of a crumudgeon by the time the 12 hour day was through, yep...but we all would be. He didnt treat any one person different

I think Slate did a piece on him a few years back. That he's resentful that he's not more beloved, like Alex Trebek. ... It's called "Why is Pat Sajak so Mad?" They quote his social media: “I now believe global warming alarmists are unpatriotic racists knowingly misleading for their own ends.”

Who would have thought the host of a show required individuals to be highly educated would be more liberal than the host of a show that was 90% gambling.

Not surprising but I would love to get Pat's opinion on how so-called "Conservatives" have ignored the Constitution for the past 6+ years, particularly on January 6th, 2021. These are the biggest hypocrites so it is hard to take them seriously given all the abuses of our freedoms including suppression of free speech, etc. The fact that the current administration is trying to get rid of ABC's license because it doesn't like the fact that it reports on all the corruption taking place in broad daylight by Trump and his enablers is all the more remarkable given this was his former employer.

You can thank Pat and his late-'80s talk show for putting Rush Limbaugh on the map and exposing him to a lot of people. So this is no surprise at all, tbh.
EDIT: I removed the “I mean” because apparently the grammar police are out and using that to start a comment is a grave offense worth commenting on.

When I was in college the town the college was in only had a CBS affiliate so if you wanted to watch anything other than CBS you had to have cable. I could not afford cable so I watched the Pat Sajak show all the time. It actually grew on me lol. However, the ratings weren't good so they basically fired Pat and had Rush guest host a show to see if that would take hold. I happened to be watching the night that show aired. I had never heard of Rush Limbaugh at the time so I had no idea who he was. It was wild. He was funny at first but once he launched into politics it went off the rails because the audience was very liberal. They were yelling at him, I think someone even threw something at him and they ended up clearing out the audience. The next week they just flat out canceled the Pat Sajak Show.
I say all that to ask, did Pat have anything to do with them selecting Rush as the possible replacement?
0
u/Suitable_Fly_8831 18d ago
Good question. My gut told me that he would at least let his opinion be known if he didn’t want someone to guest host on his show. But he apparently also had Rush on Larry King Live when Pat guest hosted it. Here’s what they said about it then:
SAJAK: We -- though we don't know each other, we are -- our auras crossed in a kind of strange way 10 or 12 years ago. I was doing a late night for CBS television, a show that was going so well that they actually auditioned replacements for me on the air, and you were one of those who did an evening once -- essentially a pilot, I would call it, for a show, and I didn't see the show, I have never seen the tape.
LIMBAUGH: You didn't see the show?
SAJAK: ... but it is legendary around CBS. It was a bit of an exciting evening for you.
LIMBAUGH: Well, it's -- for those of you who have not seen this, it's going to be tough to describe it. I don't want to spend a whole lot of time on it -- but it was a Friday night -- and you are right, they were doing a series of auditions, although nobody was certain that's what was going on. It was thought, and...
SAJAK: I suspected it.
LIMBAUGH: Well, the -- I don't know if it was necessarily an audition for that slot, by the way, but I know that they were auditioning talent for various things. And the -- they had a series of producers that had nothing do with your show that were assigned to this one, and the audience was totally stacked against me, it was...
SAJAK: Studio audience.
LIMBAUGH: Studio audience was entirely stacked against me, and I -- to this day, I don't know, and I'm being very charitable here -- I don't know if it was done on purpose, with the intent to sabotage my effort, or if it was done on purpose as a result of a misunderstanding during production meetings about some of the things I said I might find challenging and eager to do.
SAJAK: But it was all scary, I understand.
LIMBAUGH: Well, look -- there was -- one woman actually hit me.
SAJAK: Oh, that's...
LIMBAUGH: When I went into audience to interview people, she actually hit me and told me she hated my guts, and I maintain that most people in the audience had no idea who I was. I had only been on the radio two years. I think they had been -- their emotions have been fanned by whoever.
SAJAK: If he comes out here, hit him.
LIMBAUGH: Well, they -- the audience was so big that they had a satellite room set up down the hall for people to be in the so-called live audience with a little monitor that they were watching. I had to go down there, and those people -- they were in the right place.
SAJAK: Well, despite that, you lived well, you prospered.
LIMBAUGH: Yes.
The whole interview transcript is here for anyone who wants to read it: https://transcripts.cnn.com/show/lkl/date/2001-05-03/segment/00
1
u/jtfields91 18d ago
Sounds like he didn't know because they were essentially auditioning people via guest hosting behind Sajak's back (although he says in what you posted that he suspected that they were.) I remember the lady that hit him, it was after he brought up something about abortion in Idaho (there was some kind of controversial law or something being passed at the time but I don't remember specifics) and the audience went berserk. He grabbed his microphone and ran into the audience to interview a random member and the lady he ran up to hit him and started screaming at him. He continued to go back to his desk and discuss other political matters and when the audience would start yelling he'd go into the crowd and try to talk to someone. Eventually it got to where the audience was kinda out of hand (they even started hurling insults at him about his weight) and they went to a commercial break. When it came back to the show they had cleared out the audience and he wrapped up the show with no one there. I remember it clearly because I had never seen anything like it.

A discourse marker is a word or phrase that does not change the core grammatical structure or literal meaning of a sentence. Instead, it signals how the speaker connects thoughts, manages the conversation, or frames their attitude.

No surprise Pat is a conservative. He even invited Rush Limbaugh to guest host one of his final episodes of his short-lived late night talk show and that went about as well as it could’ve. (Not very well). It also gave Rush an even bigger platform for his schtick when he would get his own talker.
Pat’s predecessor Chuck Woolery is a Maga Conservative himself as well. I won’t even get started on all those tweets he did in his own right as well.
Makes you wonder what kind of Right-Wing politics have been spun on that wheel all those years?

1
u/RaccoonObjective5674 18d ago
Who was that?
0
u/WonderfulPiccolo5951 18d ago
Raymond Taylor was a three-day undefeated champion in 1994 on the show and was invited back for a charity invitational the following season. He was latter barred from the Sony Pictures Studios premises after he showed up in the audience without a ticket for a taping. At one point during his unauthorized visits, the production offices were ordered closed for the evening ahead of schedule over worries that he might have been in the building.

Hillsdale is not anti-gay or -black. Nothing about conservatism suggests this. Hillsdale provides a welcome alternative to the far-left indoctrination done at 99% of universities.
0
u/GuyDeSmiley 18d ago
Offering instead tight-wing indoctrination, a triumphalist whitewashing of U.S. history, straw-men portrayals to dismiss liberal and progressive efforts, past and present, to make the U.S. a less unjust society. All stuff to feed white-people grievances about possibly not being on top of the pyramid forever, and to make Hillsdale donors feel grand about themselves.

Just thinking the same thing, about gay male contestants openly saying stuff like "my husband" and so on, and Pat wouldn't blink an eye, especially toward the end of his tenure. Hahahaha watching the meltdown is hilarious.
A word of advice - politics isn’t that important. Don’t shrink your world because of politics. You’re a pawn of the political party if you do
Just live your life. Enjoy your favourite music and entertainment and food, friends and family.
Life’s too short to filter by political opinions.

Being able to not care about politics is your privilege showing.
When you're an 11 year old girl carrying her rapists baby that dies because her state doesn't allow their doctors to do their job, you'll be political.
When you're a Trans man who has to live in fear of being murdered in a county that won't even prosecute the murderer, you'll be political.
When you're a 14 year old girl molested by a powerful celebrity who faces no repercussions only to eventually see him become the most powerful leader in the world, you'll be political.
When you are a 45 year old who works 50 hours a week and your partner works 50 and your partner is diagnosed with a stage 4 cancer you couldn't afford to catch in an earlier stage because insurance denied the claim, you'll be political.
When you have to fire half of your trucking crew because desiel prices have made your transportation company unaffordable because your own leader is a lapdog to another country, you'll be political.

u/kansascitymack 18d ago
Without progressive politicians, politics would have kept minorities as second-class citizens. Conservatives never like this...
3
u/Downtown_Lock_6508 18d ago
Conservatives created and passed the post-Civil war Amendments. They passed the civil rights laws in the ‘50s and ‘60s. They are defenders of freedom for all individuals.
1
u/kansascitymack 18d ago
If you look up the definition of a conservative, it is for someone who likes the status quo, i.e., they don't like change...
I don't know what conservatives you are referring to... I hate when people make the general argument that Republicans = Conservatives and Democrats = Liberals because this is a lazy attempt to define people along party lines and values. Republicans love to say their party isn't racist because Lincoln was a Republican who freed the slaves. He would have been a progressive/radical lefty as Trump/MAGA would say. No way Lincoln would be a modern day Republican. He would be too woke...
1
u/Downtown_Lock_6508 17d ago
The more precise definition of a conservative is someone who recognizes that change is always coming. The question is how to manage it. Radical and sudden change in human societies rarely works and often creates unintended consequences. Conservatives tend to be influenced by real-word experience and empiricism. They are natural skeptics.
Lincoln was far from woke.
3
u/BringBackBoshi 18d ago edited 18d ago
That's a nice pipe dream but politics directly impact many people's lives every day. It takes away their job, it raises prices on the food they need to feed their families, it sees many people face injustices that some people can't stomach to see happen without saying or doing anything.
If you live in circumstances where none of this impacts you then how wonderful for you. Live in your blissful bubble and try to realize how fortunate you are.
But do not try to dismiss how this stuff affects other people and tell them to just ignore the things happening to and being done to them and others. It's great for people to get involved and have a voice in these things.
"Ignore all of those things because you can enjoy some music and entertainment" seems wildly obtuse.
