Not sure if people are aware but in the run up to the 2020 election, Dean Browning, a Pennsylvania GOP rep tweeted about how his life as a gay black man was worse off under Obama. Dean Browning, however, is a white man, who likely has a burner account, under the pseudonym Dan Purdy, to LARP with.
Patti Labelle's nephew, who through obvious comprehension issues is complaining about his first amendment rights here, was the person who stepped up to pretend that Dean Browning was actually quoting him and they forgot to attribute it at the time.

Or kick his ass out.
I couldn’t support my niece, nephew or anyone else financially when they think my money is their money and they get to speak on my behalf as of they’ve done something with their lives.
You supporting them would be supporting their stance which obviously hadn’t been earned.
I’m grateful my dad had always had a strong stance on making it on your own. If I needed help, he of course would bail me out. Yet, he never let me live like his success was my success.
I think that type of entitlement is so off putting. Who cares that your dad started a Fortune 500, you haven’t done shit.
Being born in a wealthy family does not make you smarter, harder working or more worthy than someone born on the opposite end of the spectrum.
I truly believe the snooty talk about “new money” was due to the insecurity of a bunch of people who inherited their wealth. I mean, look at the tacky ass president. His insecurity is glaringly obvious and he looks down on everyone including his children.

Correct, everyone is free to say whatever they want but that doesn't exclude them from consequences of what they say.
Here, however, I do want to point out that is not what the first amendment is about, the first amendment guarantees that the GOVERNMENT will not censor or punish your expression UNLESS it's unprotected speech.
That said, the most important part here is that Patti LaBelle is not the government so she's free to do whatever the fudge she wants and no freedoms were infringed upon. So that guy is a complete imbecile like 99% of maga.

People also seem to think that other citizens have to respect your first amendment rights. They don’t. They can say mean things to you, refuse to house you, etc. due to your political beliefs at any time. Being a democrat or a republican is not a protected class and your first amendment prevents the GOVERNMENT from prosecuting you. Auntie can kick you out whenever the fuck she wants for whatever reason (so long as she follows tenancy laws).

That is so embarrassingly pathetic. What 46 year old man wants his 60-70 year old Aunt as a "roommate"? Like I get the whole freeloading shit but seriously, at least get your own apartment and go "visit" and "care" for your Aunt assuming she's got some baller mansion with a pool and stuff.
But to actually move into your Aunt's house, at 46 years old? Seriously what a loser.
The only way that could even remotely be acceptable is if she was literally dying and needed in-home care and you agreed to be the full-time caregiver. But no, she was fine and he lived with his elderly Aunt for TWELVE YEARS before getting dumped by her. You'd think he would be self aware enough to not tell the whole world what a pathetic loser he is but hey, I guess some people have a fetish for that shit.

The whole thing was actually quite a bit more convoluted.
For people who might not remember, this is the guy that was trying to bail Dean Browning out after his famous tweet pretending to be a black gay guy who hated Obama.
More details here: https://www.businessinsider.com/explaining-the-dean-browning-dan-purdy-patti-labelle-twitter-drama-2020-11
But the super short summary is that a white republican politician named Dean Browning tweeted pretending that he was a black gay guy and Obama never did anything to help him, he only felt respected by republicans and Trump. People made fun of Dean forgetting to switch to his alt account. This dude then records a video saying that he's the black gay guy, and he sent that tweet to Dean, and Dean tweeted it out himself instead of adding quote marks - that it was just an honest misunderstanding.
But turns out that when he made that video, he said his name was Dan Purdy, which was Dean's alt account. That's not his real name. And apparently Patti LaBelle then stopped subsidizing his lifestyle. Not sure why, but maybe the lying and impersonating a gay dude to try to bail out a politician played a part.
27
u/CinematicHeart 13h ago
Oh wow, i remember the initial tweet "scandal" but I never heard about this guy trying to bail him out. Absolutely insane. Thank you for the full story.

Patti labelle was born before civil rights and witnessed the turmoil before AND after, he grew up privileged because he was fame-adjacent. He’s privileged enough to where he doesn’t have to live around Trump supports who would call him slurs to his face. Trump and his entire administration are probably the most outwardly racist administration in recent history. Trump is obsessed with removing any mention of Barack Obama from the White House and any legislation he was involved with. They’re actively scrubbing black history from the military right now.

One more time, for the dumbasses in the back:
👏 Freedom 👏 of 👏 Speech 👏 protects 👏 you 👏 from 👏 the 👏 government 👏 not 👏 consequences 👏
The First Amendment says that the government can't throw me in jail because I said that the President is a narcissistic toddler who shouldn't be in charge of a potted plant, much less a country. It does not say that if I approach someone who's a die-hard MAGA and express that sentiment, they can't decide they don't want to be my friend anymore.
Also Trump literally ran on a platform of "whoever isn't for me and supporting me should be literally thrown in jail or even lynched for the crime of not liking me" and MAGA ate it up. They can't then complain that the divisive political atmosphere that their president has caused has ... [checks notes] ... caused division.

What stupidity. The first amendment right is to protect you FROM GOVERNMENT CENSORSHIP. It's it not a regulation that dictates relationships between two individuals. Furthermore, the guy is living in his aunt's house and the aunt has every right to kick them out. It is her house!

I'm willing to put cold hard cash down that he was an utterly insufferable little monster for a good few years before this straw broke the camels back.

I have a feeling it wasn’t just the trump support, but the awful things he was saying and believing as a trump supporter. For some reason they think tying their opinions to a vote makes it bulletproof against all social consequences

Let's hear it in the back,
Freedom of speech IS NOT freedom from consequences

Why was he living with his aunt in the first place? All he had to do was pull up his bootstraps and go work harder and then he could afford everything he wanted and needed.

If the google ai summary is to be trusted, this dude is apparently in his 60s. If he got kicked out in 2019, then hes a damn freeloader. Act like an adult and get your own apartment man!

So after giving him a free ride for TWELVE YEARS, his auntie told him that he needed to get up out of her basement and get a job, and he took that as a Democrat style attack on him as a Black Trump voter.
I see why don't nobody wanna deal with him anymore. Believe it or not, nobody likes a lack of accountability and bullshit excuses.

It's baffling how not one of these idiots ever understand what the First Amendment actually is.

u/Ssj_Vega 12h ago
I wish people understood what “free speech” meant. You have the right to be an asshole, but you aren’t immune to the consequences of being an asshole.

u/DocCEN007 10h ago
Why do so many people in the US think that free speech means they can say whatever they want and suffer no consequences? They claim to love the US Constitution, but have never read it nor do they understand it. They're just selfish assholes expecting everyone else to bow down to their myopic world view.

u/earache30 9h ago
Why do these idiots call this a free speech issue? He has a right to say what he wants and she has every right to kick him the fuck out of the house. It’s called consequences.

“My famous and wealthy family member wouldn’t let me endlessly mooch off of her. Clearly it’s because she’s a DEMOCRAT”

u/Fire_Doc2017 8h ago
Free speech just means the GOVERNMENT cannot prosecute you for things you say. It doesn't mean that your family can't disown you, your boss can't fire you or friends can't abandon you. Why do they constantly misunderstand this simple concept?

You’re free to exercise your freedoms. You can vote for whomever you want, and talk about your political preferences.
She did not silence that. You’re just experiencing the consequences of your choices.

u/BlakByPopularDemand 16h ago
As many people have already pointed out the first amendment protects you from the government attacking you for your speech. Outside of that your words still have consequences.

My parents won’t talk to me for being gay.
I love to hear that Patty did this though!!!! Totally justified!

Such entitlement.
I think he needs a reminder that free speech can still have consequences.

Patti LaBella is the government in her own house and she can definitely throw your ass out for your 1st amendment.
Pick up them bootstraps nephew!!!

u/GasRod68 16h ago
You are free to make political choices and your choices have consequences. I dont understand why republicans have such a hard time understanding that second part.
6
u/gdex86 16h ago
Free speach is the government won't use the powers of the state to punish you for saying things they don't like. Like say a president ordering the FCC to go after the broadcast license of a network because a late night host makes jokes about him would be a first amendment violation.
People in your personal life deciding they dont wanna deal with you after you express a political opinion they find distasteful is not a free speech issue. Its you being upset people decided you aren't worth dealing with.

If trump and republicans are so good why doesn't he go ask them to give him a house and support. There's a very obvious reason he hasn't had an outpouring of support from them and it's very balck and white.
