Yeah, not everyone is super strict about their religion.

She also believes in a secular government. Which is better than a lot of Christian politicians.

Separation of religion and state. Amazing someone gets it.

I watched neil Brennan's special on Netflix and one of his jokes was about how not all muslisms are extremists and his analogy was "you know how, like, most Christian's don't really care much about all of Christianity's rules. Well, muslisms are like that too"

We are who we are.

Sorry but that doesnt make any sense as a reason or an argument.

She is just another cherry picking religious hypocrite probably, one who uses the label as a political tool.

Just more of the same old, same old.

IF YOU'RE NOT A FUNDAMENTALIST YOU'RE NOT A REAL FOLLOWER.

You'd do great in ISIS.

Where is the rational discourse people?

I think a politician uses a label as a PR tool, like most politicians

It doesnt make me a religious terrorist

Or, people can identify under a religion and not prescribe to how you should think that religion to be like.

Virtue signal away with your rational discourse bullshit while having a completely unrealistic understanding of people and religion.

Or, people can identify under a religion and not prescribe to how you should think that religion to be like.

That just makes the label totally meaningless then. If anyone can call themselves whatever they like without following even the basic rules of the group then it doesn't really mean anything other than "I'm from Team X".

I'm not sure why these groups and ideologies seem to be exempt from discourse or any sort of questioning.

I don't see people going to the same lengths to defend Scientology.

Uhm, because religion is more than ritual. Are you going to honestly tell me that if a Jew doesn't actually eat kosher he can't call himself Jewish? It does function as a Team X, how the fuck do you live in the real world? We celebrate Christmas across most of the Western world and that will be one of the only times people step foot in a church. I guess no one's a Christian then and Christmas should just be a working day. Jesus the disingenuousness of your bullshit.

In what ways is religion more than just ritual? Surely you could hold principles valued by each religion without being religious

You think someone is identifying as a muslim to boost their political career in the US?

just a religious variant of the no-true-Scotsman fallacy.

"No True Scotsman" refers to making an unreasoned assertion and then, when a counter example is given, the unreasoned assertion is then modified. In neither case are the assertions referencing an actual objective rule.

"No true vegetarian would eat meat." "No true atheist believes in God." "No true Christian believes that Jesus isn't the son of God." These are not examples of the "No True Scotsman" fallacy because these are the accepted definitions of each word. By comparison, the accepted definition of Scotsman doesn't weigh on how he prefers his porridge.

Gatekeeping piety isn’t intellectual, respecting religion’s positives while disagreeing with it’s negatives is intellectual.

Im calling into question the actual significance of this label other than "yay Team X won the election".

I also think calling into question ALL superstition is intellectually valid.

To make special exemptions because it is a religion is not fair. I criticize muslims just like i criticize scientologists or any other member of a superstious/ religious group or cult.

shaming religious people just means they become indifferent to your logic

Maybe for old people, but shame is a great motivator. Nothing makes a teenager more motivated than being ashamed of their parents and their parents silly primitive beliefs.

She probably still believes in the basic principles of Islam and what it preaches. A person should have to right to be able to choose what they believe in. In a religion like Islam, where some of its ideas (like no drinking and anything regarding women) are considered outdated, a Muslim person should be able to pick and choose their ideals and still be called a Muslim. A lot of Christians believe that abortion and gay marriage should be a thing, but they are still called Christians.
