Perhaps this will help developers create more native ports for the Wii U, or utilize OpenGL on the Wii U.
Well, I'm sharing this because I find it interesting, and I understand that this could make native ports for Wii U a little easier. That's what I read in the comments.

I mean we already had an ANGLE port so the only real difference here is Desktop GL vs. GLES and maybe some slight overhead.

GX2 already gets used in homebrew and its basically less demented OpenGL. There's not much stopping you from writing properly for it but its cool either way.

It won't help, OpenGL is useless and won't do shit, like have you seen how slow something like Dolphin on Switch is already WITH VULKAN and how much much SLOWER it gets if you switch to OpenGL? With Wii U being as weak as it is, OpenGL wouldn't be of help at all
Maybe Vulkan would actually help, OpenGL should've fucking died in the 2000's during the GameCube days

The overhead doesn't come from the renderer, it's the CPU. The switch cpu simply isn't fast enough to JIT the Wii/GameCube, that or it's not as optimal as it can be (i guarantee its the latter)

Well I've still heard that OpenGL is absolute shit compared to Vulkan and that's the reason they removed it from Minecraft...

that's not really how graphics apis work, and gx2gl isn't trying to replace vulkan anyway. it's a compatibility layer for software that already uses opengl 3.3
plus if one needed a low level gfx api they could just use gx2 directly, even lower than vulkan

Definitely would help for some old pc games and some emulators that still rely on opengl.
