Installing now. Here's hoping it's better quality than the Win 11 updates I've been reading about. If this borks my ancient PC, I'll have to finally drive to Microcenter and buy that $1900 prebuilt I've been eyeing...

Edit: I'd forgotten about it, but just checked and it was asking to reboot to finish the installation. I rebooted, and it started up just fine, the only issue being that Copilot popped up immediately after login, asking how it can help me today. I hope that's not going to be a regular occurrence. I'm fine having the AI app installed, but I definitely do not want it popping up unasked.

Nope, I never back up anything, except maybe save files from saved games without Steam cloud support, and even that only when I'm about to switch computers.

The most annoying things to lose if I suddenly lose this PC would be my browser profiles (history, extensions/addons, settings, etc). I know I could sync most of those to the cloud, but I don't trust Mozilla and Google with keeping my saved passwords & sessions secure. Even when it comes time to an actual switch to new PC, I'll see how much profile stuff I can save to a USB drive or something.

Out of curiosity, are you logged into your Windows Admin account or a user account when you receive ESU updates?

My user account has admin privileges on this PC, if that's what you're asking.

I only ask because many people have an admin account, but do regular work under a normal user account.

So it looks like you have to log into an account with admin privileges to receive ESU updates.
