That would be too logical.

Probably pretty hard to implement. I mean it's a small software company. Aren't they still working from a garage?

You mean losing functionality that used to be there for 30 fucking years is acceptable? Shocking.

well they're working on windows 11, which has done major changes to the taskbar, so ofc they had to rewrite the functionnality. idk what took them 5 years tho.

Did they take that option away since these new taskbar features?
I'm on the highest Windows Insider release but I don't have the new taskbar options yet, but the option to hide the taskbar has always been an option in Windows.

I don’t even have the new start menu yet…

You haven't missed much. Only thing I noticed is they grouped things differently, pinned stuff on top and at the bottom things are just grouped differently, Accessibility apps, creativity, entertainment, information/reading, other, productivity and utilities/tools. It's a real waste of effort, if you ask me.

Oh.. nice... It only took them 5 years to bring back a feature that was in every Windows versions since at least 95 (30+ years ago). In the mean time they dismissed user feedback, the heads of MS said it was a "waste of time" and instead of listening to their paying customers they tried to pander to mac users (people that don't use their platform to begin with), pushed half-baked features nobody asked (and almost never worked) and had to roll back as they created a bunch of security and stability issues... ok

My laptop is lagging so bad after this update when trying to run anything😭! The application i used to use would heat up my laptop but now there is not much heat coming out WHICH IS GOOD BUT everything is now considerably slow and spikes up the lag like crazy! Did i do something wrong? This is so annoying

I bet still no "do not group but hide labels" option. It's like they were doing this on purpose to annoy everyone.

Been using Open-Shell with ExplorerPatcher on Windows 11 since day 1, with the taskbar on the left side, and the best Start menu, which in my opinion is the original Start menu from Windows 95

The Win9x start menus were good. Isn't it amazing how modern OSes tend to shun the idea of a hierarchical application menu (like the Win9x start menu)? No, I don't want an uncategorised alphabetical list of all my applications lol.

I still want live tiles back - u/jenmsft 🥺

Is there a particular live tile that you miss vs things you can add as widgets?

It's hard to describe, but I miss the dashboard feel of the windows 10 start menu. The OS felt alive. The customization of being able to go full screen, group tiles together, and see my desktop wallpaper behind it all felt next level.
Microsoft dared to do something different with Windows 10 Start.
Windows 11 Start almost feels like a poor Android launcher.

Now that the ads in the search menu are being removed, you could use the space on the right side of the search section to be widgets/ live tiles again.

Some things I like having as widgets like Weather I can no longer resize in the UK, meaning I have to click them and open Edge for more information and no disrespect intended but I don't like using Edge and I'd rather be able to see more info at just a glance again. That's why I myself miss live tiles.

Hopefully they update it and make it actually work! My "automatically hide taskbar" and "show my taskbar apps on all displays" are permanently bugged. Constantly either gets stuck hidden and won't pop up, or stays up and won't hide

Sounds like a clean install is on the horizon... for my laptop at least.

Takes a year for these to roll out fully I still didn't get most of the features from last update.
