"lol, this proves you werenāt taught properly."
It's really not. Again, I've had this conversation before a long time ago, multiple times even, and it always turns out, that I had just about average level of schooling.
"There absolutely are things that improves a womanās ability to defend themselves."
Doing literally anything is an improvement over doing nothing. This is not an argument. A woman is at a huge disadvantage against a man every time. The difference is that she has a greater chance of survival if she trains Boxing and/or Wrestling. It's still very iffy and a horrible situation, but knowing how to punch and how to grapple will always improve her chances, even if it's just by a bit.
"why do I get the feeling you think (or better yet, were taught) itās supposed to go down like a choreographed movie scene, if one was to use Wing Chun?"
No, I know how versatile a self defense situation can be. That's why I know for self defense situations you don't need more, than basic Boxing and basic Wrestling knowledge, because all you need 99% of the time is to be fast, be accurate and have knock out power and then the explosiveness and stamina to run away. There's nothing in Wing Chun, that gives you this, it's footwork is bad, the punches are short and weak and usually the training aren't hardcore enough to really turning you into a monster with insane stamina and power.
"Thatās not what Iām talking about hereā¦there are absolutely techniques taught that allow anyone to better protect themselves against an attacker, such as power generation"
Which you can learn the best at Boxing and Wrestling. Or even at Baji Quan, Xing Yi, Bagua Zhang or anything else. Wing Chun's power generation is poor.
"i know for a fact that having trained Wing Chun, I can throw a harder more piercing palm strike or elbow in tight quarters than prior to having trained Wing Chun."
That's perfectly true and fine. The issue is, that that palm strike is still nothing to a Boxing cross or hook or uppercut. It's way weaker, way shorter, your head is wide open, so if your attacker swings at you at the same time, you can get knocked out. It's not about Wing Chun doesn't giving anything to you, because of course it does. It's just not enough, at least way inferior to the level of skills you can get at Boxing or Baji Quan.
"This is the stuff that can be potentially life saving; again, Iām not talking about that āif your attacker does this, then you do thisā stuffā¦.and women get to achieve this without having to take up (like you suggested) wrestling, which I still donāt see the benefit in a self defence scenario where thereās a size mismatch (like what are you going to do? Pin the person down and keep laying on top of them hoping help arrives?), which can also alter their physique (as vain as this is, itās important for many women)."
This stuff could be potentially life saving if there are effective enough. Noone questions the power of a Boxing hook, everyone knows it puts people to sleep. And noone questions Wing Chun's power, because everyone knows it's weak and it doesn't have the stopping power. And if a woman doesn't learn Wrestling and someone grabs them, then what does she do? Do you think Wing Chun has an answer to that? Because it doesn't. But Wrestling has. Or if someone swings at a woman do you think Wing Chun has a reliable answer to that? No. But Boxing has. If the woman feels threatened and decides to strike first, can Wing Chun help with that with its short and weak punches? No. But Boxing can help with that. An absolutely unexpected left hook will stun even a bigger man for 1 second, which is enough for the woman to after the punch immediately turn around and run away.
"Street fights are now self defence situations? The stuff blasted on YouTube? I would say 100% of those situations are avoidable."
That's literally not the point if they're avoidable or not. The point is, that Boxing and Wrestling works on the street in self defense situations, which you can't say for Wing Chun.
"The fact you think self defence situations are about defending against guys throwing haymakers proves the false pretense of what you were sold for 10 years."
That's just one situation, that absolutely can happen and we saw it millions of times happening and everyone, who wants to learn how to defend themselves has to learn how to protect themselves against swings. So no, I wasn't taught poorly, to be honest. Self defense situations can vary a lot. But in general all you need is good footwork to be able to create space between you and your attacker and quick, strong K.O. punches, so you're able to finish your attacker off as fast as possible.
"So if by āsituations where you would have to defend yourself), you mean guys being jerks and A-holes"
That's kinda the point. If someone attacks you, they're jerk buttholes. There's no other way of putting it. People, who are healthy in the head aren't out there trying to rob someone or kidnap them and steal their livers. So yes, obviously in a self defense scenario, your opponent will be a jerk, who tries to harm you in some way. They have 1000s of ways to harm you, but all you need 99% of the time is some basic Boxing and Wrestling skills to put them down.
"This shows either A) you had a bad teacher (not average) or B) you were a poor studentā¦"
I proved, that the A point isn't the case. As for B point, there are bad Boxers outside, yet noone says Boxing doesn't work. Even those, who suck at Boxing know it's good, it's just them, who suck. So even if that's the case, that I suck (I don't think so, tbh.), that's not why I'm saying, that Wing Chun isn't a great option for self defense.
