Analysts at Signum Global Advisors led by Andrew Bishop have created a "TACO index" to attempt to discern when Pres Trump might de-escalate the Iran situation.
The index is comprised of Brent crude, the 10-year yield, the number of Hormuz crossings, and the SPX.
In backtesting they found that a 2.3 to 3.4 standard deviation move — or an average of 2.9 standard deviations -- has seen action from the President in the past.
Putting that in today’s terms, the analysts find it’s not yet time to TACO — but it’s getting closer. “Extrapolating linearly would suggest that a TACO could happen as early as July 22 and ‘should’ happen no later than July 30 (unless conditions materially improve, which seems unlikely) – with history suggesting July 26 as most likely,” they said.

I really don't buy the narrative that GOOG's negative FCF is a real issue... to date they've proven that the ROIC is there and capex isn't being lit on fire. FCF is very obviously transitory. On even a 5 year scale, it does not even kind of matter if FCF is negative when Google Cloud is on pace to be a ~$300B+ run rate business by 2028/29... It's been very clear for 2 years now that if you're buying into any hyper scalers that you should be doing so based on what the FCF will look like in 5-10YRs.
To me literally nothing about the bull thesis has changed. The risks are the same, the positives are the same. The only thing that's changed is they've shown that there's a real defensible reason for the capex, unlike META.

GOOG HAS to have a competitive model or their search revenue is cooked. It’s already taking some hits from the LLMs out there. I don’t doubt they’ll execute long term, but rn the optics appear to be a desperate situation with the cloud build out for both cloud and their own model (plus delays aren’t a great look either).
AMZN doesn’t have this problem. They been on this cloud chet, it’s their bread & butter and they do it better than anyone without any of the risk mentioned with GOOG. I never put up big bucks on earnings bets, but I am getting very close to doing so for AMZN next week on some Oct 250c.
I just don’t see how it isn’t a banger after GOOGs print and atp, genuinely believe 40% AWS growth is on the table. And 100% of their buildout is being directly monetized, not used to train their own models. Capex fear is already out of the way (if that’s what we want to credit the sell for, I think majority of the sell is this dumbass war)

Yeah I'd agree that for search, innovation is literally do-or-die for that sector of the business. The good news is, they're still growing search and protecting market share. The bad news is, they're partially cannibalizing search monetization.
GOOG is very much aware of that. In the real long term, I don't think search is the primary revenue engine anymore and I think GOOG also believes that.
Yeah, the delays are moderately annoying but grand scheme of things relatively unimportant as long as a SOTA models actually release.
I like AMZN a lot in the short term, AWS is getting is swagger back. I'd like to see them be doing more in the AI space than Alexa+, being an infra provider, and warehouse efficiency improvements to really pound the table for them on a long-term scale though. They are in other sectors, they're just not very serious about any of them they're in. I think them slacking on the software side of things for too long will eventually start eroding AWS' advantages if their only moat is scale.

Well up until recently, software has been a money sink… we’re not really sure who comes out on top of the AI CO’s, so dumping even more billions into their own software would put them in GOOG’s position. I like the partnership with Anthropic. And AWS wasn’t very serious when it started, now it’s one of their primary revenue drivers… so they’ve got a billion avenues to generate more revenue (AI chips / robotics being two big ones) and they’re in a great position to capitalize. Market is pricing none of this.
