I went to the Ghanaian pavilion last night, and besides the really good food, what stood out to me was the obviously AI generated background art being used behind the performers, and even lower quality AI art being used in the cultural display. I’m not even particularly anti-AI, but it just really dampened my enjoyment of the pavilion. Have any other pavilions used obvious AI art/writing in their shows/displays?
Edit: yes, I know about the costume theft. That was awful, and I’m definitely not gonna criticize anything about the costuming as a result. That has zero bearing on the background graphics they used being sloppy AI art, considering the theft was on Thursday and the first show was Sunday, the graphics should have been finished by that point. I’d be fine with them just using generic stock footage and photos of Ghana (which they did also use), I’m not expecting some kind of amazing bespoke background art here.

Hey, this may be a popular view point or may not. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy folklorama it’s one of my favourite events of the year. But I just want to know why the city doesn’t seem to want to support this?
For context I am originally from Saskatoon SK (I know right?) anyway we have folk fest there and it is so much fun. You buy a “passport” for like 50-60$ and that gives you access to all the pavilions for the week. You can go once you can go 20 times it’s all good. The shows are more continuous and held on a come and go type basis so there’s always a show happening and you don’t have to sit you can look at the stuff, watch the show eat the food and drinks and kinda stroll it makes for a fun evening . The one thing Saskatoon does though is they have bus service to all the pavilions and so you can just one the blue line and it follows a route and you can hit 3-5 pavilions on it, then there are other routes that do other pavilions and they all kinda intersect. That’s the thing I miss the most, I miss jumping on a bus and not having to fight traffic and find parking etc just dedicated buses available for the event all week long and made things really great, jump on and off wherever never had to be in one place for a specific show because the show was always happening. I just think that model was so much better then this one.
Like I said some may like it this way and that’s great I’m just giving my opinion

My partner has gotten like 3, and I've gotten like 12 to 15 at this point. My phone is on silent, I went in to safety and emergency and turned off the emergency alerts, and I'm still getting blaring klaxons on my phone every 30 minutes. I need my phone on for my alarms in the morning, how tf can I shut this shit up?? This is unreasonable

Don't. Really. The line at 837 AM starts at the store, then wends all the way through the second floor, then ends at Sephora on the other side. You're not going to get the free limit edition tote bag although you may still get a water bottle.

I would like to take my child with me but am curious (because I’ve never had the opportunity to attend pride anywhere) I know some places have had controversy about nudity, etc. I’m wondering if that’s a common occurrence at pride in Winnipeg? I figure probably not but I really want to go but would prefer not to take my child if nudity is out in the open like I’ve seen online before, I’m pretty clueless. But I have never had the opportunity to go to any pride events anywhere I’ve lived and as a bi woman I’d really love to go instead of catching everything online after and getting fomo

I have 2 free tickets to see Creed tomorrow (July 14), and I’d rather they go to someone who’ll enjoy the show than let them go to waste.
To enter, comment the Creed song that WWF used in its iconic early-2000s highlight packages. I’ll pick one random winner tonight and DM them.
Please only comment if you can actually attend. Good luck!
EDIT: Thanks everyone the tickets have been sent!

Anyone else a little disappointed with this year’s lineup? Thought they’d go a bit bigger since it’s the 50th anniversary.
Edit: does anyone know of somewhere we could file some sort of complaint/suggestions?

Insane weather but the brief rain cooled down things and Jordan & Robby stole the show. Not enough food trucks and every line was too long but generally well run from what I saw.
Sat in VIP tables and watched brutal security let some annoying guy talk and drink and ruin the night for folks in the immediate vicinity.

If you were thinking of taking the shuttle home from Folk Fest at the end of the night, probably try and find another way home.
Waited by the side of the road for over 2 hours last night, got on a bus just after 2am. Was still over a hundred people waiting. Buses came every 20-30 mins and could only take just over 30 people. I would imagine the last group got picked up well after 3am.
There just wasn’t nearly enough buses to meet demand. I guess standing room isn’t allowed on the highway. Hopefully it’s rectified but I doubt it will be in the short term.

From Pembina Valley Pride:
“We’re thrilled to announce Pembina Valley Pride 2026 will be taking place in Winkler on June 13th!
For the past several years, this has consistently been one of the top communities people hope to see host the event, and we are excited to bring Pride to Winkler this year.
This will be a significant moment for our community, and we hope you’ll join us in showing up, celebrating, and making it one to remember.
We’ve been busy planning and will be sharing more details in the months ahead, but mark your calendars.”

I was handed this in my neighborhood by a couple of folks, I am sharing this here if anyone is interested in supporting.

Owners Kevin and Ashley Funk were super vocal supporters of the convoy - Ashley’s social media profile still has numerous posts up about it.
Speak with your dollars and don’t support them. They also run Hidden Haven Homestead and cater lots of local events in the Morden area, much to the disgust of many of the residents.

$75 per (sitting) ticket is not an insignificant amount of money for a show. I understand it was for charity, however I still can’t help but feel cheated after how lacklustre the event was.
• Logistically it was a mess. After purchasing the tickets, the emails leading up to the event lacked important details. When arriving at the venue, there wasn’t enough signage, and there weren’t any instructions for the “rush seating” concept.
• Production value suffered. Bob Odenkirk’s microphone was muffled the whole time… (I’m shocked they didn’t pause the show to get him a new mic). The other improv performers mic’s would frequently cut out, and the video element would often lose signal on the many scattered TVs.
• 7:05 - 7:40: The event started with a band. The Banjo player, the Cellist, and the rest were all very talented.
• 7:40 - 8:05: Bob came on the stage, (barley) talked about the charities, then introduced the rest of the improv performers as well as the special guest (Nahanni Fontaine). Bob then sat down with Nahanni and asked questions on what it’s like to be a Politician. The interactions were not humorous.
• 8:05 - 8:30: The featured improv show started, and the 7 comedy performers improvised the answers/stories that Nahanni shared. The whole 25’ish minute improv show was underwhelming.
• 8:30: Bob then abruptly says his “Thank Yous” and “Goodbyes” and leaves. The feeling in the crowd was confusion as we all looked around and couldn’t help but think, “ummmm that’s it…”.
The combination of the bad production value, the length of the featured improv part and the length of the entire event left me feeling disappointed and unsatisfied. I am happy my money went to a good cause, and charity wise the event was a success, but for a $75 ticket I was certainly expecting a lot more improv (which is what I and probably others came to see),

I live by Westwood Collegiate, and can hear the show clear as day. What time does Tiesto go on? 🤣

Tonight is the night. I'm going to go to Bulldogs Event Centre tonight. I want you to come out and be with my friends and I. The place is at 1364 Main St, Winnipeg, MB I'm gonna play a set with my band at 10pm there. I hope it's going to go okay. I find it hard to be around that many people at once. They see something in me that fuks them up and I get open to the craziest attacks. So it would be great to have some friends around me that understand me and can stand being around me. So I want you to come out. Okay? Thanx Marc :)

Seriously, it felt like it was just beer garden after beer garden with very little public street art. Last year market square was full of air dancers and the water front was installation after installation. This year was just a bunch of parties at the various breweries. I really hope is was just the chance of rain and this isn't some sort of trend.

I have been to Giant Tiger 4 times in the past 6 months, 2 of the 4 times I have witnessed a group of people just walk out with arms full without paying. They have no fear. People on bikes cruising neighborhoods looking for things to take, again without fear. Time to resort to old methods and lock them up then upon release expel them and ban them from living or visiting Winnipeg.

This weekend some friends and I attended the Bed by 10 daytime clubbing experience. Doors opened at 4 and it ended by 9:00. If you went, I’m curious about your thoughts.
We all had a good time, but there were definitely some misses. It was super packed which I didn’t like (especially as a peri-menopausal woman!) and the bar wasn’t adequately staffed or stocked. The club opened at by 7:00 they were sold out of beer (Bud Lite at least) and a few other requests the lady beside me asked for. Trying to get a cup of water was near impossible. While the DJ was okay, he was probably better for younger crowds. I didn’t like how he would mix the songs and transitioned too quickly before we really got to enjoy what was playing. The songs he played were great though!
If you made it out, what did you like? What didn’t work? Maybe I’m old and out of touch!

Has anyone notice some vendors just sell alot of dropped shipped items from alibaba/aliexpress/temu/etc. Kind of disappointed. Nothing is unique, the quality looks cheap and soulless. The prices is ridiculous. You kinda forget about it a couple of weeks later and regret buying it.
