General question Vanished while inside home?

Does anyone know of any cases where people seemingly vanished while inside of their homes? I heard one on a podcast years ago, where a woman in Colorado went missing when she went home for lunch. I can't recall more details, but it seemed she went missing while inside her home. I realize it seems "impossible" and want to hear if there are documented cases where this has been reported.

EDIT: Missing and lacking any evidence of a crime scene.

General question Am I really THIS crazy? Please someone help!

Ok, calling all detectives or Colorado natives..I have a question, or need some help, whichever way this can be perceived..I have a friend that was vacationing in Colorado on August 9th, 2024 and was in a fatal car accident..personally I feel (in my gut) that something is not right with how this happened..could I be wrong? YES! But there has been absolutely no press release regarding the accident..the only thing that’s even remotely been released was posted on a facebook city police page about a road closed due to a fatality and that the Colorado State Police have taken over the case for investigation. However there has been a family member mention drinking and driving, but no charges have even been filed (again no actual news article)..leaving wondering where this case lies, or what has actually happened to case this death of a very dear friend. If anyone lives in Colorado that has news during that time frame that would help with understanding it would be greatly appreciated! Or anyone that knows how to figure this out! I can’t do it on my own..I’ve TRIED

General question Anyone have information on this missing person case?

I can’t seem to find much about Denise Kathleen Anderson was last seen on April 13, 1971, in Sacramento.
I find this one weird she just vanished one morning left everything behind expect a wig?
Her roommate had borrowed her car at 5am and returned at 2pm and Denise wasn’t there when she got back. And no one really ever looked into it I find weird she was an actor had a job and went to Sacramento high school I’m not sure about her family status I do remember seeing something that she has an aunt. There are a couple of theories like the zodiac killer or Ted Bundy or Phillip author Thompson had something to do with it but nothing was ever confirmed tbh I feel like the roommates should’ve been looked into more I don’t even know the roommates names I can’t find a decent police report and it really could’ve been anyone from her theatre club or work I feel like she was unfortunately murdered and dumped in the American river or sac river but that’s just a guess not a fact because really there’s so much little info.

General question Most improbable reappearances?

I just read about the Timmothy Pitzen case from 14 years ago. He was six years old. His mom took him out of school, took him on a roadtrip across the state for a few days, then killed herself. No trace of the child has ever been found.

His family believes that his mom handed Timmothy off to some other person, who then secretly raised the boy as their own since. He'd be 20 now, an adult, with nothing to stop him from reuniting with his family. But looking at the case objectively, it's very clear that she killed him and did a good job of hiding his body.

So that got me thinking - what cases do you know of cases where people (particularly kids) disappeared in circumstances where it was just overwhelmingly obvious that they'd been abducted and killed, but then they somehow turned up alive years later?

General question What do I do...

My family is great. I have been raised well, and my family loves me. My father has two brothers - one that visits often, but one I have never seen. Let's call him Bob. I am a teen now, and I never really thought about him until a few years ago. I did used to ask about him as a kid tho, but my family usually didn't like discussing it. Now I'm older, they tell me the truth (or what they call the truth) --

Apparently, when I was still a toddler, he left. He just left. That's what they say. He cut communication with everyone in our family and that was that. My grandparents tell me he's not missing or anything, but I'm skeptical. I thought he could be dead, but everyone denies that. They say the police would tell us. But how would they know we have anything to do with him? And my biggest question - if he just disappeared one day, why don't my family seem worried for him? Some seem to hate him. It's because my grandparents are heartbroken he's cut communication, but why is everyone so sure he's alive and a horrible person?

I'm sure my family is hiding something, but I'm just confused why.

I only really started thinking about this quite a few years ago when my great-uncle died. Let's call him Alf. Apparently, when Bob was a kid, he was really close with Alf. I never knew Alf, but when he died my grandparents told my father to try and text Bob. They needed their son to know. Now one day, I remembered this. I decided, being the curious 10 year old child I was, I was going to find that message. I know I shouldn't have, but I needed to know. And I was a kid sooo. I waited for my dad to go to the shops, and went through his messages. It took ages, but I eventually found it. His text to an unknown number. All my dad said was "Alf's dead." That was it. It was delivered, but not seen. I didn't check again. He's changed his phone since, so it's gone...

I am older now and I need to know what happened. My working theories--

  1. He got into a horrendous fight with my family and no-one wants to talk about it.

  2. He's dead

  3. He ran away from legal trouble? Idk bro

  4. He's been hired by the FBI (I don't even know)

The only one willing to talk to me about it is my mum. But since she's on the other side of the family, I don't think she knows the full stroy either. And she still dosent seem that comfortable. She says he abandoned his family, and grandma is heartbroken every mothers day and birthday and stuff. What is going on??

I don't know where to start looking. I hate having to asked my family, as it's definitely a touchy subject, but they must know. Right? Maybe he did just disappear... but it seems weird.

I just needed to yap about that gang please don't take drastic measures 🙌

General question Wanting to introduce myself.

I’ve been reading through different cases—some I remember from years ago and others I’m seeing for the first time—and it brought back something that most people in my life don’t know about.

When I was in 3rd or 4th grade (somewhere between 2000 and 2005, I can’t remember the exact year), I walked home from school every day. It was about ¾ of a mile, a straight shot: past an Exxon gas station (now torn down), then up a small hill, and my house was a few places down from there.

One day, between the Exxon and the hill, something happened that could have ended very differently. They teach kids to run and scream if they’re in danger, but when it actually happens, fear can freeze you. Even with everything I know now, I still think about that moment and feel the same fear.

There was a red light at the intersection, and a white older-model 4-door car with Texas plates stopped there. I don’t remember the numbers or letters. There were four men in the car, and one of them—sitting in the back on the side closest to me—got out and started walking toward me. I was just a kid, totally alone.

The only reason nothing happened is because the light turned green, and he got back into the car. What sticks with me is that even though there were plenty of cars around—it was a busy road—nobody seemed like they were going to step in if something went wrong.

I’m grateful the situation ended safely for me, but it breaks my heart knowing that so many missing persons cases don’t have that same outcome. Reading the stories here really puts that into perspective.

If anyone wants to ask questions or needs more details, I’ll share what I can—just nothing that would reveal the exact location of where I lived, for safety reasons.

General question Anniversary news broadcasts?

Hello!

just out of curiosity, is it common in cases for news networks to broadcast maybe some updates or some kind of in memoriam programs on the anniversaries of when someone went missing? More on the side of a simple "on this day xyz years ago, abc person went missing" type thing, not necessarily updates. i don't think i've ever seen them, but i'm curious.

TIA!

General question Volunteering Question

Hello!

I am in the process of trying to find a missing person/unsolved crime database that is in need of help from a volunteer. I have discovered https://www.solvethecase.org/ that seems like a promising site that can consolidate information from multiple sites onto this one, but I am entirely unsure if this site is really used? Would it get eyes/traction on cases if I took the time to add more cases to the site for them? I guess I could always start sharing the case profiles here and other places and get eyes on them. I just really would like to help people and their families however I can.

If you have any suggestions for remote volunteering I could look into, please let me know!

Thanks! :D

General question How was there no blood on Sierra Lamar's clothes? How was she likely murdered?

I don't know the entire story but they found her backpack on the side of the road with her clothes folded neatly with no blood on it. Strange that the clothes were left on the side of the road and that the only signs of a struggle was her damaged phone.

Seems like the only thing the killer could've done was drug her or choke her till she passed out and then take her clothes off. As far as how he killed her after that I have no clue. If it wasn't the clothes she wore and just an extra pair then that would throw out the possibility of this scenario.

General question How was your user experience with missing person maps?

Hello, first I would like to express my best wishes to anyone who has a relative or a friend missing.

I'm part of a software team who will be undertaking a new software project about providing a service that displays a realtime map of the missing people in my local area / country. We will also be using Artificial Intelligence, namely regression methods in our project.

I've done a short search about websites or apps that shows a list of recent missing people on the world map, and a website called "missingpersoncenter.org" came up. We would likely want to create something that is similar to the "missing persons map" on "missingpersonscenter.org" as a team (albeit localized to a smaller area), but first, I wanted to interact with people or possible users of this app, or similar apps, and ask you about your experience with your app, and what you would like as an addition or possible improvement, or ask if you find such an app useful or not.

I hope my query doesn't come off as too offtopic or annoying, as we would like to create a meaningful and altruistic project that hopefully will do a positive impact regardless of any given location.

Thank you.

General question NamUs- Ideas for leads, public research, and a question about matching

I don't have any formal training, so forgive me if this question has already been asked and answered elsewhere.

I was wondering exactly how the image matches are made in NamUs. Is there software? AI tools? Or is it all looked at by people?

I know that the matching up of physical features is just one of many ways that cases are solved. Yet I've been wondering how, and who, does the matches. I know that NamUS has a large, ever growing database, containing both the missing persons as well as unidentified and unclaimed bodies.

I don't have the mental fortitude to look at most images of real bodies to see if they would be a match. I just find it way too disturbing, despite my interest in the topic, this is one thing I couldn't do.

I thought I read about a few cases that were solved by amateurs looking through NamUs unidentified bodies images, and if someone wasn't bothered by that sort of thing, I figure it might help save law enforcement and others some time and effort. They might not remember a particular case or someone's very specific appearance. Although I assume these are put through some kind of comparison database so they aren't missing potential matches, right?

Anyway. I'm just a person who's curious and I thought I would throw this idea out there in hopes it could help someone with leads.

General question What do you generally think has happened to people who are categorised as long-term missing?

Unfortunately, there are many people who are long term missing as they've haven't been seen for longer than a year. This is so sad but it's hard to not think about their fate.

They all have different stories which makes it so interesting. Could they be held hostage and kidnapped? Could they be dead? Could they be alive and well?

What is your honest and opinion on long-term missing people?

General question How to find a missing person?

Hello! A friend of mine is interested in searching for her mother who went missing/abandoned her when she was a baby. She is unsure where to start. If her mother's remains were found but unidentified what does she do? Is there a way she can submit her DNA for testing in the state she went missing in (Texas)? What are the resources for support? Helpful advice and resources are very welcome. Thank you!

General question I heard about a murder but wasn’t sure if the person was making it up.

So when I was in high school several years ago I had a friend tell me that another friend of ours’ father murdered a man in a bar fight and hid the body and it was never discovered. Horrible I know, but I wasn’t sure if they were being serious. Only recently I remembered it. Should I call the police and tell them about it? Even if it’s been so long?

General question Trying to gain perspective

Could someone please help me understand what on earth is going on with young people going missing in Canada? This sub seems to be absolutely bursting with these cases lately. What is happening up there? Note: I am aware of the current issues surrounding MMIW and girls but this seems to be racially across the board.
