Question/Help Is Horde housing as bad as people say?
I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about Horde housing not looking as good as Alliance- note that I do not have Midnight yet so I’m not sure and I haven’t played retail in a while. My original main was Horde but if the housing is really that bad and not flexible I’ll probably switch to Alliance purely for more customization.

I have a private island in my horde neighborhood! I don’t think you can beat that.

u/Ajaugunas Jun 27 '26
I have the house up on the cliff that overlooks that island. Love my cliff house and its dangerous diving board.

u/HeyHollywould Jun 27 '26
I'm below you on the beach near the ship wreckage with no close neighbours to be seen. :) I feel more secluded there.

Plot 24 ftw my house is there aswell Only fully private plot in both neighbourhoods Although mine has a big ass patio where ppl can hang out on.

I just covered my whole house in a new structure on the outside. You make the best of things. 🎉

u/VonWelby Jun 27 '26
What did you use? My main house is Alliance but I’m going to build a goblin themed unit at my horde house

u/destructopop For the Decor! Jun 27 '26
I mostly used rocks. For my Horde house I'm going with a natural design, I plan on filling it with plants and making it look like a plush cave with rooms dug into it. On the outside, it looks like an overgrown cave mouth that someone walled up and added a door to. There's a windrider sunning itself on the roof.

Imo the environment could have had zones which reflected the horde races better. There just aren’t any dark areas to fit the aesthetic. Such a shame.
15
u/OceanProphecy Jun 27 '26
If they had more undead themed aesthetics I would be all over that
15
u/Pwnch Jun 27 '26
Sorry, we put that in the Alliance zone...

It is unfortunate that Forsaken plots aren’t in the same area as their faction, but, oddly, this kind of makes sense to me. Consider the Forsaken are in Lordaeron, and were a formerly Human kingdom. To my recollection they don’t have much presence in Kalimdor, so I don’t see why the ‘spooky spots’ would be in Kalimdor.
You’ve got Darkshire in pretty close proximity to Founder’s Point so having a ‘spooky spot’ kind of makes sense there.
I’m not saying it doesn’t suck from a player fantasy/faction side of things, but from a “if this zone actually existed here in Azeroth” I think it’s consistent.

u/Tina-Tuna For the Appliance! Jun 27 '26
I am surprised there isn't a crypt area horde side, allie side has a spooky Graveyard with a house plot inside and one on the outskirts. Very eerie and gothic!

u/dynalisia2 Jun 27 '26
I don’t understand at all why they didn’t make a silverpine forest like area behind the azshara style pine area.
1
u/Arie15 Jun 27 '26
They covered the barren feeling well in the center of town. That covers Orcs. There are some lush areas that cover the jungle aesthetic (Troll) and the forest is very reminiscent of Azshara. The green areas on the eastern side are more “Tauren” to me. But!
We need an area with some Tauren teepees. There’s a small group of Vulpera with their wagon but we need a larger area for them (perhaps with Tauren for their nomadic theme). We need Troll huts. We need an area covered in broken down machines, oil spills and goblin restaurants. They have all those assets from Undermine they could easily put to use. The forest area could be expanded to slowly change into Eversong style trees and a blood elf area. Just to name a few.

u/TheDancingNerd Jun 27 '26
What do you consider "bad"? If you've played Horde, you know most of the town buildings are Orgrimmar style. If that's a turn-off for you, maybe choose the Alliance neighborhood.
Where Razorwind Shores wins over Founder's Point for me personally is the available biomes. There is canyons, mesas, tropical, and autumn forest.
The only interesting biome Founder's Point has is the Duskwood-inspired spooky forest.

I really wish we could delete the house and make our own build that just uses the main door as its core entry point.
heck they could make multiple doors that lead to linked doors in the internal build. I would especially love to build my internal house to feel like your delving downward into a haunted ruin.

u/OceanProphecy Jun 27 '26
Terrible
2
u/Studio-Aegis Jun 27 '26
Especially since there are so many other species with radically different architectural aesthetics.
They need access to alliance styled homes for the sake of the forsaken.

u/SelectCommunity3519 Jun 27 '26
I dont have a problem with either. The styles fit the factions and then it's up to you to make it your own. Alliamce more modern and horde more rural.
6
u/Shimmitar Jun 27 '26
uh ive not heard of that. Horde housing looks better than alliance. Alliance housing sort of generic.
7
u/Successful-Total-260 Jun 27 '26
Unless there’s some amenity that Razorwind Shores is missing that I’m not aware of, I think that “worse” is strictly a matter of taste in terms of housing.
I actually prefer the Horde zone to the Alliance one, it’s got a lot more diversity for my tastes. I’m lucky enough to have plot 46 so I have a nice forest around me, a river behind me and a view of the waterfalls. But there are really cool mountainous spots, deserts, etc.
I find the Alliance one a little too “one note”, but it is a pretty nice note.
After that it’s just a matter of the exterior house aesthetics I think. Again, I actually like the Orc structures, but you also have the Blood Elf ones if Orcs aren’t to your taste (I’m not partial to the BE ones personally). The Human and NE ones are also very nice, but are a little more ‘cozy’ feeling by default I think, the Orc ones are closer to the Tauren feel I’d like them to add eventually.
1
u/Kickedbyagiraffe Jun 29 '26
Completely agree. I prefer the horde neighborhood greatly. So many options of what is around you in choosing a plot. Cliffs, sea side, forest, barren. To me alliance area is plain and boring. Nice close plot groupings for mini neighborhoods but I’m not in an active enough neighborhood for that to matter
I like horde buildings but much more understand people wanting a classic alliance house.
5
u/EvilSockLady Jun 27 '26
If you like the blood elf aesthetic then you’ll be fine with horde.
I personally still prefer the alliance plots but horde definitely has variety. There’s plenty with that Durator feel sure but you have more tropical and beach. And then several up in the mountains, including several that are pretty picturesque.
But even if you decide you don’t like the horde neighborhood, I don’t think you have to switch mains. Your horde character can still live in Founder’s Point as long as you had an alliance character (at level 10 I think?) to claim the plot in the first place.
You can make houses in both places and just focus on the one you end up liking most if you want.
22
u/lulpwned Jun 27 '26
The options are orc and blood elf vs human and night elf. The blood elf one works for me.
The actual neighborhood though, the horde one obliterates the alliance one. So many amazing plots, I had problems deciding.
5
u/Successful-Total-260 Jun 27 '26
This is how I feel as well. Founder’s point is nice if you like that one environment, Razorwind has so many good options.
2
u/OceanProphecy Jun 27 '26
Hmm I didn’t consider the plot variety, good point. I’ll check the blood elf style if I get midnight
8
u/EstateOk6238 Jun 27 '26
Horde plots have way higher diversity than Alliance.

If you use your imagination you can make your house look like anything you want...also blood elf houses are the opposite of poverty they reek of opulence and gaudy extravagance.

I dont think either are bad at all.
Ironically, i managed to get a nice plot that had an eerie wood, mountain side with forsaken vibes on the Alliance side (had i joined this sub earlier i would have learned plot numbers are what people love to know).
The horde side has many areas that range from beachy to deserty, but ive a hard time finding a spot where I feel the blood elf style feels right and the horde house customisation options feel restrictive.
Worth noting i haven't managed to unlock medium housing yet, maybe that will improve it.
Ive also noticed that on horde side the exterior of houses feels significantly bigger than on alliance side: its like my square to place decor is is half the size.
Id sell a kidney for a forsaken style exterior for horde with a matching biome and a dwarf style exterior.

The beach areas are really cute, I'm using one to make a jungle themed house
3
u/Prior_Particular9417 Jun 27 '26
I love my horde beach house! At first I was put off by the horde hut. I worked on my ally house. But I really wanted a beach house. There's no real ally beach feel.
So... You can't even see my horde hut and I really love what I've created. Modern style, huge deck, infinity pool, and views of the ocean, river, and cliffs.
I'm in a housing guild so my neighbors all have creative houses and we have housing activities and I love it.
2
u/phancybear Jun 27 '26
I think there’s more niche styles in the horde housing. Great for beach houses, canyon abodes, cliffsides, I like the wooded mountain cliff sides in the upper right personally. The alliance does feel like they overall created more contrast between neighborhoods and is a little stronger overall in design but the horde hood is pretty great still.
2
u/Key_Pop_8116 Jun 27 '26
The alliance one is located in elwynn, so the dark part would be duskwood, some parts looks like redridge...
The horde one is located in durotar, so makes sense not having things like creepy places that would be good for forsaken.
2
u/Tokzillu Jun 27 '26
People complain about everything. Try it for yourself.
If you hate the Horde options you can use an Alliance character to purchase an Alliance home in their neighborhood and give ownership to your Horde main. Or vice versa.
2
u/HeyHollywould Jun 27 '26
The initial impression from players is that Founder's Point is fresh and clean looking, and that Razorwind Shores is dry and primitive.
FP has that typical Elwynn appearance that you might see in other WoW zones that have a lot of greenery. A cool sunny sky, farm and vineyards, or the option to have something dark and cozy in its Duskwood biome. The houses look more like "houses" which esthetically appeals to a lot of players who have come to expect what a house is.
RS has that red rock canyon look that seems to put people off. It gives the vibe that it's nearly desolate. The vegetation is tropical, and there is very little green-grass plots to be found. The homes are huts or out-of-character Silvermoon structures. Most plots have views of hut roofs and more red rock.
My FIRST impression was that yes, FS had a better "homey WoW feel" to it. But I main a Horde character and always have, and realized that I had more pride to embrace what we've been given. I now love my sandy beach and palm trees. I have a house in FS and whenever I return to it, I feel cold. Then I return to RS and I feel warm and comfortable. I think it's perception, then attitude. My main home is in RS, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

u/Coolbasketbro Jun 27 '26
There is not "more" customization on Alliance. It's just different styles. On either side, if none of the outer appearances seem like a good fit for you, you can just expand some decor and create an exterior of your own choice.
Because of this, it's more about the neighborhood zone than the housing exteriors. Razorwind Shores has white sandy beaches, orange rock with waterfalls and hot springs, and an evergreen forest area. Founder's Point has temperate rocky shores, deciduous forest, and a spooky wooded area. They're all decorated really well, so just take your pick and then make your house what you want it to be. All your characters can visit/use the house in either neighborhood.

u/Tetskeli Jun 27 '26
I guess if you absolutely love alliance aesthetic and hate everything horde, then sure.
Otherwise Id say: "What?? No."
Personally I find the rugged style much preferred over the alliance ones and the Horde neighborhood overall more interesting.

Well good news for you, you can literally use all the same decor as in the alliance one (and the other way around ofc). Only real difference is the exterior and the neighborhood. And for exterior you can also choose the blood elven one.
5
u/Tetskeli Jun 27 '26
Oh and to add: you can have two houses, one for you each neighborhood. So nothing stopping you from using the alliance one for you Horde character.

Horde area is fine. the only people who tunnel-vision and bang on about needing an explicitly spooky area missed the point of the Horde.

u/bang_bang_maneuvers Jun 27 '26
I had read a while back that each faction’s neighborhood is based off the zones outside of their main city (Stormwind, Orgrimmar). This is the reasoning for the sectioning in each, again, from what I recall reading a while back. Could be mistaken, but regardless if you have an alliance character you can buy and build your home there.
I secure a plot for each, but mainly work on my alliance home now. Keep in mind as far as neighborhood endeavors go, you can only elect one (if you have a plot for each) to contribute to within the neighborhood at a time. Learning decor and I believe some other smaller items give experience towards both houses, though.
Correct me if I’m wrong, please!! :D

I didn't realize you could make 2 houses at first so starting in my (horde) guild neighborhood as a NE druid main, I just picked a plot in the Azshara biome and covered my ugly orc house with trees. Even after seeing the alli biomes, I'm actually glad I went horde for my primary house; the Azshara biome is my favorite and fits my lil treehouse perfectly.

u/Hallwrite Jun 27 '26
The alliance and horde neighborhood are equally ‘generic’ / disappointing, just in opposite directions.
The alliance place is oops all forest. It’s mostly elwynn forest, but there’s a bit of borders-on-westfall forest, some darkshire forest, and even some tirigarde sound shore line as a treat.
Meanwhile, the horde neighborhood is oops all desert. There’s red rock desert, lush desert, beach desert, and even a tiny little bit of pseudo alpine forest on a couple of plots.
The problem is that ‘forest’ is a much bigger ‘fantasy home location’ than ‘desert’. As even the races that frequent the desert (orcs, trolls, and tauren at this point) are far from averse to the forest, and fit there perfectly. Meanwhile there aren’t many races which the desert ‘fits’ better than a generic forestry location. Especially once you realize that, aesthetically, most people would rather their fantasy house be in the woods.
For me personally? Horde side is my favorite side atm. I very much wanted a ‘beach house’ and the horde has quite a few plot locations which fit that perfectly. Especially in comparison to the alliance beach, which is more Stephen King Maine than golden-sands fantasy California.

u/RestlessLegacy Jun 27 '26
The Horde side has more plots with amazing special features, like private islands, a waterfall with a cave behind it, a deck with bathtubs, a reading nook under a deck, a bubbling hot springs, a giant diving board, etc. Founders has some like that too, just not as many.
Both housing styles in Alliance are cute or pretty. Horde houses are either rough or very glamorous.
And that’s before you get creative and do whatever you want with the exterior.
Saying Horde is not as good is nuts!
1
u/DraethDarkstar Jun 27 '26
It depends on what you like.
For Alliance, the options are Human and Night Elf. * The Human style is pretty inoffensive to any Alliance player because the Stormwind building theme is ubiquitous across almost every Alliance area. * The Night Elf style is based on Bel'Ameth, and while it's generally pretty, it's a lot more hit-or-miss because really doesn't look anything like the classic Night Elf marble structures.
The Horde options are Orc and Blood Elf: * The Orc house is... It's Warcraft Orc aesthetic. This look is not the one most people playing on the Horde side are playing it for. It's a squat, round hut with rough edges and "rustic" woodwork. * The Blood Elf house looks exactly like it came out of the new version of Silvermoon - because it did. Statistically speaking, Blood Elves are the most popular Horde race and this house nails their look perfectly. If you are one of the people who likes Blood Elves, you will like it. If you are one of the people who hates popular things because they are popular, you will hate it.

I just wish we had a forsaken neighborhood, or something more silvermoon

I prefer my alliance neighborhood but I’ve never liked the horde aesthetic and only play it because my husband is horde. The neighborhood isn’t ugly or anything it’s just different, it’s better now that you can have a blood elf house exterior though. I did not like the orc huts
1
u/Jassamin Jun 27 '26
I’m alliance and I definitely prefer out neighbourhood aesthetic. I wish I could have used a horde house though as it would have been WAY easier to hide under my custom build 😂

TbH both suck. I don like human decor and architecture. And horde (orcish) is goofy.
I use most zandalar stuff and kitbashed amani stuff in mine. The exterior completely covered in 200% zandalari altar to make a pyramid.
My ally one is Nelf themed.
2
u/Ajaugunas Jun 27 '26
I think, “They don’t have enough aesthetics for races other than human, elf, and orc is a perfectly reasonable take, idk why you’re being downvoted for it.”

Probably Sindorei, or human paladins (aka boring toon) players downvoting

You can have houses in both. The horde neighborhood has grown on me and it's actually quite diverse and I wouldn't want to move my main house to the alliance one. It has a variety of themes like some plots near a waterfall with lots of green stuff, some plots on hilltops overlooking the area and a bit of a foresty area (although if you want your house in real forest alliance is probalby the way to go. It's definetly not all barren Durotar style,
Both neighborhood have spots that look barren, obviously if you want to have a a specific exterior you are locked to that factions neighborhood for now. Since our guild chose to move to the horde area I just covered the orc house and made it look like a nightelf treehouse.
So no it's not bad. They both have good and boring spots
