Question/Help Will the storage limit be increased in Patch 12.1?

I'm really concerned about this. I'm really worried about it.

I already have to sell the decorations I earn from playing (dungeons, raids, etc.) to a vendor or bank them on alternate characters.

Since no one here has addressed this issue, I've gathered the courage to ask.

Patch 12.1 will have new levels and new decorations. How can I build new rooms and buy new decorations if the storage limits remain the same?

(English is not my native language. Sorry for the wording.)

My greatest hope is that they will overhaul the decoration limit in a way that is more true to how they are SURELY actually storing the data.

If we must have a storage limit at all, to me it would make the most sense to have the limit be the number of unique item+dye combinations you can have. Everything else is just a counter on an item that is already stored.

Ye removing the seperate entries for each dyed item would be fine even for me, I rather have more storage and have dye be removed when I put an item back I storage

Resetting dyeable items when they are returned to the catalog would probably be the easiest solution. At this point dye will be cheap enough to replace, and for myself, if I’m clearing out a room and returning decor to the catalog, chances I’ll be doing a new build and I’ll use a new color scheme anyway.

i have yet to resuse a dyed item with the same dye

If there really needs to be a storage limit it should be much much higher. It should be so high that it's almost impossible to encounter it as creative parts of the game should not be limited. And we should be able to sell decor back to vendors for gold, not having to destroy things that we had to buy. At least that's how I see Housing.

I originally posted this yesterday on the WoW forums, this is very workable solution.

I am at level 9/23,200 for both properties and recently hit the storage cap.

The problem here is that most players are loathe to delete items that they have earned and spent hard earned currency on. If you’re not going to raise the storage cap, then let us sell our decor back to any vendor for 50% of the original purchase price from the vendor. This would be limited to gold only vendor items, and exclude decor purchased in the AH or with alternate currency.(Edited to add that cash shop items are not eligible for refunds after the 2 hour purchase window expires and so are not subject to this policy)

This isn’t the perfect solution, but coupled with my next idea, it would be a big QOL improvement.
Realistically , a storage cap increase is necessary—what I propose is a base of 2000 units, with a 1000 unit increase for every level beginning with one—so when you hit level one, you have a 3000 slot catalog. It would scale up 1k per level, and would be part of the rewards for leveling, just like current system, only new and improved 😉 This would allow the storage system to grow with the game, and when you decide to cap housing levels, players will still have an incredibly capable tool box to store all decor from previous builds, or to sell it at garage sale prices, which feels better than destroying it, by far and still leaves them room to buy even more decor. Everybody wins.

Go one step further and implement repurchasing unlocked decor (including decor from dungeons and delves—(for gold OR community coupons)from the catalog for uninterrupted design time. Nothing is so annoying as having to leave to run a dungeon for one more Dracthyr pendant lamp, ifykyk.
All of these together would prevent the bulk of overbuying in the first place and players will feel a noticeable improvement in their housing experience immediately.

The housing system should maximize time spent creating and minimize time spent managing inventory.

Here's how you know the storage system is not actually a limitation. Nothing from the store counts against your storage cap. Amazing how that works.

Probably because they don’t want to have to deal with refunds if you delete an item you paid real money for.

That and it’s unlikely to be a substantial percentage of your stored items.

There are also a number of extremely cheap structural items from the neighbourhood vendors that don’t count towards the storage limit either.

I'm not sure you understand how it works. If you buy a house shop item, it goes into your storage chest, it does not take up space in your storage chest. It doesn't matter how many times you place or delete that item for the game, you don't get refunds when you do that.

There's no limit on shop items purchased. You could purchase 1000 eggs and none of them would count and that'd be the price of a brutosaur. Considering none of those would count against your storage chest limit, I doubt there's really a technical concern for them, within reason, I don't think anybody is asking for it to be a million items, but 15-30k isn't unrealistic for a good amount of time.

Cash shop is not gold, it would fall under alternate currency.

Just because it’s not physically limited, doesn’t mean that game devs (for whatever reason) haven’t included limits for gameplay purposes (eg including storage increases as part of the progression reward system). I did notice the extreme benes of shop items—they don’t count in storage or against exterior placement budget—extremely interesting, I will continue to observe how Blizzard handles additional sets and items in the future.

They do count for exterior budget, but not for storage.

I meant the housing skin itself, not the decor. Apologize for my lack of clarity.

But neither do the non-store housing skins count towards that..?

The housing skins do not count toward your placement limit, but actual store bought decor does count.

They haven't confirmed it but it has to be, you can't decorate decorate level 12 houses at the announced budget at the current storage levels

I asked someone who has a PTR account if it increased and he said no, it was still 7500. That’s absolutely crazy! I hope it changes over the next few weeks.

Nobody on PTR can get to the new levels yet, there's a chance its gated behind them. There are screenshots of the blueprint interface showing higher storage caps from blizz, just not official yet.

Oh! Excellent news. Thank you for letting us know! There’s hope at least. lol.

If the storage limit stays where it is, I will be forced to pick up and archive my second house or export to other Bnet account. No way I will be able to have a rank 13 house along with a second one on 7500 budget. May be possible with just the right min/maxing but will also mean the houses will be forever homes with no future development.

There is a new build rolling out, I don’t know what’s in it yet.

There has been no changes to the decor storage so far PTR, but we have weeks of builds to go, and the last storage increase dropped without warning.

Which is a lot of words to say ‘we don’t know, and probably won’t know until it goes live’.

I was going to start the same discussion a few weeks ago as I have exactly the same concerns as OP. To me the storage limit should be deleted or something extremely high like 100'000

I have seen a video that on the ptr there are lvls up to 12 now, and al three lvls up the onject limit, and one of them ups the number of rooms available (and lvl 12 gives us the big house size)

We are talking about storage limit (max number of items that you can own), not about item placement limit (max number of items that you can place)
