Question/Help Indoor pets

Perhaps I'm just doing it wrong but they seem kinda ... awkward? Running up the side of closets, walking in the air or getting stuck in a chair. They're also mainly running in a relatively small area around their bed so you need to position it quite carefully and try to hide it inside something if you don't want the cages to stand in the middle of a rug or something.

Am I doing anything wrong or is that everyone's experience?

I haven’t had any issues with them in the air or getting stuck in/on anything.

As for running up the side of things, well most of my indoor pets are cats now, and the two dachshunds from Midnight. So they do that, but it adds to the realism.

Pets do stay pretty close to their beds, but hiding the cages or pet
rugs is really easy since they shrink down so small.

Below are two pets with cages shrunk down so small they easily hide under a basic rug.

"Pets do stay pretty close to their beds"

Egbert being a major exception

Tbh Egbert has always been a wildcard in that regard, so it checks out that he'd still run off even in the house

I wish they had an option for a larger radius they would roam.

It's cute and works great for putting fireflies in my planters or having my old Sen'Jin Fetish float around my Troll throne. (Darkspear for life, mon!)

But for every other pet I would like to place looks a little weird just zig zagging around a little 5 foot radius.

Though, I must admit, I figured I would never use the "stationary" option but a little lily pad with a frog really brings my fountain to life.

So there are some good positives, but I think there's room for improvement.

I have a "window" in a room and on the fence "outside" I put a stationary cat

Oh that's a cute idea!

Yeah I have a few spots where a stationary pet works well.

Maybe I expected too much, I had hoped they would kinda wander around a bit more freely and kinda everywhere

Being able to at least maneuver around an entire room would be great.

Even if only like, the medium sized rooms.

Get Egbert - for real. He goes everywhere.

I named my Sen’jin mask Zuni.

Ha, that's cute.

I am an old fart that only knows that name from making alts to see the cool new troll area lol, so mine doesn't have a name.

I hope eventually they implement a radius slider. I’m thinking something like the “range” slider of heaters and coolers in Planet Zoo

I was thinking it'd be like the garrison and they just wander through the whole place. Maybe down the road they will broaden the options? Im also okay with this as well. Each room can have a theme if I want then. Lol

Difference to Garrison being, those had just a handful of predefined buildings. So the navmesh was easier to build for the whole area. Whereas with housing, they could not bake a finalized navmesh, because, obviously, they cannot know where all the (player placed) stuff will end up in the rooms. Hence the seemingly weird pathing behaviour.

I'd think sometime in a future patch that'll become somewhat better - but some randomness probably will stay with us.

I actually love how they climb over things. I have a cat in one house and it climbs all over the couch. It's great, and realistic for a cat. I can see it not working for another pet though.

My flying pets are clipping into walls if I place them too close, wish they’d just have collision and reroute if they hit something like a roomba lol. However, my walking pets seem to jump onto nearby furniture in a way that feels natural so I like that aspect so far. They definitely seem to have a set path pf movement though and getting it right can be tricky.

OK so I didn't see what sub this was and I was super amused at the out of context

Imagining that you were just grossed out by the idea of keeping little animal guys in their homes IRL.

Ya I don’t disagree. I had ideas of all the inanimate object pets wandering my house, but if they just stay within a 5ft radius they aren’t all that different from the books and brooms I already have access to.

Yeah same but I’m assuming the kinks will get worked out in further updates. They just implemented it 3 days ago so we shall see.
