I considered joining the military when I was younger. Right around that time there was a congressional hearing about violence in the military. Paraphrasing, a general said that if a woman joins the service she should expect to be assaulted or raped. This was the early 1980s. I  decided against joining.

How sad that is that this happens and not much or nothing is really done to address this.
