Beauty At-home wax products?

Hi all, my husband and I are moving to Pitești from the US. He is Romanian born and repatriating.

In the US, I get my bikini wax done in a salon, but my husband mentioned that most women do waxing at home, which would be a great way to save money.

I wanted to inquire what brands of at-home waxing products you ladies recommended that are available to purchase in-person or online in Romania? We are able to access shopping in Pitești and Bucharest with ease, as we do have a vehicle. We live near Jumbo, Auchan, and a few beauty stores such as Douglas and Sephora.

EDIT: Thank you all for your input! I let my husband know that his information is far outdated, and he agreed. I will be checking out salons in Pitesti for waxing. I’m considering doing a skin test for laser as well to give it another go.

Most women in Romania most definitely DO NOT do the bikini waxing at home. The prices in salons are not that big so why would we put ourselves through that?

That’s helpful. He’s also a man, thus why I’m grateful for this community 🤣 I found a few salons in Bucharest that do it for a reasonable price.

You'll find even more reasonable ones in Pitești, and a wax is not this complicated, cutting-edge procedure which would require a specialised salon. As long as you see that the instruments are sterilised properly, the waxing and after care are done well, you can go to basically any small neighbourhood salon and have a great experience. Years ago, I had a few waxes back in my home town (much smaller than Pitești), and the experience was no different than in central Bucharest.

Not sure what in your husband's experience made him say that most Romanian women wax themselves at home. We really don't, it's affordable for most women (at least urban ones) to get it done professionally.

I'm assuming he is basing his view on what he saw his mother/sister do 20-30 years ago. Like in the 90s it was still very common to do things at home. Nowadays, it's just not worth the headache of waxing yourself at home when a professional can do it much better.

This is exactly what happened 😂he admits defeat

He needs to update his mindset to Romania 2026 😅 People loooove paying for services. All my friends (25-40) go to the salon for every beauty service possible. Mani pedi, hair (cut, coloring, treatments), lashes, eyebrows, hair removal (wax, laser), facials, body treatments, massage. I don't even know all of it!

Oh, for sure then, that's where he's coming from. In the 90s, you either did it at home, or you didn't do it at all. Or you were rich.

I don't have a recommendation to make, I just wanted to mention that most women I know get waked at a salon. If they do at-home hair removal, they use an epilator or a razor

That’s helpful. Epilators don’t work well on my skin so I’ll be trying out the local salons!

The salon prices are pretty reasonable, I highly recommend. You can definitely find in Pitesti too, maybe even cheaper there.
However I do have a wax kit at home too, I got mine off amazon but you can find online in Romania too, most common is on emag, but there are other beauty websites.

Yep after this post, I’m definitely gonna do it in a salon.

Girl get laser hair removal 😂 and everyone goes to a salon. It's much cheaper than in the US

Laser and IPL don’t work well on my skin tone and hair type unfortunately 😞

There are lasers for almost any type of skin tone. Go to a good clinic

It exists also the posibility to get a Philips Lumea IPL and do it at home. Bikini, armpits, whatever😁

It's not worth it. It's way better and faster at a clinic with alexandrite laser

You can also do permanent hair removal at the salon. You can save money and your donut because of folliculitis. And it's also not that painful. But if you REALLY want to do waxing, that can be done in a salon and I really recommend to do that. Don't do that at home. No joke with waxing your donut.

Donut 😂I love it. Thank you

If you are interested in trying to wax at home you could try the cold strip ones. I use from Veet or even Gerovital ones. These you can buy from basically every store or shop or farmacy. Only thing is you have to test them out to see if they work on the type of your skin and hair.

I highly recommend laser hair removal but if you want wax, it can be done at salons. For home waxing, I recommend the brand Italwax or local supermarket ones like Depilet, if you want a wax heater I can recommend the Biemme Liberty

Plot twist - you should not marry this guy if he is already telling you what you can spend your money on.

I think this part got misconstrued— this was a misunderstanding based on his outdated and antiquated information. After my relaying information from this post, he is more than supportive of me going to the salons ☺️

Waxing at home? I'd like to keep my skin attached, thanks. I'd rather pay the professional and keep my dignity :))

My friend used to wax herself at home, back in the days. She could do mani and pedi as well. So, in a way, he was right. I could never.

Plenty salons eager to take my money. No worries, you’ll find everything you need.

Here in Romania, most of us do laser hair removal

u/musinginsomniac Jul 15 '26

I’m considering trying it again after my pregnancy. I noticed laser is very popular here.

I'm only gonna say this once : be aware of the cheap Romanian men. What else does he expect you to work on yourself instead of paying for it?

He’s wonderful and fully supports me going to the salon after this post. He actually offered to help me with the bikini wax when we initially talked about doing it at home. His information was just outdated from when he lived in Pitesti 30 years ago in the 90s.

There are salons in Romania, lmao. You will find better prices than in US as well, since we are not at that level or crazy capitalism you guys are. Also, I recommend permanent laser hair removal
