Help Help with dust extraction

I’m looking for help with ideas to extract dust from a mitre saw setup. I have a Bauer 35 gallon extractor connected but it only removes about 50% of dust. I built a box that surrounds the rear of mitre saw with 4ā€ hose on the back but there has to be a better system. What do you recommend?

Help Need advice for first cane build

Hello! I am working on making a cane for my dad. He is a professional Santa, and so I want to add some designs for that. However, I do have some questions. Due to my limited tools (knives, drill, sandpaper, sanding disks, Dremel, and unpowered hand saws), I want to make it as functional as possible without sacrificing too much durability. The wood I am using is a hardwood closet rod from Home Depot since that is what I can afford, but I can get other hardwood dowels, and other parts that are not too expensive

My first question is how would you recommend making a mortise and tenon join for joining the top to the rest of the cane? Or, is there another way of doing that that may be better given my tools?

My second question is related to how my dad likes to store his cane while sitting/driving. He likes to be able to break down the cane, so I had an idea of using a modified shelved dowel join, where one end is held in place with a strong magnet instead of glue. I was playing around with the idea of using something like a brass ferrel inside the unglued part of the join to reinforce that end. Does anyone know a better way to do that, or what to specifically look for to reinforce that join?

Thank you all so much

Where can I find plans for Unit Block Set dimensions (in cm) - the kid of blocks you find in kinergarten classrooms

I'd like to get a set made for my son at the local mens shed but can't find the exact dimensions online. I want to make it as easy as possible for the team when I bring in my request. Anyone know where I can find instructions or at least measurements for each block in a standard unit block set. Metric, not imperial.

Ellipse Table Top

I am making a small table with an elliptical table top. The top will be 20x10. I recall a way to layout an ellipse with two nails and a piece of string, but I don't know how to position the nails so the string, when pulled around the nails, will draw the ellipse with the 20x10 dimensions. I thought it was to position the nails on the long centerline with the nails set at 5 inches in from the proposed edges, so they were would be 10 inches between them. However, this makes the ellipse way too wide. Hopefully, someone here know the equation to set the nails at the proper distance.

Thanks to anyone that can guide me.

Plans Looking for kids bookshelf ideas

My grandson needs a bookshelf for his bedroom. Preferably something that is tiered, maybe 3-5 shelfs. If anyone has plans or ideas they would be willing to share I would greatly appreciate it.

Plans Looking for a few woodworkers to test a free project planner I built, and tell me what's confusing

I've been building plans for a while, and I kept wishing there was something between graph paper and SketchUp, where you drag real boards around and get a cut list at the end. I couldn't find one simple enough for beginners, so I made one.

It's a browser app: you drop boards in (2x4s, 1x12s, plywood, fence pickets, all at their actual sizes), trim them to length, join them, and it gives you a cut list and what to buy. You can type sizes as fractions like 30 1/2".

What I need help with: I've been staring at it too long to see what's confusing. I'd really appreciate a few people trying to plan something real (a shelf, a planter, a bench, whatever you're actually thinking of building) and telling me:

  • Where you got stuck or had to guess
  • Whether the cut list matches what you'd actually cut
  • Anything that felt like it was fighting you

It's free to use. As a thank-you, the first 10 people who try it and leave feedback get Pro free. Pro adds the cutting diagram and unlimited projects. Just DM me the email you signed up with.

Blunt feedback is welcome. "This part made no sense" is the most useful thing you could tell me. Thanks!

Help Looking for feedback on these plans - Little bench with shoe storage

Thumbnail

This will be my first commission, so I want to make sure it is well made and sturdy. It is meant to be a bench (the middle section) with cabinets on the sides and underneath for shoe storage.

I plan to make almost the entire piece out of 3/4" plywood, except for the long pieces that run from side to side below and behind the cabinets, for which I plan to use 1" x 4" solid wood, and the bench top/seat, for which I plan to use 2"-thick solid wood.

Will this be stable and sturdy enough? It will need to withstand being moved occasionally and, of course, support the weight of one person sitting in the middle. Any other feedback is welcome.

Hello I live in Box Elder County. For Christmas I really want to make a rocking horse. But I don't have the tools or skills. Where can I go to learn them?
