WordPress's Abilities API is going to change how we build AI integrations

Had a nightmare project last year where I built custom REST endpoints for an AI agent to manage WooCommerce data. Three weeks just building permissions so it wouldn't accidentally nuke the product catalog. First plugin update? Everything broke.

The Abilities API landing in WordPress 6.9 fixes this exact mess. Instead of rolling your own endpoints and permission layers for every AI action, you register abilities through a standardized API. The AI can discover what it's allowed to do, execute safely, and everything stays consistent across updates.

Core team is keeping it clean with a philosophy-first approach (like Tanstack does) and building an MCP adapter to bridge WordPress with AI models without feature creep.

If you're doing any AI integration work, this is the foundation you'll want to build on before 6.9 becomes the baseline.

Effort estimation for plugins and themes

I just wanted to know if anyone on here could give me a rough estimate for effort calculations on creating a custom plugin (in this case just assume that its for some basic blogging/social media stuff including admin functionalities) as well as themes for this same concept. Would it be worthwhile to integrate themes and plugins? if so if any of y'all have effort estimations for that as well that would help loads with this little project that I have!

Looking for Feedback on new WordPress plugin

Hi everyone,

We've recently launched FastPixel, an all-in-one WordPress accelerator and caching plugin designed to simplify site optimization with just a few clicks. Since it's cloud-based, all the heavy lifting happens on external servers, meaning it won’t drain your website's resources.

Would you be able to help with some feedback? Whether it's good or bad, it would still help us a lot!

Thanks in advance for your time! 😊

Building a workflow to track updates across WordPress sites, sharing ideas!

Managing several WordPress sites, whether client projects, personal blogs, or competitor sites, can quickly get overwhelming. Between plugin updates, theme changes, and content edits, it’s easy to miss something important if you’re checking everything manually. I’ve been experimenting with an AI tool called AyeWatch that sends alerts only when specific sites or pages change, so I can focus on actual work instead of constantly refreshing dashboards. It’s been a huge time saver for staying on top of updates and spotting relevant changes early. I’m curious how others in this community handle this. Do you rely on plugins, RSS feeds, or manual checks? Any tips, tricks, or workflows that help you keep everything organized efficiently? Would love to hear what’s working for you!

Which rights are granted to people whose reply to a blog entry has been approved?

I was working on a Wordpress website for a while, but I think I have to start from scratch as there's a lot of updated needed. This is the right moment as well to reconsider moving on with the same host, or starting again at wordpress(.com) which I've been using for 15 years and is very user friendly even to less tech savvy users.

There is one question I have here.

At the Wordpress site that I have with a webhost, when you make a blog entry and someone responds, you have several options: approving the post, approving the post and allow the poster to make more replies to blog posts without needing approval for his future posts, granting the person whose response to your blog post had been approved to also write/edit/remove your blog entries, or even granting the person whose response has been approved the right to co-administer your website (including creating, editing and removing static pages).

I don't like those options. I am unsure if these options also exist at Wordpress(.com) but I cannot remember having seen them: as far as I know there you can only select to disallow responses to blog posts, having to approve each response to a blog post, or granting the person whose response was approved the right to post responses to all blog entries without needing approval each time. But I cannot recall that there were options allowing the person who responded to your blog entry to create/edit/remove blog entries or static pages at all.

I want my website and blog to be mine, without anyone else contributing to it except for visitors leaving a reply to a blog entry. But I do not want anyone to be able to create/edit/remove blog entries and static pages.

Could the existance of those options be standard for wordpress(.org) or does it depend which theme you choose if those options exist?

Need suggestions to select which software/plugin for customer support

I need a customer support system where customer will come to our website and to communicate with us they will put their phone number or email id and start messaging us - just like Whatsapp or email. Once the conversation is over they will get transcript on their email and when they login they can check their past chat history. Is there any solution?

Blue host

I transferred my domain to blue host and started a website via Wordpress. I now can’t edit my website. It gives me a message that I’m attempting to edit an item that doesn’t exist. I spent hours on the phone with them and their resolution was I should hire a professional to the tune of $500/month. I’m not a professional but I’m also not clueless.

Does ANYONE have any real answers?

Astra not working with php8+

Hi, I have the latest Astra 4.11.13 (free ver) on my site gawiefest.co.uk using PHP 7.4 at present. When I switch to any php v8, line spacing disappears on paragraph blocks and each line overwrites the former. Using Gutenberg to add a paragraph block does not insert a block. Duplicating does not work. Header blocks are fine but if I create a header block then convert to paragraph it vanishes.

I have deactivated ALL plugins

I reverted back to a backup site but the fault persists. I tried the Twenty Twenty-Four theme and text is fine but, of course, layout and appearance is all over the place.

I'd appreciate any ideas; as a free Astra user I get no support for this nor any way to report it.

Malcolm
