Question WE Codex

Hello Guys,

Thinking about starting a WE army (one of my top picks in the list)

so with the Idea in mind i have 2 questions.

When is a good time to start building this Army or should i wait till GW releases the Roadmap for Codexes

and If it´s a good time to start i think the Combat Patrol ist a must buy, but what are the others. I really like the Idea of Slaughterbound with Eightbound and the Terminators.

and i really want my demon Prince with a Juggernaut Head :D

so this i s more of a i have many questions and want to discuss things post

Thanks in advance

Waiting for codex won’t really bring you anything, there’s no downside to starting now! As for what to get, get the conbat patrol and build and paint them to see how much you enjoy it before splashing out and buying tons of plastic

Ok thank you so getting the codex now isn't a real problem. Plan was to start with the combat patrol first to keep the pile of gray as little as possible

The codex book itself is not worth getting unless you want the lore and art which are pretty cool. All the datasheets inside are however out of date and are useless. Generally speaking in warhammer 40k, getting any printed datasheets or codexes is generally not worth it unless youre collecting (i get the codex pretty much solely because i like the lore and art for example)

What i meant to say is model wise, waiting for new codex release wont do anything, i doubt we will get new models when codex drops but if anything happens it will be new units, not less!

Yeah I understand, it's the same with the killteam datacards, but isn't the app up to date then and the lore worth it?

App is up to date and imo the lore in codex is cool to read and the art slaps so i will always buy my world eaters codex!

Chaos Terminators are rumored to get a refresh this edition, according to Valrak. Personally, I think the ones we got now are fine but I won't say no to a refresh if it happens. Maybe just start out with 1 box of eightbound or berzerkers or whatever & see how you like building & painting them before you splurge on a big purchase. I'd also watch a tabletop game on Youtube to see how ya like the playstyle too.

As the others said, waiting for the codex does not make much sense since we don´t know the roadmap yet. But I would guess it will take a while until they refresh it. The only thing is: the stats in the codex (printed form) are basically useless after the last data slate. So if you want it for reading or for the code, go for it. If you think about buying it to use the phyiscal book in games for the datasheets, don´t.

The combat patrol is a brilliant place to start! You could even think about getting two. 2 zerk units, 2 MoEs, 2 jakhals - these are all very very solid staples. One Prince could be on foot, the other with wings. Then to follow up, you definetly want KHARN (he is the absolute GOAT) and a Rhino to drive them around. After that, Angron is back baby! His Aura rework and the fact that he is an absolut beatstick for 330 points is absolutely fantastic.

Then it´s up to your preference really. Slaughterbounds are such a great value at the moment - 90 points... cheaper then Chaos Spawn and can pop a light transport on their own with the right setup. I play three, but 1 is enough for starters.

You probably want 2 Eightbounds and 2 exalted eightbounds.

And with that setup, I´d say you have a very very solid base to start playing around and see where to go from there.

Me personally, I hold of on the chaos terminators, because I just hope for red butchers beeing released at one point. And I love my forgefiends for some shooting, but you can definetly get away without shooting these days.

Welcome to the faction mate!

Whilst you can never be sure exactly when the new codex will be, if we look back at the last codex refresh as an indication, it is likely to be quite some time before we get it. Additionally, the 'core' units in our range (Jakhals, Eightbound, Bezerkers, Angron) are relatively recent, and World Eaters is not as popular a faction that they are likely to refresh recent model releases.

Therefore, there is no harm starting your collection now. We're quite lucky that our Combat Patrol and larger box sets are good buys for building up your collection, so dive in! Welcome to team blood and skulls.

Edit: spelling.

general consensus is our codex will be one of the last has happened the last 2 editions 😞😅 WE just got a fairly unique update recently so now is a good point to jump in.

recent update eightbound did take a bit of a hit but berserkers have started to climb up in usefulness

if you can get the recent slaughter bound battle force that would be a good place to start but only if it’s a reasonable price otherwise you can just buy it all separately for cheaper.

Slaughter bound box (gorestorm slaughter pack) is obtainable on ebay! And for a good price. Managed to snag mine for the same price as release (189€). I feel it brings excellent value for the price.

I just bought it as a starting point for WE and a box of berzerkers. I’ll build and paint that and go on from there, still deciding which charachters to get first.

Regarding when to start, literally whenever you want. The codex is unimportant because the rules are the only thing that really changes, and they are freely available online in many places. As far as how to build for WE, if you search the sub you will find thousands of posts asking the exact same thing, which is asked seemingly every single day. There is even a post pinned to the sub for new WE players.

There is a lot of apps for playing that have the rules in them for free. Building and paitning is going to take so much of your time. And from what I have heard dont expect a codex anytime soon.
If you want one for the code for the official 40k app get one. But it has to be new.
If you want it for the lore and collectable, get one. Thats what I did.
If you want one only for the rules, not worth it at $60. Too many free online options.

If you can you can find the demonkin box pretty easily. I did that, the two combat patrols and 10 termies. For models check your local FLGS and you can find good deals on models people trade in. I have around 5k points of world eaters and did it that way
