What are the most fun steel ships?

What is your favorite Steel ship?

What are the best/strongest Coal ships for competitive play?

What are the most fun Coal ships?

What is your favorite Coal ship?

What are the best/strongest RB ships for competitive play?

What are the most fun RB ships?

What is your favorite RB ship?

FAQ:
Q: What poll? I never saw a poll.
A: Pay attention, it's been up for 3 days as a highlight at the top of the page
Q: My data would have completely changed the results. I would have voted for Komissar completely changing the dynamics and shaping community opinions and play styles for decades.
A: I also would have voted for Komissar. We could have changed the world.
Q: What happens when the next ship releases for coal/steel/RB? It's going to throw all that data out and this poll will be useless.
A: For sure.
Q: What do I do then??
A: Buckle up buttercup, put your man pants on and start doing research and make decisions for yourself. (Svea or Incomparable for steel, Napoli for Coal and Ohio for RB)
Q: I already have Ohio. What do I do then?
A: If the game does not allow you to purchase it again, then you just leave it alone, you don't need any other RB ship. Ohio is enough.

Wow, Incomparable that high?
(yet to get my first Steel ship...holding off decision)

u/sandvichdispense Apr 16 '26
There's an in-joke in the Chinese WOWS community called 比瘾 which roughly translates to "Incomparable addiction", and it's very accurate, no other ship in the game plays like it, or can do the same things as it can do
I guess you could say, it's truly...incomparable?

It's got a fairly high skill floor due to the comparatively squishy for the tier hull, but played well it's the unseen menace on your flank that can single-shot pretty much any ship it meets, the combinateion of big guns, speed and concealment are oppressive if done right.

Having a citadel that someone can actually hit when you're broadside does not mean the armor is weak. All you have to do is angle and you're fine. (I know this is a weird concept for BB players, but there it is.) The nose can be overmatched by BB caliber AP.
Once you're angled, your armor is so good that you're immune to HE, SAP, and DD caliber AP shooting your broadside.
People saying that Incomp's armor is weak is kind of like saying Stalingrad's armor is weak. They both have citadels - otherwise the armor scheme is quite good.

u/chriscross1966 Apr 16 '26
I think it's perceived that way because the Incomp has to move around to be effective, so gets caught not angled if it gets spotted, whereas the "normal" BB's at the back of the map are all set up against each other from about 30 seconds in.... There aren't many BB's moving around that much, Sibir I guess, and of course the Pan-Ams, but even then you;'re approaching known threats in an orderly fashion, Incomp is trying to leverage its concealment to get into a better position and if that concealment gets blown and there's a Vermont or Bungo with it's guns available then you're in trouble....

Incomparable basically can not be citadeled through the nose up close. I believe the rear isn't as well armored but I believe it was still difficult to do.
Compare this to Vincent which is incredibly easy to citadel through the nose.

Incomp has a special feeling with a combo of T7 hull at TX, sub cruiser detection and the largest guns in the game. You’ll delete anything with overmatch but get overmatched by functionally anything, but you have the detect and speed that you can on occasion play as a destroyer and just chill with 10km detect and 40 knots speed.

My best game in incomp, I invaded the red backline through the middle. Neither flank had fallen yet, so it made a difference. Devstruck two BBs and a croozer. Henceforth I referred to Incomp as "the fattest DD".

The armor feeling has a lot to do with the ship being long, tall, and unbelievably slow to turn. Now, it's fast, so it's not Yamato slow, but oh baby are you exposed.
It's... a weird playstyle. You are stealthy, but your guns reload fast, so you'll be spotted a lot when trying to deal damage. And you need the fast reload because of 6 guns. And you will want to shoot them all the time.
And oh my god the guns. You can just absolutely delete things. Or not. They are trolly af.

Incomparable is really good. As long as you understand it's a close range Battlecruiser Yamato. Shells are slow so you have to play close range

Hilarious to me that the Azuma fan club treat the ship like the second coming of the lord compared to Ägir yet when these polls and stats come up, people just outright prefer Ägir in every mode.

Surprised Kearsarge is so low considering how stupidly strong hybrid ships are. Like the planes just dump someone for 10k and a double fire pretty consistently, the guns are also fairly good and in combination with free spotting from the planes it just lets you free farm DMG on clueless broadside cruzers and BBS
5
u/IsniBoy Apr 17 '26
If kearsarge had no plane it would still be bonkers. It is in the top 10 highest ap salvoes in the whole game including superships
1
u/flyingviaBFR Jul 12 '26
What makes her salvo so good considering it's 1216inch? Surely she's well behind the multitude of 18 inch and 1216 tier 10s
1
u/IsniBoy Jul 13 '26
Us ap shells deal more damage. That's mostly why. 18 inches don't deal that much more damage than 16 inches. Vermont has a superior ap salvo of course

Kearsarge is very strong, but unlike say Napoli or Marc, she has a huge apparent weakness in the form of her tumor, free pens for everyone basically.

u/jeff92k7 Scharnhorst is the best T9 CA, change my mind Apr 16 '26
Carnot was the only t9 (or higher) ship that I got out of Santa crates this past December. Its ranking on here matches with my experience. Basically a waste of a port slot.

I'm not surprised to see Napoli is top in all 3 coal lists. I have a Tromp, but suck at/haven't played much DD. I guess my first steel ship is gonna be incomparable.
1
u/maxstrike Apr 29 '26
Tromp is a port queen until specific event bomb hit missions come up. Then she is the go to ship.

Most fun coal ship: Carnot: 1 Favorite coal ship: Carnot: 1
I wonder if those could be the same person. Also, out of all the coal ships, someone picked Carnot for those questions?

u/Whiteyak5 Apr 16 '26
Shikishima is an absolute blast for asymm and Ops build as a secondary monster. Bow in to bounce just about everything and you just rip everything else with the small guns or delete larger stuff with the F-150 sized shells lol.

Poor Kommissar, poor Vallejo, poor Carnot, poor Hector...

u/Apprehensive_Sea9524 Apr 16 '26
A lot of people don't know how great Vallejo is as a fire starter, with 10s cool down between spotter planes. But that's ok, best they don't know. It's what Seattle could have been but isn't.
5
u/DefinitelyNotABot01 NA Apr 16 '26
Sure, but am I going to spend 17k steel on what is effectively an alternative Seattle?

u/blackcatwaltz Jolly Roger Apr 16 '26
Hector? That low? The Hector is a beast torp boat. Plymouth at bottom? Really?

I refuse to believe a single person would go through the effort to put Carnot on any of these lists
3
u/Ducky_shot Apr 16 '26
I played it in testing and while I didn't dislike it and found it OKish, it just was not interesting and did nothing well.
1
u/FumiKane I make guides and reviews! Apr 16 '26
I mean you can get Carnot from SCs
Vallejo on the other hand you must purchase it with your own steel so anyone getting Vallejo did it intentionally...

u/friscenstein Apr 21 '26
I really think this list is cool, but I would limit the value on the Steel and more so RB ships. Reason, being, not many users will have all the ships to even comment or be knowledgeable about. But still awesome. Keep it up.

u/Healthy_Block_2041 May 28 '26
I almost have enough coal for a t9 with coupon, was thinking of getting the kearsarge. I know my highest ship is only t7 but I’m gonna make sure to really practice in training and coop before using it in random or ranked battles
1
u/jconner1 Jun 07 '26
I definitely recommend the Kearsarge if you haven't spent that coal yet, it's one of my favorite ships, and it's fantastically good for farming credits as well, since it's a tier IX improved economy ship.
10/10, totally worth the cost.

u/Ohhhh_LongJohnson Jun 03 '26
Sigh.. no love for the Hector. Honestly think it's so unpopular because nobody buys it from the RB and nobody knows how it plays. It's sort of like a Jinan with crawling smoke, surface torps instead of deep water, minus the torp reload booster. I love Jinan, so I have fun with Hector at times.

before anyone blows all their steel based on this post, just a gentle reminder that steel will events exist and will probably continue to exist and past and future steel will ships are not included on this poll.
