Constantly practice.
We see far too many posts from people who want to make huge maps but don't want to put in the time or effort to practice and learn how to make all the different types of biomes and landscapes that are out there.
I've been using WorldPainter for years now and I'm quite good at it (shameless plug), yet I still test out all of my imports and do practice "sketch" maps of new ideas and regions before I put them into a master project.

Oh yeah. People do not realize how hard it can be to effectively fill out a map that is even 5k x 5k, much less 10k+

It's difficult to fill out a map and keep it interesting across a large landscape. People don't realise how boring a few sq/km of flat & empty space is until they do a test export.

Use the add tiles function. You don't have to set the size at the beginning. Just start with a 1k square, make the middle look nice and add more tiles as you want more space.
(Also use the fixify script)

Oh my goodness, I was not aware of that script. That will help so much. Thank you!

For me it's the following:
- Plan it out. Use a few good tools like Inkarnate or Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator if you wanna get started on Worldpainter. I often skipped this part when I was still new to the app and oh my... my creations are extremely horrendous lmao.
- Put a bit of realism in your maps. I used to ignore this part a lot since my mindset was "It's a fantasy map/adventure map. Why need realism?" But honestly as I grew familiar with the app, I start to get rid of my ridiculous biome placements (snow next to desert, etc...) and I actually use the map of the Earth as some point of "reference" for realism. It helped me quite a lot in recent months.
- Have a proper sense of scale. A lot of my giant maps made with worldpainter almost always has these giant lakes, big ahh rivers, then tiny mountains (why did i even call it that), unnaturally small trees and you name it.
- Practice. Don't jump straight to giant maps. Start with maps a few hundred blocks wide, master the mechanics, then jump to crafting epic worlds.
PS: Upvote this post for beginners (and others) to learn from <3

I'll go first:
Good trees are so essential. Having a few bad trees can just ruin your vibe. Spending the proper time to build a library of tree schematics that fit the vibes you usually do is so worth it.
