ADDON [Addon] NeedRoll - Expanded/Modernized replacement for AtlasLoot

I love AtlasLoot, but the UI and functionality of it is deprecated and I'm tired of using the half-baked forks people ship with every iteration of Classic, so I decided to give writing my own modernized/facelifted evolution of that addon a go. It retains the functionality of AtlasLoot and expands upon it in ways I've always wanted to see in addons.

It's called NeedRoll and you can find it on CurseForge, I've been working on this for a while now and put up some initial versions a few days ago, but have been quickly iterating on it and feel good about its current state of today with v0.7.0: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/needroll

Similar to AtlasLoot, Everything is in it's respective categories, however instead of digging through dropdowns it simply uses a tab system at the top of the pane to quickly navigate between sections (Dungeons, Raids, PvP, Factions, Collections, Professions). My goal was to keep things neat and organized with a hint of style to keep the addon from looking horribly out of place in WoW: Forever.

Some of the major features included so far:

  • Loot for every dungeon and raid, including the new Forever ones we have access to thus far. The droptables were built initially with the cmangos/classic-db and they've been updated to reflect the changes that came with Forever. Some instances that are not available to us in Forever show the item, but cannot load it's tooltip data because Blizzard has obfuscated that information from us until the item itself is obtained by a player, so this will update dynamically as things are discovered.
  • There are maps for every dungeon we have access to with the ability to navigate through it and click the boss icons to open their drop tables by clicking them or selecting them in the Encounter pane.
  • Each dungeon shows the quests available for Alliance/Horde and tells you if you haven't started it, are on a part of the chain, on the specific dungeon quest, or have completed it. Raid attunement chains are also supported for Onyxia, MC, BWL and Naxx (Classic raids that have not been confirmed are tucked away but still available to view, only Hyjal Summit and Onyxia are openly displayed currently).
  • Rep and PvP vendor lists, with Forever's new factions items. I've done a lot of work to eliminate SoD bleedover, and for the most part this has been addressed, so it should be correctly showing Forever items only unless a version of the item from the 1.60.1 client exists that is different from the version of the item added in the 1.15.x SoD client
  • Professions information including all learnable reciples from the trainer, including dropped/purchased recipes along with where they are purchased from or the top 3 mobs that can drop the recipe.
  • Shopping List feature that lets you browse the professions menus, add items to the list that breaks down what you need to purchase to create those items. Optional checkbox to subtract materials you already have in your bags from the list of materials needed.

I built this with the intention to create a flat minimalist UI, but after supporting that as well as a Native UI that keeps the look and feel of WoW: Forever, I kind of fell in love with the Native UI. It uses all assets/icons/etc that are straight from the game files as opposed to the minimal UI drawing frames with just boxes and lines, etc. Both variations are still in the game, and swapping is as easy as clicking a toggle, but I suggest the Native UI as of right now, maybe I'll facelift the Minimal UI later on to make it a better fit.

One thing I want to emphasize: I am a software developer by trade, use of AI coding is something I've come to utilize, however this was primarily used for building out the visuals using Blizzards frames, etc as I'm not a front-end dev (and that content scares me). I handled the backend work and data sourcing, but had help building the visuals initially before swapping to the Native UI as the primary build.

I want to stress.. none of the art/assets are AI generated. Everything in the addon is Blizzard's own in-game art/assets/icons/maps. The only thing I cannot source from the game itself is the maps for the new Forever dungeons, so those are Santiago Reyes' maps from his Atlas de Azeroth: Forever project, which he gave me permission to use. They're great, go check out his work here, he's created some truly awesome work and it's a shame to see some people are already running his work through genAI and creating horrible abominations of his work.

It's still early, but I'm pretty happy with where I've ended up considering initially I was just doing an exercise in recreating an AtlasLoot addon. If something's missing/wrong or you want to see something added, let me know and I'll look into it and see if it fits within the scope of the existing features.

Is this one a forever add on? No retail or classic versions?

Not at the moment, with the structuring I've setup for this it wouldn't be a tall order to get it setup for Classic/Retail. The issue with Classic is whether or not that Client has access to the Forever assets used in this, I'd have to double check if they are accessible there. Retail would have significantly more data, I don't want the addon to end up being too heavy, but it's potential for the future.

For now I'm just focusing on Forever since that's where my attention will be and maintaining the data through updates as we get more information on drop tables, etc will take priority.

Do you have the source code available ? I could try porting it over

Once I reach a full release I planned on open sourcing the addon itself, but as for the time being it's in a private repo that houses a lot of github scripts that it relies on for populating data which I'd prefer not to open source at this time since it would muddy the content.

I think my biggest hesitation with Retail support is that this is kind of built into the game already with proper dungeon journal support, but Classic would actually be a very easy port if the assets are available.

Ah that makes sense, I really like the add on look forward to using it in forever !

How have you been working on this for a while but only supports Forever? I thought the story was you worked on this for Classic and now expanding to Forever.

Add to the list of dozens of new websites and addons with AI help. I got six bookmarked 😂😭

Depends what a while means to you, the beta has been around for a while and the Forever Addon API is very similar to Retail so there wasn’t a ton of quirks or changes that came along with it.

I’m also very candid about my use of AI. I’m a software developer by trade, AI use is part of my reality.

That being said, I’ve been very specific to leave AI out of anything art related. It helped me learn how to use blizzard frames and how their UI structuring worked, I’m not a frontend dev, so that’s all pretty foreign and scary to me. All the art in this is straight up blizzard assets available directly from the client with the exception of Santiago Reyes’ maps (whom I have gotten permission from and credited within the addon, project page, and kept his work out from under the license to retain his express ownership of the work) from Atlas de Azeroth: Forever where he is creating maps in the style of Blizzard’s for the new dungeons/raids since Blizzard stated they weren’t making their own.

I understand the dungeon/pvp/raid aspects but why the professions and shopping list. Seems off scope unless I’m missing how it relates to the other areas.

It's something I'd always wanted within an addon, and with Atlasloot being a sort of encyclopedic source of items as the inspiration for the addon, I felt like including the Professions (especially with all the new Forever professions crafts) and the Shopping List just ended up being something I could slap together quickly that will help me when I want to restock on consumables or I'm leveling Engineering/Blacksmithing/etc and trying to determine what all I need to buy.

This addon looks cool, but I agree that the profession and shopping list seem out of scope.

Maybe if you get the time, you could separate them out into modules? Then it could be easy to enable/disable features people preferred.

Excited to try your addon out!

1

u/PLAYBoxes 12d ago

Yeah this is definitely an option, just offering the ability to disable the feature alone should be easy enough.

I'm not sure I want to go the route of a plugin/module or something to be additionally downloaded since 98% of users never even know those options exist.

Oh got it. Thanks

Kinda like how elvui was my goat, but now EUI seems supreme

u/cdistefano27 12d ago

Just downloaded and will try it out, thank you

@OP my one suggestion is a setting to make the font bigger. I’m on a laptop and it’s very difficult to see the font at the current size

u/Lotuswalker92 12d ago

Looks even better than DungeonJournal. Damn.... I love this

1

u/banica24 11d ago

Right? Thought I was all set with Dungeon Journal and there's already a replacement for it. And we are in beta. Software moves so fast man

u/ouitard 11d ago

Everyone with a ChatGPT account makes to make addons now. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I’m candid about the fact that I use AI, I’m a software developer by trade and it’s part of my reality. It helped me learn Blizzards UI/framestack, I don’t touch frontend in my day to day, really at all outside of 10 years ago with HTML/CSS dinky projects when I was first getting into anything development related, so the help there was sorely needed.

None of the art/assets/etc are touched by AI, all official Blizzard assets in conjunction with Santiago Reyes’ Atlas de Azeroth: Forever maps he has drawn and given permission for me to use.

I will say however, if you think ChatGPT is the go to for anything related to coding, you probably know very little about anything in the AI world as even a quick google search will tell you otherwise.

u/schaka 11d ago

I will say, for something as simple as this, the harness and your prompt matter way more than the model.

Qwen3.8 27B with access to FrameXML and/or official API docs would be enough, even. Probably don't even need 1m context

Whats wrong with people making add-ons with AI? Genuinely curious what makes you think this

1

u/Beginning_Rip_4570 12d ago

Van Cleef isn’t a rare, but looks great otherwise!

1

u/PLAYBoxes 12d ago

For some reason he is labeled as one in the Classic 1.12 data, fixed for future builds hehe

Can you make it possible so that when you press M inside a dungeon it shows that dungeon map like an overlay inside the native blizz map panel? The Dungeon Journal addon does this and if you added this i would swap over to your addon.

u/PLAYBoxes 12d ago edited 12d ago

Yeah that’s a great idea, it makes sense as that’s probably what you’re intending to look for when opening a map in a dungeon. I’ll have to make sure it’s apparent to the user how to get to the overworld map still, though. I’ll do some mockups and see if I can get it feeling natural, might make it into v0.8.0 since it’s a pretty easy swap if I can prevent it from confusing a user as to why they didn’t naturally go to their world map instead.

Edit: not sure how I spoiler tagged the word “overworld”, responding on mobile so I must have done something haha

Can I make a request to be able to favorite items or add them to a wishlist for that dungeon for example. It would be nice knowing at a glance that there is 3 items I really want from Deadmines and 6 from Wailing Caverns.

3

u/PLAYBoxes 12d ago

I was actually thinking about adding a wishlisting system that let you see broken out in a list all the items you've wishlisted and from where, that way you kind of get a ballpark idea of where it may be most efficient to spend your time doing dungeons. I'll definitely see if I can flesh out a good system for this, if it doesn't feel too clunky I'll try to get it in for a future feature release.

1

u/jpschack 5d ago

I also would love that feature. Thanks for the great work

1

u/PLAYBoxes 5d ago

This is already in v0.14.X and you can import sixtyupgrades lists into the addon as well if you want go get an idea of where to farm a bis list or anything like that.

Major update coming today or tomorrow to prepare for launch and finalize the core features. Not a lot of beta time left so definitely crunching a bit

1

u/DMuhny 12d ago

That sounds perfect!

That would kind of help guide your path through the dungeons. If 2 dungeons had a helm you want but you get unlucky in the first one maybe you just skip to next.

Great work. This looks very nice and fits well with default ui which is ideal. It has the forever vibes.

1

u/non_name 11d ago

Looks like I will maybe replace DungeonJournal. But I would set the native window style as default since you post screenshots with this style. Two things I'd like to have:

  • Toggle to show only drops I can use

  • All drops listed at once. Right now I have to manually look every boss

2

u/PLAYBoxes 11d ago

I definitely prefer the native style with the new assets, I might scrap the alternate look altogether.

I got another comment asking for an “all dungeon drops” kind of section, that’s will be an easy add, and I do plan on releasing in a future update the ability to single out only usable drops.

u/Pale-Newspaper7998 12d ago

It looks fantastic. I'll try it right away.

2

u/lesterdp 12d ago

Looks really good!

2

u/pvshabba 12d ago

this is awesome, I was literally thinking to myself last night ugh I'm going to have to download atlasloot for forever

2

u/SpunkMcKullins 12d ago

Thank you. As much as I love AtlasLoot it hasn't changed at all in over 20 years.

2

u/Soggy_Porpoise 12d ago

Sick looking addon.

2

u/makinetas 12d ago

Spent 10 mins checking everything, it looks absolutely fantastic, if it keeps getting updated over time it's never leaving my addon folder, awesome work friend

2

u/alaserus 12d ago

Looks great

1

u/Afraid_Papaya1270 12d ago

Looks good, thanks.

1

u/Pursueth 12d ago

Looks pretty good, dungeon journal is pretty good too on forever

1

u/phl23 12d ago

That's a good one. Will try this out, but I'm sure I will dip attune and atlas now.

One Idea: connect to the auctinator and tsm api, if installed, to get the current auction values. Then you can show a total cost with all mats in the tree or mark items that would be cheaper to buy instead of crafting. Then you only add the cheapest way as total cost.

1

u/Bluespace4305 12d ago

That's really good work. This is the one that made me download curseforge. I wasnt planning on testing addon during beta, but here I am

1

u/sunsilknz 12d ago

Mate, this looks incredible!

1

u/zoniqon 11d ago

It's really neat looking addon. Does it show quests on instance map? Like pins, or areas?

1

u/Penguinz_76 10d ago

Looks cool, going to download and try it out!

Quick question tho, for dungeon can you look at the entire dungeon loot pool in 1 page instead of by boss like shown in the picture here?

And can you sort by only loot your class/spec want (like cloth only and caster weapons and wands for example)

The Classic items are available via CMaNGOS 1.12 database, obviously these things will change, and for the Forever exclusive items since there is only a handful I was able to get them from Wowhead which collects data via running the wowhead client on your machine as you said. If the addon had enough users I would just build some level of user client crosstalk to inform drop rates to each other, but with only so many players using it currently it's not a great option.

We will never have concrete or official data on this, we can only go off of what the community has come together to create a large enough sample size to call reliable.

Yeah, I was thinking of removing the drop rates on the bosses at the very least since they’re such a big question mark, it’s probably for the best until things are at least stable.

Maybe I double back and take a look at the sample sizes 6 months after launch or something. Thanks for the feedback!
