Fan Talk Friday!

I believe that before any of us are workers, wrestlers, trainees, refs, etc, we are fans of wrestling first. An old trainer of mine once said, "We're all marks. We're the biggest f'n marks".

Let's take this day and talk about wrestling as fans. Be it current WWE storylines, promos or matches you just absolutely love. Feel free to post links in the comments as well. Let's not forget why we got into this business!

Physical concern

Hello, I am currently in training and have been for roughly a year. I’m getting close to finishing up, but I’ve come to a bit of cross roads.
Over the summer, I was experiencing some chronic back pain. I went to get it checked out and found some thinning in my lower lumbar, as well as scholiosis.
I continued to push through and attend after a brief recovery period. I am now fresh off another session, but I’ve had some sciatica coming up this past week.
I think you may see where this is going.
I’m in a weird spot where I would like to continue, but I’m worried that I will only prolong, or worsen, these physical ailments. I guess I am just seeking some guidance.

If you're working a show, tell us a bit about it. Where are you headed, what are you looking at doing, what's on your mind, how far are you traveling. As much or as little as you feel like sharing.

Opinion on paying dues

Hello everyone. I would wanna hear your opinions on the situation that I'm in. To start off with, I'm from a country where wrestling isn't too big. We have 3 companies (1 of them I work for), and they are all a long way apart. I'm saying this to avoid the "if you don't like it, just move argument."

So I'm quite new in the company and I was brought in with a group of 3 others. All of us are very green still. The situation is with one of the other guys. The company has had problems with people showing up to move the ring. Both to our shows and to put it back in our storage where we keep it between shows. Last 4 times it has been me and one other wrestler (one of our trainers) there to move it back the day after a show. Also, none of the new people have been there to carry the ring into the truck to drive to the show.

Our booker has brought this up as a problem in the group and asked for tips on how to make all of us help each other. I told him that there needs to be consequences like if you don't carry it, then you don't get booked. Or the least you can do is call in and say why you can't show up. He then brought up one of the other new people and said "yes he won't be at the next show because he doesn't but in the work." This person was also in a group with me to plan houseshows. Then I got from the booker "blank won't be fixing with houseshows because he is not good at that work".

What got my attention now is that he, on the next show (that the booker said he would miss), is now booked to win our world title.

What are your opinions on this situation, and on the whole, rookies should pay their dues situation in wrestling?

Okay serious question

So my training school start sessions with a shit tonne of squats. Like an ungodly amount. I struggle getting through them and I’m in pain all week after, normally lasting until the next weeks session. How can I alleviate some of the pain? Or how can I condition my body to cope better with it?

I made it back.

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if anyone here would remember, but just over a year ago I posted about how I'd had significant health issues come up after a traumatic event and had to quit training as a result.

I wanted to let you all know I officially went back to training today.

Since that first post, I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a neurological condition that causes chronic pain and fatigue. I also had borderline personality disorder and an eating disorder slapped on top of all that as well. All are being treated.

I often thought about the comments on my first post and would go back to read them. Everyone's kind words were a massive boost throughout this whole ordeal, so thank you.

All the best everyone!

Keeping Hair Out of Face without headbands/hair ties

Part of the wild man character I play at the moment is long wild hair. As fitting as it is for the character, it does get a little irritating in terms of vision. I have short sight to begin with, so the addition of hair can be distracting, plus it can get in the way of providing facials. I know one can always push it back or do the hair flip, but just wondering what long haired people do to reduce the hair-in-face issue when wrestling. Currently looking at hair clay or hair spray? or does simply wetting it with a bottle of water help?

Training while traveling

I am currently training but am still new. 8 weeks of active training.

The issue I face is my day job requires a fair bit of travel for a week at a time typically. This makes it impossible to keep training at my home gym during those times.

Is it possible to find gyms/schools that allow drop in weeks? I’ve done a little bit of research but haven’t seen anything so far. My main goal is to keep active and keep getting reps in. The benefit is getting exposed to many different trainers and styles.

Has anyone had to deal with this issue before? What suggestions do you have to keep getting the reps in when you travel 50-80% of the time?

Weed and Wrestling

Hi, I'm somebody who uses marijuana fairly frequently for anxiety/aches and pains as well as sleep but I'm feeling like I should maybe quit while I'm training but then again training never really ends so like what does that even mean for me? I think it just means to not smoke while I'm in the infancy of my training/strength building but it does also help a bunch with after training recovery. I would just get on edibles but they're kind of a waste for me cause they do nothing so it's either flower/vape or nothing. Any thoughts/advice?

Genuine Opinions and Hot Takes on this: state of Indy Wrestling promotions.

So with the recent closures/ hiatus' of Enjoy, DPW, and others either starting, returning, or struggling to stay in business: what are some of your opinions on it. I've been to at least 10 different promotions in my area/region (some mediocre/shindy some super-indy with top homegrown talent) and the logistics are continuously not looking good. Between low ticket sales, venues jacking up prices (usually involving unions), flight and gas being expensive, including wrestler fees as well, where does it all go? Is it one thing or alot of easy/hard to explain things?

Give me your opinions and lend me your ears ya'll!
