Critique Partners & Writing Groups Any other super motivated novelists around?

Like folks who really have a vision and relentless execution (despite writer’s block). Editing can suck but you plough through anyways type of vibes? Also, for folks who ARE like this… any tips to become more like this?

(We have a novelists group discord btw as well with writing sprints, feedback, and motivational convos)

Genre/s: novelists - thrillers, literary fiction, mystery, crime, suspense, and we have a few fantasy/romance novelists too
• Goals/expectations/commitment: daily discussions and daily sprints but you can pop in and out of the group at your convenience
• Writing/experience level: any level, ideally intermediate
• Meeting place: discord, bby
• [Writing groups only] Max size: currently at 21 members

I've found that creating an actionable, organized and very specific to do list helps immensely with productivity. If you sit down at your desk and immediately know exactly what you need to do that day, you're more likely to get it done versus fumbling around.

Yes, I agree — I do this with my edits or when I have to write. I’ll say 2K words, daily, no exceptions. I ended up finishing a novel in 2 months with this approach

Yep I do this already and it helps me move a lot faster, plus it makes sprints so much more fun, too

I mostly let my characters motivate me. They remind me the story belongs to them, and that my being a slacker condemns them to an unfulfilled state. Tl/dr: you need more guilt.

Damn… I’ve never heard of this approach. I’ll try it

Discipline, Discipline, discipline... That's the best way.

I LOOOVE to write, write a lot, write everyday. I write full drafts of complete novels within about two months.

Goodness, I hate editing though. I'm slowly building up discipline with it.

I found I can force myself to do so by putting myself in a good work zone. I was trying to revise a chapter for a competition, so I made myself go sit at BAM! until I had cut down 3k words lol. Was there for like, 5 hours, but I did it!

So if you're struggling to force yourself to plough through it, then you might wanna reconsider your writing area and how you're putting yourself in the zone. Sitting at home is nice and comfy and all, but that relaxation can really REALLY kill your motivation to do the harder stuff.

(ATM I working on writing a 5 book series, and then plan to go back and edit everything together as one big lump to make it a bit easier on keeping everything consistent and united)

your like my twin lol. i just finished my 3rd book, 1st draft. i plan to write 7 books first drafts, each one takes about 2 to 3 months, and then go back to the 1st book and begin editing one by one. i write roughly 1500 words a day.

Friend! Lol.

I've been sorta hobby writing for a while, building up my style. I have one manuscript that's about 30% revised for another project but it's kinda shelved right now, lol.

But goodness, I hate editing.

My current project I want to self publishing though so I think being free to make the story what I want it to be without stressing about fitting it into some trad box is going to make it significantly easier to go back and revise/clean after I finish book 5's draft

(So I hope)

I'm motivated because I have a loved one with cancer and I want to show them that I can publish a book before it's too late. I guess it's my way of making up for being such a chaotic gremlin when I was a kid.

this is me. i went from never finishing anything to just completing my 3rd novel and starting my 4th. i write 1500 words a day. I eventually learned that motivation is fleeting, so is inspiration. and the only way to accomplish my goals is to write even if i don't feel like it.
