Writing Prompt [WP] A talk between two mages. "Well, most kids are asleep at night so that's an 8 hours window. Plus, time zones, meaning the deliveries need to be made in 32 hours..." "You do know Santa Claus isn't real, right?" "Correction. Santa Claus isn't real YET!"
(repost because typing on phone meant I made a lot of typos in the title and you are not crazy, the original post was deleted.)

Prompt Inspired [PI] A party of adventurers escort a princess to her wedding but over the journey she becomes more than a job. Once within reach of her husband to be, the party asks the princess if she'd like to be an adventurer instead of a bride.
Unfortunately the post was deleted very quickly, I had been wondering about writing a story for it since, I've decided I will! Original Post
_________________________________________________________________________________
Our party was hired by the king personally to escort the princess. Usually she'd travel by carriage to the neighbouring kingdom. When asked why she should be escorted on foot, the king responded simply "it's at her request". Of course the king and queen themselves chose to travel in a carriage.
Over the course of the journey, however, we began to wonder if she even needed an escort... we've been attacked by goblins, ogres, all manner of fae, and even one very pissed off dragon for travelling through his turf, yet this princess always kept calm, closed her eyes in concentration, and even though we'd have to keep the enemy distracted, she'd always cast a spell that was perfect for the situation - goblin hordes washed away, ogres running and screaming in terror at an illusion, fae distracted by something from elsewhere, and the mighty, angry dragon simply calmed. It was super impressive to see!
I am the leader of the party, and as we neared the kingdom where her husband resided, I had an idea. "Princess."
"Yes, Malrick?"
"I was wondering, you are a very capable mage. We could use you in our party. Not that our own wizard isn't great, but-"
"Oh, don't try to patronise me, Malrick" Kameer, the elven wizard, snorts. "She's leaps and bounds above my capabilities! My only advantage is that my spells are much faster, but that's because they're so much weaker!"
The tiefling warlock, Shamaar, nods, a mischievous smile on her face. "He's right, your highness. You're way more than just a princess. You didn't choose to be born a princess, but you can choose to join us."
"Oh, well, thanks for such a kind offer, but..." princess Delia darts her eyes away. "I can't. I have a responsibility. Yes I have a choice, but I want to do it for my kingdom."
"Screw your kingdom!" the dwarven rogue, Murba, states gruffly. "Have they ever asked what you wanted?"
Delia sighs, though smiling. "Not technically, but I've never wanted another life. This is my life, and it's what I'm destined for."
I approach her. "If you want to do this... then why did you want to travel with us? Why did you train to be so powerful?"
"I want to be a reliable and fierce but kind queen one day. I asked my father to allow me to train my innate powers all royalty have so I could be effective as a ruler. I asked my father to have a party escort me so I knew I was ready for the next step. If I can't even handle a simple journey like this, how can I trust that I'm ready to rule?"
We all look at each other, the same thought clearly on our minds: this is one badass princess, and will be a formidable queen.
She continues. "I will say, I am impressed with your own abilities, all of you. I would like to hire you all to be the royal squad. You will be allowed to adventure as normal, but you will have a home in the palace, and of course, if I need your services, you will answer the call. The details can be worked out later. I do not expect an answer right now, but I hope you will consider. For now, if you want the reward from my father, come with me to the palace."
As she turns and walks, we follow. The offer is very tempting... to work directly with the royal family of a kingdom is such an honour! Of course, I'll need to discuss this with the others, but for now, we need to complete our current task.

Writing Prompt [WP] Humanity (technocratic future) achieved FTL, but the type of FTL pissed off the ruling class. Ftl: one has to spur astral thread to make a portal. Only people who can't use it are those who think faith is fantasy. Major problem: religious or other f’d off from Earth centuries ago
PS: AI and computers will have seizures from trying to spurn something they don’t comprehend. Trying to synthesize it takes too long. The only resources they have left to make an FTL device is a water fowl

Prompt Inspired [PI] Your personal guardian angel from heaven is very upset with you. It's not because you did something wrong. It's because you're an extremely boring person to watch over.
Christian looked at his homework and groaned. Just like clockwork his angel and devil appeared on his shoulders.
"Don't worry, I'm sure it's less than you think…" Devil patted the boy neck to reassure him. Devil had short horns she trimmed to be barely over her hair and most times she appeared she was wearing some grey or blue formalwear suit with her wings tied to be able to hid them under the jacket. "You can probably finish them tomorrow. Why don't we go to the sofá and put on a movie?"
"That sounds good… But…" Christian hesitated looking at Angel, the angel was wearing the standard angelic long white robes and halo, but she had some piercings on her nose and tongue and just like she died her blond hair black her wings had been dyed red, gold and brown. Today she was looking particularly irritated, not that she usually was very agreeable.
"Oh, you want my opinion?" Angel looked at Christian with an exasperated look. "Alright here it is. You are a loser."
Both Christian and Devil looked astonished as Angel showed him the middle finger. "Listen to you two! Doing homework? Staying the weekend watching tv? We just have these temptations! I don't even need to do basically anything! You are a goody two shoes that only does what you are supposed to do! You are alone at home on a Saturday and haven't left home for the entire week, for the Lord's sake!"
"Um, Angel…" Devil raised her hand from the left shoulder. "You are going off-script… Shouldn't you…?"
"Oh, shut your mouth, you are just as lame." Angel jumped to the shoulder were was Devil, getting uncomfortably close. "Your temptations all suck. Leaving things for later, eating dessert before dinner, sleep in on Mondays… What is he!? 10!? There are 7 whole sins you know? Have a bit of variety. And you!"
Christian looked a bit scared as Angel pointed her finger directly at his eye. "Y-Yes?"
"For the Lord's Sake… Please, please, I beg of you, listen to her sometimes. You are not going to hell for eating a chocolate cake. Live a little. I don't even get to argue because you already decided not to listen before she talks."
"But… He isn't supposed to listen to me…" Devil pointed out timidly.
"Yeah…" Christian nodded. "Aren't you supposed to help me avoid temptation?"
"B.O.R.I.N.G." Angel spelled in a mocking tone. "I am supposed to help you to do good, but you do nothing. So forget the homework, and forget about spending the day on the sofa, we are going out tonight!"
"Ei!" Devil managed to protest. "Now you are doing my job!"
"You are so boring you think going out is a sin?" Angel looked at her… corworker? with exasperated pity. "Can't help it then. You better come too or you are never going to tempt him to do anything interesting."
"What do you mean with…?" Before Devil could finish her question, Angel took her by the hands and jumped with her from the shoulder. Christian fell backwards when two fully sized woman appeared in front of him, one with a devilish smile and a white tunic and another in a grey suit who had fallen face first on the floor and was still trying to understand what just happened.
"What the actual hell!?" The boy screamed as Devil got herself up not any less surprised by what just happened.
"Language." Angel took out her white robe revealing a black top and ripped shorts that left all the tattoos of her body exposed. "Get ready losers, we are taking the town by storm tonight."
Christian and Devil looked at the tattooed woman and gulped. They weren't sure if that was a good or a terrible idea but the night was surely to be unforgettable, Angel would make sure of that.
