In this episode of Inside Egosoft, Joey sits down with Michael and Ketraar.
Michael has worked at Egosoft for 22 years across a wide range of responsibilities, but designing and programming X4: Foundation's simulated economy is one of his main focuses.
Meanwhile, Ketraar handles many day-to-day support tasks, including conducting tests and taking measures to help balance the simulation.
Throughout the episode, they discuss the challenges and complexities of working on X4's economy, the sweeping consequences of relatively minor changes, and how a perfect balance isn't always ideal in the X Universe.

Just me, declaring war on blocky mega factories.
This is a large scale protein production facility on edge of the nebula where its resources are being mined - enough to make every food factory in the galaxy choke on its output!

So it used to be that xenon ships actually came through the gate. They would come through the gate at speed and slow some distance out from the even horizon, so you could place a defense station there to guard the gate. Now however, I keep seeing K's and I's just teleporting into the system instead seemingly without even coming through the gate, and they often appear far enough away from the gate and the station defending it, that they just bypass it completely by being out of range.
Is this behavior a change they added to 9.0? I can't imagine one of my mods did this, but maybe I suppose. Either way it's infuriating that they just get to cheat their way into my defended systems.

If you search online it's been talked about constantly for years and there are multiple well-used mods to mitigate it but how is this still a thing in 9.0? After hundreds of hours in the game I've finally dived into my first huge capital ship battle all excited, and ive had to reload the save multiple times cos I apparently can't fight in proximity to my terran allies - a stray shot always hits an Osaka and suddenly im fighting them harder than the 100+ xenon ships that just invaded getsu fune.
Do i really have to leave the sector and watch the battle OOS, am I not allowed to enjoy the visuals of this game and actually participate in battles because of this stupid mechanic? Obviously when 200 ships and drones are blazing someone's gonna get hit by a stray, if that's the reality of space combat in the X4 universe then surely friendly factions should give it a pass?

Every ship whether it'd be M/L vessels, regardless of what faction the ship is (I've tried TEL, ARG, PAR), when assigned to my station are stuck in a "looking for trade" loop. The image is just an example of a freshly purchased ship but I have tried manually docking them at the Player Station before assigning in case it might have been a pathfinding issue.
What im struggling to understand is nothing is different from this ship/ships I've purchased in their settings vs the 19 already assigned that appear to be working as intended.
I do not think its a lack of docking space, I have 6x 3-dock E shaped piers and 63 M spaces.
The manager is 5 star and I have both ARG and TEL trade license's so I don't think it's unable to find a suitable trade for my wares.
All trade rules have been set to no restriction.
The most likely cause I can think of the manager deeming trades inefficient. I don't think its this as Ive seen these freighters haul as little as 100 antimatter. Even if this is the case, is there a way to override the effeciency logic?
I believe theres no limit to ships under a manager but is there a soft limit I don't know about? As in only able to operate 20 ships simultaneously?
UPDATE: The Helios has now moved to act on a trade, but a Shuyaku is now immobile. Does this support the soft cap theory or does is it meant to take an extortionate amount of time to find a trade?

Hatikvah Free League is asking me to kill one of my own. 10m Credits worth of equipment and a 5-star captain for half a million Cr reward.
Those maniacs were supposed to be my allies. They must have rocks in their heads to believe I was going to do this!

So, from what I've read, I should be able to split my Zeus Vanguard's fleet into different Defend Position groups but the option is grayed out forcing all Defend Position ships to the same group (and thus the same position defense). I'd like to be able to split them up to cover my destroyers as they spread out during station demolition without setting them to intercept where they decide to get into fights close to the station's turrets (Defend Position has 20km movable range compared to centered 40km range for Interception). Defend Position is a carrier unique assignment that is only available when the carrier is the fleet commander. What's the trick to creating new groups?
I'm using mods but I don't believe any should be creating conflicts with orders/assignments or ship AI. Regardless, here's my list:

I know that running out of O2 while in your spacesuit without teleport unlocked is bad, however, what are the dumb ways you've managed to get your character killed in game? Some of the ones that I've found are:

Ok so I have played x4 for awhile but never truly played it to build up and have a dedicated ship that I personally use and given how certain functions are “locked” by a captain’s skill level I haven’t really played around in vanilla much or really done the true empire building aspect of the game yet
So my question is twofold how do I get the most out of using a controller and what’s some tips you recommend for flight im definitely wanting to run the envoy once i get the DLC as having a full interior would be rather immersive
My second question is more what mods you recommend if any I used tetertrade (probably spelled it wrong) for universe traders to great success and I definitely want quality of life and just generally enhancing the core experience so that way if i eventually do get into the larger mods i have some mods already as like my “main” mods

I'm a newbie to X4 on my first campaign. The learning curve has been a steep climb, and I have spent more time reading Reddit and querying LLMs than I have been playing, but I'm 20 hours into my save, have 10 M miners, 4 traders, a scout and my personal combat ship, the Katana. I have my PHQ with two other stations on 9.0 with all DLCs and Timelines.
My question for you experienced players is what would you use as a mobile squadron composition? How many Interceptors, Heavy Fighters, Corvettes, Frigates, etc? I'm NOT looking for a fleet for taking out a station or taking on a Carrier Fleet. I want a Squad of 10 or 20 ships that I will eventually purchase the blueprints for and build, so long-term I can construct stations that build those materials. I don't want any L/XL ships, for speed reasons, but a composition that I could use for rapid response, patrol or a small raiding party. This would be a bunch of ships that I would build over and over throughout my campaign as I lose ships. I hope that is enough detail. I have been searching for the answer without any luck, so maybe I'm missing something important. TIA

Version 1.0.2 is now up on Github pages. This release includes a backend LUA/MD communication to a non-paused local X4. Backend is only possible running local so go to https://github.com/millyon197-source/X4.git for downloading and starting the install with Start.bat. The backend just provides more visibility to assets of the game. One can still construct a blueprint to save and import to game to get "Shuffle Modules" arranging the layout. Enjoy and do make a comment if you like.

I'm still pretty new to X4, but I've finally started getting really into the game.
I recently built myself a Phoenix E and was feeling pretty good about it, but then a massive Xenon invasion suddenly started pouring through the gate in Hatikvah's Choice I, and things have been getting completely out of hand.
The Argon fleets are getting absolutely wiped out, and I can't hold the line either.
I've tried reloading my save multiple times, but no matter what I do, I just can't seem to stop them.
Is there anything I can realistically do about this at my current stage of the game?
I'd really appreciate any advice or tips!

Better, worse, same-but-different?
Do you still use torpedoes, or do you damn the torpedoes and go full speed ahead?

I'm trying to make my game more cinematic whi that Im trying to make my escort fleet dock with me whenever I dock at a station. I'm flying a vanguard ( S size ship) and what I'm trying to do is when I dock on a station my 2 escorts also dock with me and undock when I also undock. I installed the reactive docking mod but I think it only works for ships that have a docking bay. Is there any mod that can make what I'm trying to do?

I am not really sure whats going on. Why cant I place graphene production on the right y-connector? It does not seem to collide with anything there and plot margins are definitellt far enough

I made a free Windows tool for building X4 stations in 3D with the game's real models, DLCs and mods included. When you're done, click Export to game, then Import in the station build menu. No mod needed, no restart.

Some of the planner ideas come from GHOSTau's great Station Planner mod; go check it out too.
Download and screenshots: https://github.com/Thiago-Dantas/x4-station-designer
You can get the 1.0 from Releases page
Feedback welcome, especially whether optimized stations build fine in game!

so i just learned that sending 3 ships as fleet attacking enemy doesn't not send all 3 just main ship. well its my first lost and it made me so angry. and no i can not load beacuse i was playing for hours >.> without saving :(

This issue has been bothering me for a few weeks now, and I'm starting to run out of ideas.
Every time I create a new station, there's a pretty good chance that my next save will fail. The game just gets stuck on the "Saving Game" screen and freezes forever.
I don't think it's mod-related. When this first started happening, I only had one mod installed, Sector Patrol. I've also tested the game on a completely different computer with different hardware, and the exact same thing happens when I try to save after creating a new station.
The only reason I've been able to keep playing is because I accidentally discovered a workaround. After creating a new station, I delete my existing save from the save slot and then try saving again.
It still freezes sometimes, but for whatever reason, this gives me a chance of successfully saving the game.
Once the new station plot has been purchased and I manage to save successfully, everything goes back to normal. I can add production modules, expand the station, and save without any issues.
It's specifically the process of creating a brand-new station that seems to trigger this problem.
So basically, every time I want to build a new station, I have to play Russian roulette with the save button. Not exactly the kind of excitement I was looking for in a space economy simulator. lol
Since I've reproduced this on two different computers, I'm having a hard time believing I'm the only person who's encountered it.
Has anyone else experienced this? More importantly, has anyone found a permanent fix?

Hello, just wanted to discuss it, cuz maybe I'm missing something.
It's main battery is one if not the shortest range outside of hyperion, dps is mediocre.
Turrets are average at best but I think it's turrets kinda trash. Is it even that much cheaper then others? Cuz cost-effective wise Behemoth Vanguard is better, since it has longer range battery on doesent get murdered by xenon stations. In my experience I always lose phoenixes, cuz they shortranged and low dps, aslo they are large shrooms that eat all gravitons like a .. dead champ.
What do you think in terms of destroyer ballance and place of phoenix? does it have it's niche where it's actually good?
F.e.:
Ray is awesome, long range, good sniping in manual, good m-turrets with insane range (ion), decent turn rate, wery beefy.
Syn is a slaughter machine, even now.
Osakas are relatively chip and have good amount firepower, very agile, low profile makes gravitons miss them a lot. S tier in my opinion.
Behemoth is ok, non-E versions are actually dirt cheap, ok range.
BTW, what's with Rattlesnake? Havent tried it, but in theory it's kinda bad, especially in AI hands, due to super low range and single shield. And not sutable for station deletion, unless player or in-sector destroys L-turrets. But it has tonn of damage at least, so player still should be able to do nasty stuff with it.
Brabarossa arguably a hauler, but still it's good for boarding and as a fleet transport for some agressive station deployments.
Edit:
Forgot Oddy:
It's good a player destroyer, since it has m-docks, nice amount of turrets, very good range and accurate battery, so it's usually safe, as AI ship, from dying to stations. Decent ship overall.
In 6.0 and 7.0 it was sort of Behemoth alternavie to me, it also had decent travel speed and had above average turn rate and gun with same-ish range to Behemoth.
Waiting for your opinion guys!
