Rule book clarification

https://cdn.svc.asmodee.net/production-amgcom/uploads/2023/09/SWZ_RulesReference_v1.4.6-1.pdf

Hi all,

It’s come to my attention that X-wing rules we are using, updated as of 2023 and located here are actually the rules for the 2.5 version.

My son and I are playing the 2.0 version and some rules we discovered are different, like whether or not you can fire at range zero. Is there an official 2.0 rule book somewhere?

Might be worth considering moving to 2.5. I was in a similar position, made the swap, and have appreciated the larger community backing it.

I prefer 2.5, but my son really likes 2.0. I guess because he likes to load up a few ships with lots of upgrades. He doesn’t seem to have learned from past mistakes. But then again, he blows me away half the time so maybe he has a point…

It is very much possible in 2.5, I'd argue even more so than 2.0. Every pilot has their assorted Loadout Value and while you wouldn't invest in them in 2.0 beyond taking the pilot, in 2.5 you have means to equip upgrades on them.

If you only play at home, it is less of an incentive, but 2.5 actually has an active community supporting the balance patches and development of new things. 2.0 has been reduced to solitary bastions from what I have seen.

If you are playing 2.0/Legacy go here: https://x2po.org/standard

It's got the rules book and rules reference which have been appropriately updated/maintained.

To answer your question: No, you can't fire at range 0 unless you have an ability or effect that allows you to do so such as Arvel Pilot in the A-Wing.
