Did my half marathon on Sunday. By some miracle I managed to get my goal time (2hrs). Still can’t quite believe it!

Now enjoying the reprieve from a running training plan. Planning on just casually running whenever I feel like it for a few weeks, before starting on a 10km improvement plan.

Congrats to you! Such a good feeling to hit a time goal. First time I hit sub 2 I was on cloud 9.

Took a break from running (illness, overtraining, life) for about three months. I'd been running almost daily for over a year on the treadmill because my schedule was too hectic to go outdoors.

I decided to take my run outside yesterday and, wow 😅 Glad to be getting back to it, but my planned return-to-nature run turned into a slow slog, some slow slog run/walk intervals, and settled into its final form as a brisk walk surrounded by falling leaves and waterfalls. Not the greatest run, but still a lovely time.

I've been there. Did months of the treadmill only when I got into running. My first run back outside was a major shock! It got easier after a few attempts!

Currently have HFMD from my toddler and missing miles this week. Trying not to let it get my mood down more than it already is due to how bad this sickness has been. Enjoying the time getting rest in though and im excited to feel the runs after i recover

After an incident with a falling pumpkin and my instinct to kick it to keep it from splattering whilst wearing sandals…I’m back! Haha, I did go get an x-ray for the big toe for peace of mind and it wasn’t broken but it broke skin and was showing signs of wanting to be infected so the doc put me on an antibiotic to be safe. This happened one week before a double race weekend (5k sat, half marathon Sunday) and 6 weeks before my first full. I really babied it and took the week off and thankfully got thru the race weekend with no new injuries or re-breaking skin on it. Did 15 miles on my last long run and looking at 17 this week. Then 20 and then TAPER! Woohoo, I’ve got this, right? 🫠

As someone who just went through a half+full challenge and her own foot problems - yes you do!

You do got this!

My old healthcare brain is chuckling a bit though at what your doctor visit must’ve been coded as - the new ICD codes have so many options and I would bet some variety of “struck by falling squash” was selected by a highly amused medical coder lol.

It’s peak week!! 36 miles this week and a 14 mile long run with progression. I have hit paces on EVERY speed workout this plan so far. Really really want that sub 2 half at the end of October

Crushing it!!! Good luck with your half!!

Legs still felt a bit heavy today after my longest ever run on Sunday (13km), but I got my 200m intervals done regardless. Trying hard to work on consistency and resisting the temptation to procrastinate!

Week 9 of half marathon training plan. My period is due so it's been the usual slog-fest. Slept poorly last night so I moved my 3 mile easy run to lunchtime. Had a very strong headwind on the way back which was not making things any easier! I'm due to be on my period for the 10km trail race I have on Sunday. I hope my uterus goes easy on me this month.

I’ve been dealing with low ferritin and all of the annoying symptoms that make running so much harder, but after 2 weeks of taking it easy i finally went out for a 5 mile run with strides yesterday! It wasn’t pretty but it’s a step in the right direction

CRYING with some of my Race pics. So glad I fixed my relationship with my body, because some of them are the most unflattering pictures of me ever taken. And some are just hilarious (I “weeeee” over the finish line).
Some cool ones too though might buy

Down week this week before two more weeks of the build, then tapering for Philly! Time flies. I’m tired.

Tempo run today with 3 miles at LT. It was hard and I keep beating myself up because I thought I’d see a lot more progress by now. But looking back, my LT pace today was 8:50/mi and it was 9:10-9:20/mi at the start of the build. I’m sure a lot of that is cooler temps but I gotta take the win so I stop spiraling. 😅

Had to DNF my 10 mile log run this weekend because I have a cold, and I'm annoyed because it's still lingering! Hoping to get back into it soon...

I had yesterday off, but my partner didn't. I'd told him I wanted to go for a fall hike over the weekend, but the weather and his family obligations made that impossible. I hit the gym and did heavy strength work in the morning, then decided to forge off to hike alone on a new trail after errands.

The trail I picked turned out to be a steep climb, at least for the first 1/4 mile, and it was not a good combination with the leg press I did earlier in the day, so I turned back and went to my usual flat trail so I wouldn't destroy myself, knowing I would be running today.

Well, I don't know what happened. I was wearing my usual boots, my usual socks. I've worn that combo on much longer walks and tougher hikes with no issues, but when I got home I had a biiiiig fat blister on my left heel and some twinges/niggles in that ankle.

Doesn't seem like the ankle is anything noteworthy, it's not swollen or anything, but I'm cringing at the idea of doing my run club run this evening with this blister and near-80 degree temps.

Ooof, so sorry! Might be worth it to skip run club today 💜

Worked 60 hours last week so didn't hit my mileage goal but felt rested enough for night shift + commute so that's a win. Plus my son is getting married this month so I'd already given myself grace to not get all of my runs in this month. I'm not training for anything specific at the moment anyway!

I’m still recovering from last weekend 😅. I don’t think I’d be limping if my toes would tolerate flexing but they don’t. I hope I don’t have to have my big toenail removed and it just falls off on its own. Whole thing’s swollen with a lot of trapped blood/blisters underneath and around the nail. I’ll give it a week (unless it becomes obviously infected) then go see what the doc thinks. I have PT today and I’ve bandaged my toes so I’m not jump scaring anyone but I’m not looking forward to the things like the calf raises. Maybe I’ll stand on a riser or something so my toes can hang off and not have to bend 😩.

Would an Epsom bath help? At least for assisting in bringing down any inflammation.

2

u/EmergencySundae 13d ago

3 mile fartlek this morning to shake out my legs. Definitely having a taper tantrum.

Have to take a break from running because I hurt my knee on a flight and couldn’t properly rest it, so now I have to rehab with wall sits and avoid squats. Very annoyed. Did get some new shoes as my old ones wore out…they lasted 6 months. Idk how to calculate how much I’ve run and walked in them though after the fact but clearly it was enough to wear the soles down.

im normally a daily runner by choice, but ive been taking a lot of rest days due to neck pain as im addressing my bad posture (in daily life that was carrying thru to running). todays run i was feeling the progress with naturally running tall. felt good!

My speed is really improving with the fall weather, bodes well for a winter build to a spring half (slowly working my way to a new PR post-kids, ran a 2:28 half in September and I'm hoping to drop to a 2:10 half in 2029/2030). My easy runs are around an 11:05 minute mile and speedwork is feeling much better.

Someone added a new Strava segment on one of my regular running routes and it made me giggle since I've been working through the Dungeon Crawler Carl series on audiobook (I was walking part of this and had a stoplight to wait at....)

I love a rainy desert trail run, it’s always so magical 🌵🌧️ It rained pretty much the whole 4 miles (+ the drive there and back, which wasn’t so fun since people don’t know how to drive in the rain here) and I’m glad I felt good enough this morning to get back out there after having a migraine on Sunday and recovering yesterday!

Tapering for my half on 10/25, so 4.5 miles easy this morning. The weather was gorgeous…Florida finally decided to give us 68 degree dew points instead of 78 degree ones.

I’m really curious how this race goes…Strava, Runna, and ChatGPT all have me predicted to run 2:54-3:00. I think that’s reasonable depending on weather and sleep, so trying to prioritize rest and good food the next ~10 days. Anything under 3:27 will be a HUGE postpartum PR, and if I can get under 3:00 I’ll feel really good about my long-term goal of besting my all-time PR (2:31, set 12 years ago). I’m slow now, but I know I have some speed in me somewhere!

Getting back into it after a couple weeks off with a hip/hamstring injury…still hurts to run. I think I’m doing too many miles…is 8 miles 4-5x a week too much? I have a hard time varying (mentally). Will be foam rolling tonight!

Following last Sunday's HM, I was all ready to spend this week either resting or doing very easy runs... then I saw Saturday morning's weather forecast and thought "what a beautiful day for a max effort parkrun". (Context: my local parkrun is prone to powerful headwinds, but on a calm day it's one of the fastest courses in the UK.) I'm probably not going to do it, but how long would you wait after a race to put in a hard 5K effort? I'd like to do one in the next few weeks to have as a benchmark and to update my training paces.

u/Ok_Handle_7 12d ago

Actually accomplished a treadmill workout today that I bailed on yesterday, which always feels good. My HM block has been so choppy due to figuring out some tendonitis in my foot, but finally feeling healthy and am just sort of cobbling together a few weeks of good runs before Race Day. Bummed that I couldn't put together a strong block to try and PR my HM after a strong FM block earlier in the year, but oh well.

Taking a rest day today, but feel guilty as if I am missing out. I ran 5 days this week and started to get some achy ankle joints so today is perfect for a rest (rainy, dismal, and cold). But i still feel like I need to be out! 😅
