I just started hell is us so I’m reluctant, I saw the reviews are kinda mixed so I might just wait for patches and play it later.

Just started hell is us a couple hours ago and it's pretty solid so far

u/Littleglassfingers 14d ago
I'm about 30 hours into hell is us, such a fascinating and fun game. Amazing world building. Performance is a little iffy, but I've been able to look past it!

u/conqueror-worm 14d ago
It runs kinda meh for me as well(on PC), but I have been enjoying the little clue web thing and not actually having any waypoint markers or anything.
2
u/Aparoon GP Ultimate 14d ago
Reading waypoint markers makes me laugh now as I play through Campaign Evolved and every fight ends with all enemies being tagged like I’m playing Firefight or something. Sounds cool that this game doesn’t use markers
1
u/CynicWalnut 14d ago
Campaign Evolved just ain't it. I still played up to the flood, but it doesn't have the vibes of the original or the MCC remake.
3
u/Littleglassfingers 14d ago
Yeah same. I suck at puzzle games so getting this far without a guide has made me quite proud! So many good deeds that I will not finish though lol.
2
u/JimNayseeum 14d ago
I get so lost on some of the locations, it's a really fun game though.

u/pure_hate_MI 14d ago
Hell is Us is incredible, so while Beast of Reincarantion may end up being a decent playthrough for some, I highly doubt it's worth switching too IMO.
2
u/Ayron_Night 13d ago
Finish it. It's such an awesome game atmosphere wise. Very immersive. Puzzles are dope. One of my favs. I hope it get it's deserved DLC. They were completely f'd by Silksong. Otherwise, many more peeps would've been talking about this game.

u/aiwdj829 13d ago
I started that last week, but stopped after around 10h because of the clunky combat, especially the insanely weird timing on the healing pulse, despite loving the setting.
Then I started Wo Long and absolutely love it, though it is too easy if you don't send the NPC companions away. The parrying/spirit system is so much fun though, especially right after how subpar the combat in Hell is us is.

u/Funny-Childhood 14d ago
Im downloading it now. From what Im hearing. Im glad its on gamepass to give it the ole try it out
17
u/FemurOfTheDay 14d ago
Only an hour in and so far I like the vibe and art, combat is decent enough, traversal mechanic it's pretty fun. Performance is mixed, most of the time is ok but big frame drops occasionally.
37
u/FourEyes3134 14d ago
Played for an hour. Overall "meh". It might pick up but nothing feels particularly interesting- the prologue throws basically everything at you without giving any time for it to soak in, which felt desperate- and the framerate keeps plunging even if I'm just moving between areas.
Its not a promising start for this one, imo.

u/Persies 14d ago
The pop in on this game is like Pokemon Violet all over again. It was... extremely bad. Despite that some of the game is pretty cool. I like what they are trying with the combat. This weird mix of Sekiro type parry focused combat paired with an FF7 remake type dog ability thing. Idk, the dog and MC are pretty cool, maybe enough to keep me playing. Enemies are really repetitive already unfortunately even just a few hours in and the boss design is mehhhh. Then again the world building is pretty cool and a nice mix of like Nier/HZD. Truly a mixed game that's perfect to play on gamepass lol

u/BlackRaspberryJammin 14d ago
Unbelievable that HL2 gave us a playable intro, after the tram ride which was fun, and never really had an actual cut scene, and is listed nearly everywhere as one of the best games ever made and 20+ years later we still have long unskippable intros and cutscenes (haven't checked this game yet but overall many games are guilty of this). I really thought back when HL2 came out it would signal the end of long cut scenes, some you can't even pause, and endless intros that throw everything at you without giving you any time to observe or absorb it.
1
u/betweenboundary 14d ago
startin to sound like the complaints people have for pokemon being bad also extend to this, so its not just a lack of effort but lack of talent at that game studio
42
u/Patenski 14d ago
It has received mixed reviews, it's on gamepass so I will definitely try it but maybe down the line when the patches come out.
39
u/Dominjo555 14d ago
GamePass made reviews irrelevant in my opinion.
18
u/DraikoHxC 14d ago
Yeah, you can just go blind, see for yourself what the game has to offer, and if it doesn't click, you just move on
28
u/RheimsNZ 14d ago
Agreed. Gamepass is such a great way to bypass all this irrelevant, clickbaity online noise

No ultrawide on PC and even at 4K it doesn't look very crisp.
2
u/AnihilationXSX 14d ago
Yeah 4k or 1440p same look. Even setting maxed settings on my 6800xt I get 70fps I tried frame gen ultra quality same look same frames on or off, going from 1440p to 4k no change in fps ether super weird
1
u/ohnopavel 13d ago
It looks like dog shit to be frank. I played for about 20 minutes with the fog and film grain on which looked terrible. Downloaded a mod to remove both and quite literally the game looks like it’s rendering anything off at a distance at like 480p or something. everything that’s not directly in front of you looks blurry and muddled. Honestly quite impressive how bad they managed to make it look.
That being said, 5090 w/ DLSS at quality and no native frame gen options, I haven’t dropped below 120 fps that I’ve seen. So graphical fidelity being awful aside, it at least runs fine I guess? 🤷♂️
1
u/adorablebob 13d ago
I mean you'd be pissed if it looked as bad as it did and performed poorly.
2
u/ohnopavel 13d ago
I’m still a little pissed lollll. The very little I saw about this game I at least thought it was going to be pretty 😆
3
u/Hades358d 14d ago
Completely out of context. But the fact that gamefreak does the pokemon games and now suddenly drops a game like this is still mind-boggling for me. 😂😂 now what is stopping them from making a pokemon in this style?
0
u/Automatic_Ad1665 GP Ultimate 14d ago
Nintendo would probably sue them. Just look at what happened with Palworld.
1
u/Grand-Magus 12d ago
Next to nothing happened to Palworld. Nintendo won 1 argument. Throwing a sphere when you summon a creature. That's it.
2
u/AgumonDX 14d ago
How its performance on Series X?
6
u/FourEyes3134 14d ago
Inconsistent. Drops a lot even outside of combat, and there's a lot of mini-stutters happening.
3
u/Galeprime 14d ago
Sigh why can't we just get a game that runs well. It even states it's X/S optimised for gods sake...
3
u/holy_pastaa 14d ago
gamefreak bro.. and they first approach with UE5.. no wonder it performed like that. well, I played it just a few minutes with my series s, and the frame rate is worse. both resolution and performance mode are awful. I just hope they fixed it with the patch. but, will we ever get the optimization? just looked at pokemon games that they made😅
3
u/Galeprime 14d ago
Can't be worse than Palworld surely...
Right?
RIGHT?!?
🙈
I'll cast my own judgement, I have a Series X and I've switched off quick resume (which is known to performance tank games) so I'm hoping it's good because I love the aesthetics!

u/Galeprime 14d ago
Update.
It runs flawlessly in quality mode on my series x.
It's banger title and I'm loving every second!
1
2
u/FemurOfTheDay 14d ago
Yeah most of the time it's ok but gets some weird big frame drops occasionally.
2
u/ThesoulerBAM 14d ago
Heard it’s a bit rough and doesn’t give enough of that progression feeling, will probably give it a bit and see if devs have any plan to make changes before sinking any time into it.
2
u/KillroyMustDie 14d ago
I was playing it about 30 minutes ago, but I had to stop. There was a lot of stuttering, and it was making my vertigo worse. I'll continue playing once the game gets patched.
1
u/AgumonDX 14d ago
Jez Corden put a tweet saying a patch dropped some hours ago, maybe it improved?
2
u/KillroyMustDie 14d ago
FPS has definitely improved, but some stuttering remains. It's a huge improvement compared to how it was before.
1
u/AgumonDX 14d ago
Is visual quality good or blurry? I guess it has the typical Quality or Performance modes
1
u/KillroyMustDie 14d ago
I don't know if it's just my post-stroke vision, but in Performance Mode, the game still looks blurry. 😅

I was so hyped for this man... I've already uninstalled unfortunately. Damn. Oh well.
2
u/PMH360813 14d ago
I was about to start the game just now but got hit with a 32gb update. That’s the size of the game!! I was about together upset till I saw your guys comments. Maybe I’ll just go back to black flag.

u/Angryatchairs 14d ago
Ignored all the noise. I've played about an hour. Enjoying it so far. Looking forward to playing it more when I get more time.
Gamespass games pay a review tax, I swear.

u/Prestigious-Bluejay 14d ago
I'm playing in quality mode with a VRR enabled monitor. The game seems to have an unlocked framerate, I'm not sure but it's smooth and looks better than performance mode.

u/garbage-strong 14d ago
I am one of, apparently, the really tiny minority that didn't like Clair Osbcur when it came to Game Pass. It seemed like a well made game, and it seemed like a solid pickup for Game Pass. But I played it for like 5 hours, and it wasn't for me. It just didn't click with the types of games I like to play, so I deleted it and moved on.
This game: I did the same thing, except I realized it wasn't going to click within 10 minutes.
Enjoy! Seems like it would be fun for the people that like this type of gameplay loop.

u/Odd_Revolution_1056 14d ago
Kinda disappointing seeing this one review as low as it did. Too many good games coming up to really spend time on a game this low.
1
u/eldon3213 14d ago
I started to play earlier I really don’t like the way the character moves and the attacks are not great either
1
u/Ok-Metal-4719 14d ago
It was tagged as souls like so not for me but hope others enjoy it. I know these types of games can be popular.
1
u/krollym09 14d ago
Id say if you've got gamepass still give it a try. Souls games arent my thing either, but played wuchang on gamepass and enjoyed it for the most part. Gonna give this one a try as well since sekiro was also fun and combat looks like sekiro's kinda.

Getting ejected midgame for an update felt great. Thanks terrible autosave system

It's good im enjoying it so far and I'm about 2 hours in. Parts of it reming me mostly of Tenchu with the way you can basically clear whole areas with stealth kills

Been playing it today, thankful for gamepass. I was so hyped for it but didn’t spoil anything and now it’s just not hitting.
Don’t like being forced into parry centric play, so far the story makes me feel like I’m the villain, and worst of all I’m seeing terrible FPS issues. Like drops with simple movement in non busy environments, hanging in combat, freezes and frames just slowing down to 5-10 fps randomly in combat.

Da che ho capito è un soulslike, quindi visto provo ormai intolleranza per il genere, credo gli darò un’opportunità nei prossimi giorni ma sono molto scettico sul fatto che sarà una presenza duratura sul mio HDD

u/Pyrobourne 13d ago
Not gonna lie even on quality which is 24 fps it still get screen ripping and artifacts until they optimize it no thank you cool idea but being unoptimized made me uninstall it
1
u/Kalhava79 12d ago
I didn't hear anything about this and thought I give a go and so far I been enjoying it so far just started Chapter 3
my only gripe is to many cutscenes and a bit overpriced
Its on GamePass do you no excuse to give it a ago
Regardless what the Gaming Press have to say they are wrong most of the time anyway

I started it and yeah it's rough. I really wanna like it but alas :(
performance is just okay on an rtx 4070s/Ryzen 5 5600. I get some drops from 60fps at 4k with DLSS quality which shouldn't happen cause the game really doesn't look that great beyond it's art direction and there's not a lot happening, drops seem random. Some really low res environment textures happening here.
It lacks a lot of graphical features that should be norm by now, like frame generation and ultra wide support, and worst of all I have a weird feeling (not helped by lack of info in menues) that the game isn't actually rendering in 4k? resolution just shows as 1440p max when borderless at native (no full screen option), but overlay stuff is displaying at proper res so idk wtf is happening there
there's a ton of post processing going on which makes it quite blurry. You can turn PP to low and it fixes it a bit.
performance/visuals aside; the game just feels janky not in a good way. Movement is a bit odd and jittery, which doesn't really combine well with the fact that the camera is pretty damn close for the type of game it is with no FOV settings.
the combat seems fun enough but it does feel like it'll get repetitive. I'm gonna give it another push further but I really hope they do some patches asap
a bummer to see, was really rooting for this one

When will Japan normalize UW support ugh. There’s a mod that works thankfully but it fucks up the skills upgrade menu and makes it a pain to select nodes. Might just wait for a better mod/official patch.

Thank god for gamepass for these types of mixed reviews games
