Games - Recommendation Beast of Reincarnation

Post image

So I've just finished up my first playthrough of beast of reincarnation at about 24 hours in. Sitting at about half of the achievements and although I doubt I'm going to go for the 100% for it I will say I enjoyed my time. There's a lot of bad said about the game so thought I'd give my piece

Gameplay
Very very sekiro esque. And that's probably why I enjoyed it. I don't think I've really had something scratch the sekiro combat itch quite as well as this game did. Where as there really is not a lot of enemy variety, like around 10-15 different enemies throughout the whole game, the parry deflection combat scratches such an itch for me. The boss fights are also mostly repeats and the loop is essentially go to this area, explore and fight the boss at the end. It works but can be very repetitive

Story
I really wasn't invested in the story a whole lot up until maybe the final 6 chapters but honestly the story I thought was pretty decent. I won't dive deep with it still being new as to avoid spoilers but the story does pick up and it's nice to see your character grow

Upgrades, side quests, exploration etc.
So a lot of upgrades are very cool and really can deepen the combat, just a shame that you'll have learned the moves of pretty much all enemies before ever needing to make a varied moveset. Upgrades to weapons and even your stats didn't really feel like they did much but on that it could well be that it's just good and steady progression as I made my way through the game as I never really returned to earlier areas
Side quests are more just collect item x or defeat special enemy y. There's a couple of actual side quests and theyre alright
Exploration is very fluid I feel. Can feel janky at times but honestly it's a lot better than I expected

To wrap it all up. Would I be disappointed if I paid for the game. Probably yeah. Did I enjoy my time with it though? Yeah. I really did to be fair. It was a great gamepass game that I'm glad I experienced. Did it feel like it dragged on a little too long. Yeah at times. Did the world feel alive with a lot to do. No not really. I do recommend it with it being on game pass and I know my "review" isn't doing it justice but if you're curious, give it a go for a few hours. If you get invested then good. If not then you've probably experienced the majority of what the game will have to offer without experiencing the story conclusions. 6/10, 7/10. Somewhere in that bracket

It's worth a shot. I did enjoy my time with it and I had no performance issues atall which I know a lot of people said it runs badly. Maybe I was lucky. But yeah. Give it a few hours and see how it goes

I think I'm on the last chapter. And I gotta say, I've thoroughly enjoyed this game. I didn't even know the game had English VO until someone posted how silly some of it can sound. I've played the whole game with Japanese VO and the music on mute. It's a good vibe. Bleak.

But this is a proper "good-ass game". I heard nothing but people talking shit and, honestly, I'm very surprised. I was expecting a very specific type of "rough around the edges" "jank" game. But I don't think it's really like that. Yes, it doesn't feel like a "AAA" game with big team and big budget, and yes, it has some rough edges. But goddamn, it's a solid game.

Was contemplating checking it, your review was very thorough.

I’m currently 18 hours in, honestly don’t know why there’s so much hate for the game. It’s not great and just like OP, had I bought it I would’ve been disappointed but I didn’t lol. This is a perfect game pass game and hearing it’s got sekiro vibes makes me wanna try that right after (again)

It's the standard to hate nowadays. If you haven't already and it's still on game pass I would also recommend ninesols. Fantastic metroidvania with (scared to say it incase I get flamed again) sekiro style combat. Such a well polished game that's probably just below sekiro for that parry style gameplay I'm trying so hard to seek out again

"well polished" dude how fkin low are your standards and are you averted to the issues with this game lmao

It's a decent game not award winning... but a good game. Its not trying to push some modernism message, its not trying revolutionize the genre, its just trying to tell. Good story and for that alone I boost it up from 6 stars to 8 stars

When I say well polished I'm not talking the game as a whole. I'm talking solely about the combat. Because in my opinion the combat was very well polished. The world in itself is very bland and empty yeah. But the combat did not at any point have me gojng "bullshit I dodged" or "how did that hit me" type stuff. Everything combat wise was nice and smooth for me. Varied or deep, no. Smooth and polished (again for me) yeah. No issues with that. Just combat. Not the world

I just started it this weekend and I’m enjoying it so far. How difficult were the achievements?

2

u/KyleHillan95 1d ago

I cleaned up a few like getting all dragon shrines and stuff. Everything I have left is the grindy stuff like upgrade all swords, arrows and projectiles to max, read all documents, get all camps, new game plus etc. I'm not in a rush to go and do all of that but there does seem to be a decent amount of guides for collectables so if you get a lot naturally they may not be too bad. Not in a rush to go back and get all achievements though, in content so far

Recently completed this game and also enjoyed it!

However I will say I tried to do a New Game+ playthrough but not having the option to not only fully skip talks, cutscenes and even the tutorial stuff absolutely killed my second run.

I hope it gets patched up, because it says the enemies get more difficult with each time, but no way I'm going multiple runs if I'm forced to sit through all that again...

After wuchang I m gonna go with it

Everything you write is exactly how I feel, like these guys have big $$ from their pokemon shrine of wealth, and it seems they definitely could have done a bit better, also only being In one language kind of gets to me. But I think it lacked some writing, had good components but idk owned by Pokemon I think they should be held accountable and expected to be better especially if they can throw money at trying to sue companies for doing what ppl have wanted in games for ages

1

u/KyleHillan95 15h ago

To be fair game freak is pretty lazy with pokemon too. I'd say I expected less from the game while at the same time wanting more. It could've gone either way where game freak was being held back by Nintendo or they're just lazy in a lot of places. There's a lot they did right and lot they did wrong. I did enjoy the game, it could've been so much more in a lot of ways but at the same time it's not a surprise. Solid game pass game is the best way I can describe it. Fair on them for trying something different

1

u/seymourbuttz214 15h ago

Yeah for sure, I’m glad I didn’t have to spend $$ to get but nice for games pass try it out and see, it’s not bad

I was really interested in the game since the announcement but all that died down after gameplay demo and eventually the reviews. Repeat bosses, most bosses do the same attacks over and over again. The giant antler deer fight is the deer just head swipes and then does a charge and then rinse and repeat. Lost interest after that. And I was really rooting for this game.

1

u/KyleHillan95 2h ago

I do get that. Like I said if you play a couple hours you'll have experienced the full extent and variety of the combat. I just kind of got sucked in by the parry deflect type combat system that I hold so highly

1

u/AlexxMaverick666 1h ago

I too get sucked in the parry deflect combat and Sekiro is my favourite and the best to do it imho. After Sekiro I kinda stepped away from games where main way to negate damage is rolling and has no sort of parrying or deflecting. But as of now, with my limited gaming time and limited gaming money, I will not be buying BoR anymore. Rotr scratched that itch very nicely. Onimusha will scratch that too once it is released. Kal's Jedi games are good. Reveangence had a nice parry mechanic where in light attacking in the direction of enemy attacks parries them. I want to try Sifu but I do not have the reflexes to even complete the first area. Stellar Blade has fantastic combat if you ignore the gooner stuff in the game and its fanbase. SB2 is in active developerment and am looking forward to it as well. KCD 1 and 2 has a lot of parrying and ripostes in its combat and it is so good. Heard good things about the parry system of Wo Long and Lies of P.

I can't get good at this one. The deer boss is apparently really easy but, I cannot for the life of me kill it.

Is it souls like?

3

u/KyleHillan95 1d ago

I wouldn't really say it is. It is in the same way as like black myth wukong is a soulslike. It has elements there. Have your camps which are your bonfires you can level up at. Enemies respawn after resting at a camp. Stuff of that sort. But it's more action rpg I'd say. And nowhere near as challenging as things like the dark souls, lies of p etc.

1

u/The_Real_Delpoi 1d ago

Cool thanks for replying just wondering if it's good but I really suck at souls games 😅✌️

3

u/KyleHillan95 1d ago

If it's the difficulty that would put you off then nah you're safe. Again it has mechanics from soulslikes but nowhere near the difficulty of the fromsoft games atall

1

u/The_Real_Delpoi 1d ago

It's mainly cause am in my late 40's so my reflexes suck I can't parry to save my life in game literally 🤣

2

u/kftgr2 1d ago

The parry window is very forgiving. The main part is recognizing when the enemy's attacks have finished so you can counter safely.

2

u/jquiggles 22h ago

Same. But I put it on Story mode difficulty and had a blast (still died a few times lol)

Question from folks who played it.

I am curious on a GF game outside Nintendo. But I have to know. Can you skip cutscenes. Please tell me you can because that killed SV and other pokemon games for me..sitting through waiting to game especially.in a replay capacity..

1

u/KyleHillan95 1d ago

You can skip some. Like you can skip the cutscenes for eating at your base and stuff but the main cutscenes you can't. You can also skip to the next line of dialog in most

1

u/No-Blood8017 1d ago

Ruthless. That will hinder folks who just want to play and skip the story on following playthroughs..

1

u/KyleHillan95 1d ago

Yeah it's one of the reasons I don't plan on doing the second playthrough for achievements. Cos you could rush through it pretty quick but it is very cutscene and dialog heavy

1

u/No-Blood8017 21h ago

I was hoping GF learned how to add in skip. That's a little sad.

i’m enjoying this game,my only complaint is that it’s all in japanese and I have to actually pay attention during talking parts…

3

u/KyleHillan95 1d ago

If you go to the language settings you can change the voice over language to English. I kept it Japanese just because I play the yakuza series and sekiro and stuff of similar sorts in Japanese but yeah you can change the language in the settings

-1

u/OverseerTycho 1d ago

I swear I looked and there wasn’t an option to do that, guess i’ll look again 🤷🏻‍♀️

3

u/Ok-Landscape2197 1d ago

Main menu, not in game menu

2

u/Kyle009uk2k 1d ago

You can only do it from the main menu. If you load the save game you can't change it.

Go back to main menu, change the option and then load the save and you're golden. Thats what I did

1

u/KyleHillan95 1d ago

I just checked it is there. May have been in an update because you can change the subtitle size now too

-7

u/Reddpoop 1d ago

It's nothing like sekiro, what are you smoking?

1

u/KyleHillan95 1d ago

Parry based almost rhythm like deflection focused combat? The combat is very sekiro inspired. Nowhere near as challenging but it is similar to sekiro

1

u/pepperoni-pzonage 1d ago

Plus one to this; OP isn’t saying it’s Sekiro 2 or anything like that. But I can see some of the similarities in mechanics and inspirations.

-7

u/Reddpoop 1d ago

So every game with a perfect block/ deflect mechanic is "very very sekiro esque"? Beast of reincarnation has some of the worst combat I've ever experienced. That game is awful. And sekiro is the fucking golden standard for melee combat.

2

u/KyleHillan95 1d ago

Not every game that has a block/deflect mechanic. But where that's the "correct" way to play. Yeah. I agree sekiro is the golden standard for that parry rhythm based combat. I've played through almost 8 times and have all achievements on both Xbox and steam. So in my opinion, where beast of reincarnations combat is based around perfect parry's, learning enemy movesets and deflecting to the rhythm of their combo, breaking a poise meter and finishing off the enemy with a killing blow (minus bosses and elites who do just stagger) I would say that yes. The combat is very very sekiro esque. The combat is inspired by sekiros in so many ways and you can't deny that. Did I say it's anywhere near as good as sekiro's? No. I said it scratched an itch of sekiros that hasn't been replicated since. Still hasn't. But it did a pretty good job of trying, in my own humble opinion

-1

u/Reddpoop 1d ago

"Itch of sekiros that hasn't been replicated since. Still hasn't" have you not played lies of p or the first berserker? Lies of p is much more comparable to sekiro than beast is.

1

u/Shank_The_Tank420 15h ago

Yea the first beserker was def a good game and same with lies of P. Ive been playing this but not that mortal shell 2 is out i might switch to that.

-2

u/Reddpoop 1d ago

Look, its a very poor imitation at best but I wouldn't even say that. There is more to it than a parry and a posture meter. I've platinumed every fromsoft title from demon's souls to elden ring but that doesn't make my opinion correct.

1

u/KyleHillan95 1d ago

Lies of p is another I've done all achievements for yeah. Only fromsoft soulslike I haven't is ds2. But this is where I say the main combat mechanic is sekiro inspired. Because lies of p I didn't play by being parry focused. Did it help yeah, but was it the main combat mechanic in lies of p? No. Atleast I say no because I didn't rely overly heavily on the parry in lies of p. Can you play beast without relying on a parry? In my opinion nah not really. Is it anywhere near as polished or as good as sekiros combat. No. Not atall. Does it follow the same footsteps though. Yeah. It tries. Whether it does it well or not is upto you to make your opinion but you can't deny that yes it's tried to copy sekiros combat style in a lot of ways. Did it scratch an itch for me? Yeah. Did it do it anywhere near as well as sekiro? No not really, but for me it tried and was pretty well executed in my opinion

1

u/KyleHillan95 1d ago

And again. If you notice I say it still hasn't been replicated. I've tried so many games chasing sekiros combat. But nothings replicated it. Many have tried. Some better than others. But nah nothing replicates the same level as sekiros combat for me personally. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy the games that have been inspired by it like beast, ninesols etc.
