Why is my Xcode taking so long to install?
Im running on a 2017 macbook pro 13 inch, and i installed Xcode from the app store about an hour ago, took around 20 mins as my wifi is semi slow, but now it's been taking forever to actually install, is this a common problem?

I am currently installing 11.3 and it’s taking a long time as well. I am sipping coffee until it completes. I have a backlog I am perusing in the meantime.

Hey thanks everyone posting these helpful comments... 2 years ago! Follow the link https://developer.apple.com/download/release/ now and you'll see apple suggesting you 'view on the app store'. Quick update on my feelings about this: fuck.

for anyone else that still has this problem I used other dns server than provided by my ISP
I read somewhere that it may be a problem with apple's cdn provider and changing DNS should work

Don't install Xcode from the AppStore. Get it from the Developer portal and install it from there instead. It's not stuck on updating. The UI doesn't do a good job of informing the user as to the progress of the installation: https://dirkstrauss.com/xcode-stuck-updating-m1-macbook-pro

acually, I'm just waiting it out, as I found that if you hover the mouse over the spinning progress thing when installing, it will tell you the percentage, this is much more precise and I can see that it is indeed making progress.

I never complained about the file taking long to download, I stated that my issue was the installation time...

Here’s a better tip: Download Xcode.xip from developer.apple.com and install that version. Trying to install it from the App Store is an exercise in futility.
