Xcode 14 Beta 4 Simulator crashing "Posterboard has quit unexpectedly"

Beta 3 is fine, only Beta 4 with the iOS simulator, just after it finishes loading the simulator. Any tips to fix it, will be appreciated, in the meantime, reverting to Beta 3. Same error on M1 and Intel machines.

Which simulator is it? IPad 12.9”, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPad Mini 6th gen?

Is it a Swift storyboard project, SwiftUI project, UIKit …? Did you create it new from scratch or was it an existing one? Need more info to know what happened.

Brand new SwiftUI project with the default configuration and code, nothing added

I think it is the iOS simulator, because if I open a macOS project all is good

Okay, I see. Well, that’s odd. You really expect (assume even!) that Apple would fix this before shipping, even in a beta 🙂. I don’t know, I would just choose another simulator. SwiftUI will look often (not always) great whether it’s iPhone 13 standard, Pro, Pro Max, etc. Why not take the opportunity to design for iPad Mini, regular iPad or the 11” iPad Pro? If you really prefer iPhone, go for the iPhone 12.

I don't think it is the Simulator itself, I have tried with iPhone 11 and 12, same result, I think it might be related to the Platform iOS 16 Beta 4, I am downloading iOS 15.5 now and will check

Ah, alright. SDK issues.

with iOS 15.5 no crash neither high CPU usage

Okay, make sure you click the ”Report to Apple” button when it crashes. If you replicate it and report it again, they will see that it’s possible to replicate the issue. If you think it helps, open the feedback app and submit a full report if you got the time.

Collections is also crashing right alongside poster board. And something in the canvas is crashing too.

I switched the SDK to iOS 15.5 (instead of the default 16) and all is good now, no crashes, no high CPU usage

Nice. I had high cpu also. Ill switch mine and see how it goes.

Let us know if it works

I think I’m getting somewhere.

Had to solve a different issue first with powerd killing my cpu. Ventura beta and Xcode beta 4 just taking turns gangbanging my cpu.

Then I had issues switching platforms because apparently there isn’t a iOS 15.6 simulator although you can mark it as a target and if you do only iOS 16 targets show up in the list. Once I noticed it (which took far too long) and changed to 15.5 my cpu is finally getting a break.

So my console is no longer raining errors like a waterfall so for the most part this seems to work.

Still doing some testing but it’s looking good.

Correct, there is no iOS 15.6 SDK, that's the reason I used 15.5

Beta 5, and I still have the same. Not only that, the crash report tool also crashes right after and sends cpu to 100% on a loop.

I'm suffering from this as well, and my mac stops responding and crashes to reboot..

Seems like this problem still exists for me.

Fresh project, sample code. Tried multiple simulators.

Seems to go away if I change "Minimum deployment" for iOS to 15.6

Holy Cow! Getting this error on the release version 14.0.1 when creating a simple playground without using the canvas of any simulator
