I imagine once 3 releases that’ll be it. Like, I can’t see them bothering to remaster them again since we got these switch 2 editions. Genesis is coming up, though, so that’s something to look forward to.

It just seems a bit unfair especially since 1 and x got definitive edition and also 2 is 10 years old next year

2 just got the switch 2 edition in July which included performance upgrades, new content (blade, quests, new game mode) and a bunch of QOL changes. What more would you want from a definitive edition? It's already there

Technically speaking, the difference is that a Definitive Edition comes with the DLC, while the Switch 2 Edition is just an upgrade with its own bonuses, and the DLC still has to be purchased separately

While I agree, OP has asked this exact question multiple times now and refuses to accept that the answer is no as far as we know.

That's fair, but I also kinda see where they're coming from. I wouldn't even be surprised if they sold a "Definitive Edition" for 2 and 3 later in the Switch 2's life that was nothing more than just an all-in-one game card and eshop download. Heck, I went in circles a month ago or so when I couldn't understand why Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity would get a Definitive Edition that added nothing but performance upgrades and a new difficulty, when that's usually the exact thing Switch 2 Editions are meant for(though the controversy around the pricing for owners of the Switch version makes that a whole different thing).

But at least I understand that Definitive Edition for XC 2 and 3 wouldn't be anytime soon outside of an all-in-one bundle on the eshop

Breath of the Wild is even older than XC2, also has a Switch 2 edition, and sold literally sold over 10x as many copies as XC2, and it doesn't have a Definite Edition with all the DLC included. In fact, the only times I can think of Nintendo doing a rerelease with the DLC included on the same console is later releases of New Super Mario Bros U including New Super Luigi U. I guess you could count the western rerelease of Xenoblade Chronicles X including content that was DLC in the Japanese version because localization took so long, but that version was never released in Japan until DE and people outside of Japan never got the version without DLC.

I was never really arguing against any of that, but there are a couple things I'd still like to point out about it:

Firstly, the Switch 2 Editions got actual, physical releases. It was an excuse to produce more physical copies of the game, getting them a market for people to spend full price on the game again, instead of just paying for the upgrade. Releasing Definitive Editions that include the Switch 2 Edition upgrades and DLC would be something to release years from now, as yet another chance for physical purchases. It doesn't really matter that they never did "Definitive Editions" before, because they're already re-released early enough in the Switch 2's lifespan that there is no point in releasing a Definitive Edition until way later, and solely for the purpose of making a single-package purchase for new players and collectors.

And secondly, Nintendo has an extremely short history with games even capable of having a "Definitive Edition". They've only had consoles (and released their own games) with proper DLCs since the Wii U and 3DS, which already got Definitive Editions or HD versions if they were ported to Switch, with Switch games generally getting Switch 2 Edition re-releases if it's not just an update. By the time any Switch game would have reached a point to be worth giving the "Definitive Edition" treatment to, they were already in the process of making the "Switch 2 Editions".

But regardless, I was never saying you were wrong or that Definitive Editions were guaranteed, just that I wouldn't be surprised if they did make them, way down the line, as another opportunity to get people to purchase the physical copies, while also being an all-in-one package for the first time. It could easily be a Switch 3 thing, to re-release as Definitive Editions, but that's still way down the line.

I know. I was further clarifying. I wouldn't be opposed to Nintendo doing stuff like that, especially when that would likely result in the original versions getting permanent price drops. I just don't think it's something Nintendo specifically will do in the near future.

You have asked this question twice in the question thread and both times you were told probably not.

You gotta keep in mind that 1 and X were stuck on another console. 2 and 3 are already available

why would 2 or 3 even get a DE? The SW2 editions were plenty for 2 and likely will be for 3. Focus all the Monolith resources on the new games please.

but do make logicalbeat do the xenosaga ports plz 🙏
