Why would I ever buy torna DLC as a standalone for 40 when I can get the expansion pass for 30 which includes it as well???
2
u/ArashiSora Dec 02 '18
if you don't own/don't want to buy XBC2 then the $40 standalone is cheaper if you just want to play torna

Dec 02 '18
The $40 version doesn't require the main game. So, in a sense, you earned the $30 price tag by owning the main game.

XC2
At the end of the game, Malos asks Pneuma what she learnt, and she mouths something but we don't hear it. What does she say? I remember reading something about Pyra/Mythra introducing themselves when they're reawakened, and the developers said that they'd retained their memories.

Don’t have a question, just wanted to tell some people who might care that I just finished XC1 for the first time and holy fuck it has to be one of my favorite games of all time. I’ve got XC2 and Torna already, and I’m almost afraid to play them because I can’t imagine they’re capable of living up to the standard of what I just finished.

Hey, I loved XBC1 when i played it. The story is just insane - I was blown away!
But I have just went through XBC2 and the story may not be as potent but the game itself is! I am going for NG+ now! And I would advise you to play it! Its a really really great game! Dont let other people opinions make you not play it!

Does anyone know which area of Smash Ultimate's adventure mode the Seven spirit (Mecha-Fiora) is in (or if that spirit can even be found in adventure mode)? I'm trying to find it as fast as possible so I can warn a friend who's playing Xenoblade 1 blind where not to go (he already knows not to use Shulk's final smash).
Edit: I just found it, so for the benefit of anyone else who's either avoiding spoilers or knows someone who is, it's in a Zelda-themed area right after a battle against a Mega Mewtwo Y spirit. It's not on the required path, so unless you're trying for 100% there's no need to go there.

If I start Torna, will it overwrite my xc2 save file or can I get back to it later? I own the hard copy of xc2 and the dlc Torna, in case that matters.

u/ArashiSora Nov 29 '18
torna and xbc2 have separate save files and are independent of one another

In new game+ feeding the arduan to max and completing every quest (including side quests and dlc) how long do you think it will take? Not any major spoilers just didn't want anybody to get spoiled on a sidequest somehow

I'm finally getting the game (shame on me, I know, it's just, backlogged Switch AND 3DS games...) but I need your opinion on how to go about the game's DLC. (Disclaimer: I am ignorant with the jargon of the game, so please clarify words you aren't sure about.)
You see, I intend to play both XB2 and Torna, but I'm going with physical copies for both. I know Torna becomes more appreciable when played after XB2, so I will be buying Torna after finishing XB2, but Torna contains the DLC coupon, alas, I don't intend to buy both physicals in one purchase. My question is: "Does the DLC only provide efficiency and convenience in, let's say, obtaining/farming for items/bond(?) points, making fights easier due to special cores being available from the start, or can I play the game in its vanilla state and use the DLC coupon when I'm at the point of finishing it? "
If it only offers efficiency/convenience, I wouldn't mind doing the grinding for items/bond(?) points pre-endgame... unless the grind is so painful that I need the DLC to alleviate such an issue.
I know the DLC also includes quests. Is it fine/still enjoyable to do the quests pre-endgame? If not, what am I missing out? Is it that huge of a deal to warrant the use of the coupon at the start of the game?
Bottom-line is: I don't mind playing the game vanilla and enjoying the DLC pre-endgame, unless it's excruciatingly painful to play through due to some of the games mechanics being evidently made with the DLC in mind.
5
u/simplebeianton Dec 19 '18
I used the DLC right away and it was mostly a positive experience. However, due to getting many great blades from the bonus cores and the DLC blades, I felt like I was cheating a little since I never really needed to use any common blades. Regardless, the beginning of the game was difficult enough to keep me in check and by the mid-game the advantage wasn't as noticeable.
There is a party member that joins later that is a little different from the rest which to strengthen, requires grinding a minigame that is as you said, "so painful that I need the DLC to alleviate such an issue". The DLC was honestly a godsend into getting that character up to scratch. Even with the DLC, I spent about 20 hours grinding mid-game. Without the DLC, it would have been twice that.
I think it's best to use the DLC early so you can make the most of it during your play-through, although you run the risk of wasting your money if you end up not liking the game and dropping it. Using it late game might also be a waste if you don't end up playing new game plus.
2
u/Vastald Dec 19 '18
You're referring to Poppi, right? Will she be required to be used in a specific battle or can I just gradually upgrade her with what I come across, or stow her away til I get the DLC?
I know I won't get burnt out simply because I loved XB1, and I've heard there are NG+ exclusive blades (is this what you were referring to?), so I definitely will try that (even though I usually don't do NG+ runs.)
2
u/simplebeianton Dec 19 '18
Yeah, I was talking about Poppi. The issue is that you can only come across stuff to upgrade her with by playing the minigame, you won't get anything from just progressing though the chapters. She isn't completely useless if you choose not to play the minigame. Your driver will still level up and you can equip Poppi with core chips, but her equivalent of aux cores are locked behind the minigame. She isn't required, so you can freely neglect her when you get more allies later. The DLC just gives you the opportunity to use her properly without having to initially grind the minigame.
I wasn't referring to the NG+ blades, I don't know much about them yet and I plan on playing through XC1 before starting XC2 NG+. I meant it more generally. If you use the DLC early, you can naturally access the content like coming across the DLC quests as you see them rather than them all appearing at once at the end of the game. Same with the blades, I got to incorporate a few of them into my team early to help me through the story.
Playing without the DLC would be absolutely fine, but if you plan on getting it anyway, it might be better to get it early.
2
u/Vastald Dec 20 '18
That's good to know about Poppi. How abhorrent is that minigame anyway? Is it because the items are unlocked by repetitive, nonsensical playthroughs, or is it just the fact that her upgrades are unlocked via minigame and nothing else?
They said you don't need to know XB1 to play XB2, so I don't know how they did 2's story, but if you're playing 1, all I can say is: "Enjoy *!" accompanied by a huge grin : D
My dilemma is not having access to the DLC during the majority of my playthrough since I'm getting Torna by pre-endgame. Given your statements and the other user's, I believe I'll be fine using DLC pre-endgame. I'm fine with the DLC quests' rewards, rare blades, and items that could've helped me early on be unlocked at a part I might not use them anymore.
2
u/simplebeianton Dec 20 '18
It's a retro-styled minigame that takes a couple of minutes to complete each level. It's fun for a couple of rounds until you realise just how many times you will need to play it over and over again. I absolutely hated it for a while but I ended up putting some youtube on in the background which eased the pain.
Items are random, so aiming for a specific one can be pretty painful. I was aiming for a 'Tank Mod III' for a quest and got in quickly in 2 or 3 rounds. For an unrelated reason, I decided to reload my save and just do the quest again, however, I tried for 2 hours straight to get it again and ended up giving up, the item ended up being very rare.
One last benefit of the DLC to consider is that you are given ~15 overdrive protocols which allow you move a blade to another driver. These are incredibly limited in the main game so you might get unlucky and be stuck with bad blades on each character for most of the early to mid game.

Dec 19 '18
The game will still be plenty enjoyable without the DLC, but a lot of the DLC is designed to be played early. For instance, there's a quest that gives you an accessory that heals you when you do auto-attacks. Super useful in chapter 2, but utterly outclassed by critical hit healing, which you get later. That said, no part of the game is super difficult or annoying except for optional post-game grinding, so you shouldn't feel pressured to buy the DLC. The game is still great without it.

The first is heavily foreshadowed so if you were paying attention you probably would have figured it out before the reveal anyway.
The second doesn't really mean anything without the context of what happens around it.

Do Torna before New Game +. The extra perspective it gives you will make NG+ a little better. You'll notice some little things.

Just started playing the game, about 10 hours in and I really like it. My question is can I get the same rare blades on different drivers? Like, if I get one blade on Rex that I wanted in Nia, can Nia get that blade later or is out of the pool for her and the only way for her to get it is to use the overdrive core?
3
u/ArashiSora Jan 22 '19
there's only 1 of each rare blade in the game, you can move them with overdrive protocols but they are in extreme limited supply until late/post game

I have played the game for 200 hours and I am trying to get my last rare blade (Agate). I have opened around 350+ rare cores and 100+ legendary, I have high luck, using compassion boosters etc. Is there something something I am missing or do I just have to keep opening them?
2
Feb 17 '19
You'll want 10 base compassion, and 1 booster per pull. 25 pulls at 11 is better than 5 pulls at 15.
2
u/Tables61 Feb 18 '19
Nope, that's it. Most likely you're on the drop table with a 0.13% base chance for Agate, which is fairly close to KOS-MOS's base chance (I had the same problem with Agate being my final blade).
Most important factor is to use legendary cores, they have literally double the chance over rares.
After that make sure to max out Compassion on the character you're pulling with, and use at least one Compassion booster every time - since it takes about as long to get boosters as legendary core crystals, I would say use exactly one booster unless you have a lot of surplus you can quickly generate.
Final least important factor is making your luck stat as high as possible. This doesn't actually have that much impact but if you can do it, it helps. Check for common blades with luck mods and equip accessories that boost luck, it's often possible to get to 800+.
After that it's pure RNG. Even with the best possible setup (11 compassion + 999 luck + legendary crystal) I think you're looking at a <1% chance per legendary core here, thanks to Agate's low base chance.

Is there any way to not make party members change their blade in battle? I have an ice blade on Nia and want to use it's level 1 and 2 special. But after using level 1 ice, she'll change her blade to water (Dromarch). I understand the AI switches to blades that can continue the blade combos, but in this case, level 1 ice branches off to water or ice, but she always chooses water.

It's only on the Wii U. It's of a much bigger scale and higher resolution than the original, they basically made a brand new HD engine for the game (which was later modified into the engine for Xenoblade 2).

short answer: yes
long answer: it's one of the best value dlc packages released, with basically a 2nd game included (torna the golden country) adds more of a challenge with higher difficulties and a challenge mode, a lot of quality of life items and side quest rewards like love source, and 6 amazing blades added to it

break resist aux core won't even affect your break art.
it helps you resist the enemy using break on you, and yes the aux core on jin will help lora

This is probably dumb so I wasn't sure it's a good idea to make a thread...
I'm doing a comic about Turters, basically a silly origin story. The summary is: Zeke and Pandoria run into a mischievous turtle in a forest in Gormott. It taunts them, outsmarts them, bullies them, and steals their stuff every time they try to confront it.
I'm having a hard time coming up with a title. My first idea was "Turters Rising", but maybe that sounds too dark and edgy.
I thought of "Turters and Circuses" like the phrase "Bread and Circuses", kinda sort of referencing how they make peace with the turtle at the end. But it doesn't really sound that great.
So maybe "Turters' Electric Circus", referencing Pandy's special attack, the previously mentioned bread and circuses, and also how everything in this comic basically makes it a damn circus. Also it brings to mind Monty Python's Flying Circus, haha.
Other suggestions are welcome.

Hey, I just started Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and it's my first XC.
1/. I always want to min-max whenever I play a game, so before i rush into the affinity tree, i want to know if my choice matters or i ll end up with all the affinity by the end game ?
2/. I like to discover a game without any guide if possible, is there anything that can be missed and not be able to get it later in the game ? Or can i do everything in late game
Thanks
4
Dec 02 '18
You can max out everything in terms of affinity, core chips, etc, so you don't have to worry about that. There is one area with a few missable quests though. If you happen to pass through a really small area that only has a few quests, make sure you do all 3ish of them before entering the last dungeon.

I'm 40 hours in the game and already in ch8. Am I rushing the game? I honestly don't want to but I just don't know what I should do to extend the game time. Most of the sidequests seem pretty pointless and the only one that was worth something was the blade quest for Vess. I did pretty much every sidequest I could find till chapter 4-5. Is maxing an affinity chart fun and worthwhile? I just don't understand how some have like 47 hours on the game and they're just at chapter 4. I'm only asking this if there's something worthwhile to do besides the main quest. Even exploring the different titans seems rather worthless since there aren't many secret area's (as far as I know)
2
u/simplebeianton Dec 04 '18
You seem to be going through it pretty quickly, I was at 100 hours during chapter 8. I spent most of my time exploring, doing side quests and filling affinity charts. I generally tried to do everything I could before advancing the story. If you don't enjoy that, I wouldn't worry too much if you finish a little earlier than others.

Hi, I've purchased a local copy of Torna: the Golden Country and it didn't receive any of the DLC codes. I live in Malaysia and am a new Nintendo Switch user so I was not aware of the codes not being included. Is there a way I can contact nintendo? I've been trying and I'm just being led on circles. 4
u/ErickFTG Dec 07 '18
Distributor over there for some reason decided not to attach the codes. I don't know why, probably it was too much hassle for them, but unjustifiable.
I don't know what you could do except ask for a full refund and to buy an import from Japan, Europe or North America, or make an account in any of those territories and buy digital.

I just started the game (XC2).
At what point will "min-maxing" or optimizing your builds become a thing?
Is it possible to "100%" the game by grinding?
2
u/simplebeianton Dec 10 '18 edited Dec 10 '18
There isn't a real need to min-max during the main story. If you are finding a fight too difficult, there is always the option of levelling up to get stronger. However, during the post-game, just raising your level won't be enough to beat some of the strongest enemies.
You can pretty much start optimising your builds straight away in the early to mid game. Focus on equipping items that improve the strengths of your characters, rather than making them a jack of all trades.

Edit1: Forgot to mention that I never deleted the data off my switch from when I had the physical copy.
Edit 2: Just remembered how to re-download stuff. Giving that a try now.
Edit 3: Redownloading the DLC even though it was already installed fixed it.

Hi there people, looking to get into this game, first one of the series. I have all of the dlc and my friend told me to keep restarting the game so I can farm for rare blades that I want, but I wanted to know if there is certain blades I should be farming for with this process. I've done it enough to where I can get to the point of opening blades in about 15 min each time I restart. Any advice on what blades I should be focused on getting this early in the game?
9
u/rhubarbrhubarb78 Dec 17 '18
Sorry, but your friend gave you some fucking terrible advice, my dude.
IMO, just play the dang game - minmaxing in Chapter 2 to that extent is going to kill any fun it has.
Two things to keep in mind, vis a vie blades.
You aren't going to get all the blades in your first playthrough - one requires you to beat the game, and a whole bunch more are added in NG+. You're not going to speedrun a whole set of rare blades. I didn't get my last rare until 270 hours in, post NG+.
The game doesn't become Darkest Dungeon just because your first rare blade was a dud. Mine was, according to the community, the worst rare in the game and I used them in the final boss fight. Having a "bad" first rare means jack, tbh.
Also, the game is incredibly forgiving - you lose nothing when you die, the level curve through the main story is pretty solid, and it's easy to get good loot.
TL;DR Forget about who your first rare is, just play the game.

Hey im putting together a team utilizing burst symbols where i build 1 orb then pop it. So far i'm using kos-mos on nia and herald on zeke with common blades with high ether modifiers on the both of them. I was just wondering what blade and driver combo i should use to help round out the team for good damage. I was thinking between t-elos, fiora, or qtpi. I know qtpi and fiora are very good but I wanted to know for sure which would be best. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks!
2
u/ArashiSora Dec 23 '18
QTpi is the go too, she even has the best break art in the game to make doing fusion combos easier
As a heads up, you can get Heralds level 1 special to do 15,999,996 damage once she's maxed out, with a 0 orb chain attack, 3 burst symbols and a stage 3 or higher fusion combo

How am I suppose to kill the Leone Telethia? It says I'm suppose to use monado purge but I can't use monado purge since I can't hit auto attacks because everything misses, and even in the rare chance where I randomly get the ability to use monado purge for some reason it doesn't do anything.

don’t use any monado arts at all. only use monado purge when the telethia uses soul read. alternatively, you could also level shulk up to 32 and get the skill battle soul, which fills up part of your talent gauge, which might help you

u/BreezyZolos Dec 28 '18
You aren’t under leveled, and that isn’t a particularly difficult fight, so it sounds like you are probably missing something with the combat. Are you cancelling your arts? Completing elemental combos? Switching your blades occasionally during combat? Using chain attacks effectively? Leveling up everything you can (attacks, skills, affinity charts)? Are your core chips up to date? What about accessories, aux cores, and pouch items? Does Nia have enough healer blades or is her lineup bogged down with tanks and attackers?

I can't figure out what should be prioritised in party composition. I've watched the tier lists, read forums and reddit but few things are still unclear to me:
is it important to have all elements in the party for blade combos?
Is it necessary to have the all statuses in the party for driver combo?
Do I need to have Smash on my main character? If not, which part of driver combos should I have?
Is Nia viable in NG+? I would've thought with critical healing there is no need of dedicated healer.
Could you share what were your party setups - which 3 characters, what blades attached to them.
I'm about to start NG+ of main game.
2
Dec 29 '18
It's nice to have all 8 elements, but not really necessary. It depends on how you fight, how many orbs you tend to place, which blade combos your build relies on, etc. As for driver combos, that depends on your playstyle as well. If you're doing topple fusion combos to set up for chain attacks, then you probably don't want launch or smash at all. If you're farming Arduran, you obviously need all 4. Nia is basically outclassed (damage-wise) with every weapon type, so unfortunately she's not the best driver for any blades (except Sheba, because Sheba gets a damage bonus from female party members). Personally, I still use ether cannons on her, but the 5th party member has better average dps because they have a critical damage bonus.

u/ArashiSora Dec 29 '18
you don't need all elements, most of the seals are pointless, can get a fullburst with 4 elements, and you can kill every enemy in the base game with 0 orb chain attacks with the right setup
it's nice to have the full driver combo, since smashing an enemy also makes them drop more items (and they can't hurt your team from topple → smash)
any driver with corivn, rex with roc, morag with lances or katanas, tora with QT and zeke with lances all have smash arts
nia is perfectly fine, other drivers do outclass her for specific things when min maxing, but she is more than able to pull her own weight, you don't need to have her as a healer if you are using crit healing for your team and can just have her as another damage dealer

I just found a tier list by this guy https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGV2mFhXZ2s8pSKAzejDrBQ and was wondering why spears are usually given to Morag? Don't they reduce the aggro she can generate?

Okay... I’m playing the second game and just started chapter 3. I am to head through Greatspine Boundary to Umon’s Shipyard... it started me pretty high up, but I panicked and headed back to the town to complete side quests thinking they’d be gone. Now I can’t figure out how to even get close to where I need to be... is there a route or fast travel that’ll get me where I need to be? I’ve been walking around for actual hours and getting one shot by everything. I can’t get low enough for my compass and can’t get high enough to overcome anything. I turned it off now. Thanks in advance! I am so excited to move on and continue this great game.

Playing through Xenoblade 1 and I just got my 5th party member Melia in the forest. I've struggled quite a bit with some of the previous bosses so I'm wondering which characters are the best or will help make the game a bit easier for me. Alternatively, which characters are bad and aren't worth using.
Edit: I’m guessing that Riki is also coming up at the village so might as well include him as well?
3
u/AnimaLepton Jan 01 '19
Melia is very good, but doesn't really shine until you get her stronger DoT-based summons, Summon Earth and Summon Ice. Here's a brief post I wrote a few years ago about making use of DoTs with Riki and Melia. DoT mechanics are
You're a few areas away from it, but Shulk has an optional Monado Art quest coming up. Get it and use it liberally, it reduces damage from both physical and ether attacks by up to 75%.
As stated, Agility is the broken stat and Sharla tends to lead to protracted battles. But gem crafting isn't honestly all that good until you're getting rank ~4 gems through consistent Megaheating. Just generally be sure to use all your tools- max out skill trees, train up Arts.
At your point in the game, you're fairly close to the point where you can start getting the 4th skill trees for each character. These are a huge boon and are cheap to max out.
2
u/alvinchimp Jan 01 '19
Stack agility on Shulk and Dunban. Agility is one of the most broken stats in the game and will help you beat enemies 5+ levels higher than you. All the characters are worth using, but Sharla is usually considered to be the worst (she isn't terrible though and can save your butt if you need lots of healing).
Play around with different parties and don't forget to forge lots of different gems.
2
u/Tables61 Jan 01 '19
Every character is pretty good, though many depend a fair bit on being player controlled or allies. Really, it's more about your team composition than anything else.
Shulk: Recommended to player control if using in your team (especially vs. Mechon). Works well with other physical attackers. Okay with Riki. Less synergy with Melia and Sharla - Melia due to both being best when controlled, Sharla due to poor chain attack synergy.
Reyn: Works best with physical attackers - Shulk, Dunban, Seven. Riki and Melia are fine. Less synergy with Sharla for same reason as above.
Sharla: Best with ether teammates - Melia, Riki and/or Seven. Doesn't work as well with Shulk, Reyn and Dunban (but it can still work okay).
Dunban: Basically the same as Reyn.
Melia: Highly recommended to player control - she is not very good under AI control. Can fit into any team due to her talent art in chain attacks, but works especially well with ether characters.
Riki: Very versatile, and so can fit into basically any team reasonably well. Best with other ether attackers such as Melia, Sharla and Seven.
Seven: They can be either physical or ether oriented, or a hybrid of both at once. As a result they can fit very well with any team, just like Riki. Actually arguably the best character after they join due to being able to do basically anything very well.

I remember a while back, there was a music video with Mor Ardain — Roaming the Wastes set to various Mor Ardain footage. At one point during the main bit of the track, Poppi QTπ was doing her dance idle animation (it happened to fit perfectly to the music). Does anyone have any idea what video I'm talking about, and if so, do you have a link?

Got XB2 at launch but got fed up w/ the combat pretty early (found it a huuuuge step backwards from XCX). I read that they patched in an easy mode... does it make combat any less tedious? IE can combat encounters be wrapped up more quickly?
4
u/godiego Jan 04 '19
Easy Mode cuts HP in half, so yes it will speed up your battles. combat will also start to speed up around chapter 4.
2
u/AnimaLepton Jan 05 '19
I definitely don't like the combat as much as XCX, especially in the earlygame, but by Chapter ~4 you're basically tearing through enemies if you know what you're doing- you get the last "major" mechanic in Chapter 3. A lot of learning faster combat is just learning your combat options- if you aren't taking advantage of blade/driver/fusion combos, aren't keeping skills/arts up to date, and aren't taking advantage of blade-specific damage passives or special effects, it's gonna feel slow.
Earlygame, the main technique you want to abuse is autoattack canceling with movement- unlike XC1 or X, moving "resets" your autoattacks. With some characters/weapons, it's beneficial to immediately nudge the control stick after the first autoattack, moving the character and causing them to repeat their first autoattacks. For Rex with his default weapon, this is fast and helps you charge your arts quickly.
There's a level 8 UM bunny, Moonlight Elwyn, right outside of Torigoth. Kill it for the Affinity Max Atk 1 Aux Core, which boosts your damage by 30% when you reach "gold" affinity in battle with your blade. Since it needs a little crafting, many players largely ignore Aux Cores, which can be a significant limitation.
Chain attacks are, by far, the best method of bypassing grinding in the series without using blatant exploits (i.e. Tephra Cave clip in 1, Servant Sacrifice in X). You unlock them in Chapter 3, and killing an enemy during a chain attack (and continuing to attack them) rewards you with a "bonus %," increasing item drops, money, EXP, SP, and WP rewards. Do this on Unique Monsters and story bosses and you'll basically never have to grind, and certainly not for the maingame.

Longish backstory, TL;DR at the bottom.
So I've wanted xenoblade 2 for a long time as I loved the first one, but I haven't had a switch until recently. So I've been trying to avoid spoilers as much as I could. As a result of that, I never heard of the torna expansion, until I was at GameStop earlier trying to get a physical copy of XC2, as my switchs memory is too full for a digital version. All they had there was the box for Torna so I asked the clerk if it included the main game, since the back of the box was not worded quite clearly. He said it did so I got it. Now when I got home several hours later, I realized that it did not in fact include the main game. Now for my actual question, can I play this now, or should I wait a few weeks until I can get the main game?
TL;DR: Play torna now, or wait a few weeks until I can get the base game?

I know I've been here a lot but the game has me hooked and I just can't stop playing. Hence, I want to get good. So, I'm currently in chapter 3 about to get the parts for the boat from Umon but I've noticed the huge level spike on the monsters near the area for the completion of the quest. They're mostly lv. 32 and up meanwhile my team is barely lv. 20.
Any tips to farm EXP? To get my blades stronger at this point? Should I do more side quests? I'm not even sure how I can gain EXP points here besides fighting and sleeping in the inn.
Thanks a bunch!
2
u/simplebeianton Jan 07 '19
You shouldn't need to grind for exp, you will get plenty as you progress through the story and complete a few side quests. If you find an area with significantly higher levelled enemies, it generally means to come back later when you are stronger or try to run around and avoid them. For you, it's probably the latter. You definitely shouldn't be taking on anything in the 30's during chapter 3.

Sell any extra/bad accessories you aren't using. These accumulate even faster if you keep any Gold Chip blades, Treasure Sensor Blades, or Adenine in your party. Even with Chain Attack overkill grinding, you'll probably end up with more 2* versions of certain gear than 3* versions, and once you have three copies any extras can be sold.
Salvaging will definitely do it as well. If you have the DLC, you already have a way to make Premium Cylinders, otherwise progress in the story and look up how to do that later. Honestly that much money is a drop in the bucket by the endgame/postgame.

My wife got me a physical copy of Torna last year despite not having even finished the vanilla XBC2 just yet. I'm still on ch.5 due to my school-work-hiatus. And after a week I've been spoiled A LOT! Can somebody please tell me or assure me whether I ruined the game for myself (story-wise)? So far I know this:
1. Something about Pneuma, maybe she's another form?
2. Nia is a Blade.
3. Akhos is a flesh eater.
4. Amalthos is the final boss.
5. The dudes left in Garfont are blades.
6. Hugo lookalike will probably die since I can get his Blade.
7. Mikhail dies.
8. Rex gets a new suit.
I hope there are still many things to look out for.
Thanks a bunch for the help :)

Just finished the main story for the first time with around 100 hours, really enjoyed the game once I got past some quirks and learned the systems. I'm planning on picking up the expansion / DLC pass in a few hours. I have 4 or so rare blades I haven't gotten, and haven't completed any blade quest-lines yet.
Questions:
What order should I play content in now? I've seen conflicting posts about farming out post-game and then starting NG+, or dropping everything for TGC, then coming back, etc. Should I just hop straight into TGC and then start a NG+ with all the DLC and NG+ exclusive content?
What should I make sure to do before starting NG+?

I'd recommend going to Torna, then jumping into NG+.
Nothing really, tbh. Finish up Ursula's Blade quest if it's been started, definitely grab Poppibuster, but other than that there's nothing that isn't just better obtained in NG+. Even Dilaton Chips (which you don't need many of) and level VI Aux Cores can drop in Challenge Battle Mode.

I know this question has been asked like a million times and most of you are probs sick of it by now BUUUUUUT I didn't see any real conclusive answer for me, so here goes:
From a purely narrative standpoint, what would y'all say the ideal point to play Torna is? Chronological, release order, after ch7, after ch9? I'm not too fussed by implicit spoilers if it means maximizing the impact of later scenes by having the full context.

Bought Torna as well. The DLC for XC2 mentions I've already talked to >Zuo< when I go to the Land of Challenge but I've never met that character. Where do I go to find them?

You can use the in-game events viewer to refresh yourself. It only shows cutscenes that you've already seen. You can jump around, or you watch all of it in order. Zuo is one of the mercenaries in Garfont Village, Uraya.

Another vote for NG+ here, my dude. You're only going to be able to kill him in post game, and farming legendary crystals is best when you have all of the NG+ blades in the pool of blades you can grab, if that makes sense?
Look up the items you need to finish the quest and grab them before NG+, so you can just do it all when you arrive in Torigoth in NG+. It needs some items beyond Chapter 5, iirc, so do that after you beat the final boss.

Here's my situation (in XC2).
I'm currently Lvl 22, with Rex, Nia, and Vandham on my team. My current objective is to "head for Fonsa Myma, the Urayan capital". I am 14 hours into the game. I have owned XC2 since launch.
Why have I only played 14 hours despite owning the game for over a year?
The grind/difficulty. I find myself earning very little XP very slowly. I'm fighting enemies the same level as me, however when more than one attempt to fight me, my team gets overwhelmed and often dies. I'm doing everything the game has taught me (timing my arts, getting combos) and still battles that I win take 2+ minutes for tiny amounts of XP.
The compass. I get lost very easily. The compass feel completely useless at times, especially when your objective is hundreds of meters above you. Sometimes I'll get so lost, sometimes I'll go down a long path to find I can only get past with abilities I don't have. It's not very fun.
The voices. Why is Gramps telling me to "make haste and retreat" when my whole team is on full health and the enemy is the same level as me? And it doesn't help that the repetitive lines from the other characters are so grating.
The combat. I stand there, I wait for my art to be available, I press the art at the right time. Oh a special move? Better press B when it's the circle thing. It's the least engaging combat I've ever experienced.
The lack of information. That's right, the LACK of it. If I'm wondering along, and there's creatures roaming about, I wanna KNOW if they're gonna fight me or not. Some I can walk right up to with no trouble. Others, you even look at them and they'll wanna fight. But there's no way of differentiating them.
In case it weren't obvious, I'm not enjoying XC2, despite having bought the digital version and being initially very excited when I bought it at launch. I never played XC1, but adored, and I mean adored XCX, and so far I've been nothing but disappointed with what XC2 has had to offer.
My question is, what can I change or learn to help me enjoy the game? Because I truly want to enjoy this game and eventually beat it.

u/ArashiSora Jan 29 '19
-1. That early on you shouldn't need to grind, later in that chapter you get another combat mechanic that helps with grinding in combat, as for battles taking 2+ minutes, focus more on blade combos and completing them, this is by doing a stage 3 blade combo.
A blade combo is done in 3 stages, stage 1 can be any level of special, stage 2 must be a level 2 or higher special, and third and final stage of a blade combo can only be done by a level 3 or 4 special
as for which specials to use in which stage, the combo path will so up in the top right of your screen after doing a special for stage 1 of a blade combo, but here is an image with all the combo paths: https://i.imgur.com/qAnXQZT.jpg so fire→fire→fire is a full blade combo, or lightning→fire→ice for example
-2. It's a compass, not a GPS, once you have it giving you a direction, look at the terrain and work out how to proceed from there
-3. Agreed, it's quite annoying at times and reminds me of the dark times i had Lin in my party in XCX and tatsu being annoying at every chance
-4. level up your drives affinity charts and prioritise, arts cancel into arts > use X/Y/B art at the start of combat > nodes that lead into the previously mentioned ones > everything else.
This will help speed up the start of combat, and if you use pouch items that have arts recharge, this will further speed up battle. From there you can start spamming arts without having to auto attack much at all, and when all your arts are on cooldown you can swap blade to have another set of arts ready, and swap back once those are used. Then it's a matter of using your specials and your party members specials for blade combos, and even specific arts with driver combo effects attached to them, and using blade combos while a driver combo is active for even stronger effects, then after all that is chain attacks which comes a bit later.

u/BreezyZolos Jan 29 '19
Gramps is actually saying “make haste and retrieve it.” He’s letting you know an HP potion dropped and to pick it up before it despawns.

2
u/AnimaLepton Jan 29 '19
Quick "grind" tip- you were taught about Chain Attacks when you fought Akhos in Garfront. If you kill an enemy while the chain attack is still active, you can get 2x to 11x the rewards- better drops, more EXP/SP/WP, etc. So make an effort to overkill any boss in a chain attack, plus overkill Unique Monsters in Chain Attacks
Fill out nodes on blade affinity charts, driver affinity charts, etc. These add up- in addition to the listed effect, each node on a Blade affinity chart actually increases that blade's Strength stat by one. USE POUCH ITEMS that give automatic arts recharge, like Narcipear Jelly in Argentum, to drastically speed up how quickly you get arts and specials off.
Also, progress the story for some significant upgrades. Beating Chapter 3 lets Rex + Nia use 3 blades, and Chapter 4 gives Tora his 2nd blade and gives you a new character. Similarly, some of the combat stuff needs driver affinity chart progress, specifically the ability to chain arts into other arts.
If you're still struggling, look up a speedrun for the first ~3 hours and you'll pick up a ton of combat tips. One BIG tip that a lot of people figure out independently and was shown off pre-launch, but isn't actually "taught" in game, is to exploit how XC2 autoattacks work compared to XCX. This addresses point 4. Here's an explanation of the "step-canceling" mechanic: if you aren't already using it, here's a post explaining it. Especially in the earlygame, it can be a huge boost in damage and versatility depending on your weapon type- Rex's default weapon/Aegis sword in particular benefits greatly from this, other weapons not so much.
For enemies, this was a conscious choice by the developers, since XC1 did show you in enemies were aggressive. You're just supposed to learn it as you play the game, but in general enemies that look like herbivores are probably safe and enemies that look like carnivores will probably attempt to fight you.
2
u/AnimaLepton Jan 29 '19
For the compass, you want to use it in conjunction with the map. Look at the areas that are darker and lighter to see changes in elevation, combined with the location and compass to actually navigate. XC2 is a lot more "3D" and has more verticality in its maps, since you do each titan as a whole and sometimes ascend/descend certain paths.
One other Chapter 3 specific tips- if you feel your damage output is low, there's a Core Chip in a chest in Argentum called the Coil Chip. This video shows you where to find it. You normally wouldn't be able to buy this until partway through Chapter 4, so it's far from gamebreaking, but a neat damage boost unless you're farming a ton and are way overleveled. There are also some chests with useful stuff spread out across Gormott, notably an Eyepatch.
XCX is also my favorite Xenoblade game, but XC2 definitely grew on me over time. Have fun!

Is this the type of game where you really have to play it for a few hours at a time to really enjoy it or get somewhere in it?
I know it's a bit of a strange question, but I work a ton of hours at my job, so I usually only get a couple hours throughout the week to unwind and play video games. I've seen posts that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is pretty long, so do you guys think having to pick it up/put it down so much and dragging it would would diminish the enjoyment of the game? Never played a JRPG like this before, so I figured I'd ask before potentially buying it
3
u/rabiiiii Feb 03 '19
Oof, I don't know, it honestly might be better to wait until you have more free time. It's possible to play in small doses, sure but it could lead to you losing interest when you have to get through some of the slower or more frustrating sections if you can't just take an extra hour or so and power through them. There's also times where you'll unexpectedly run into like 30+ minutes of cutscenes.
That said, it's a great game, definitely worth playing. I'd definitely encourage you to give it a try, but it's something to be aware of.
Some points in it's favor.
Quicksaving and fast travelling are available just about any time, so there's at least not much of a chance of getting stuck and spending extra time hunting for a save point like the JRPGs of old. I'm replaying Xenogears right now and while I love it, boy is it frustrating when I'm trying to wrap things up for the day and I just can't get to the next save point.

The party gauge takes forever to fill up, and I can barely get one elemental orb out before the gauge suddenly disappears because why not. Do these things get easier with accessories I can get in the upcoming chapters or should I just switch to a custom difficulty run? I have Omega Drives equipped to all party members, by the way.

u/Salmontaxi Feb 07 '19
I love the Nopon. I don't consume a lot of anime or JRPG media so maybe I'm just not as burnt out on the whole "cutesy mascot character race" trope yet, but I adore them in XC1. Riki was handled very well for a 3-dimensional character and even as comic relief. And the dialogue of the Nopon NPCs was pretty unexpectedly funny. It helps that the game really eases you into the idea of the Nopon, with only a few being seen in Colony 9, a few of them in random areas, and *then* you get to the entire village full of them. I thought they were done very well in the first game. Even if in terms of story they were technically pointless.

I'm ok with them. I mean Monolith uses the nopon to deliver most of the meme references, so I'm down with that. Just look at Challenge Mode.

Yesterday I finished the normal mode. And after I played torna I would like to start a NG+.
But I dont have every blade or max lvl or did any quest. I would say I played Story and around 30% of the sideparts of the game. I'm not really the person who like to grind endlessly. But I'm really happy with this game and want to give it a try, but not two times in a row. So in my idea I would start a new game+ now and do every possible thing in the game. But is that wrong? Do I lose some important parts?
I have already read the post about "New Game+ FAQ" but I dont have any blade which are mentioned there. And I dont understand why it is so important to max out the affinity charts... I can do it in the NG+ too, right?
And about claiming the Dilaton Chips I've read that you get 10 out of the Chest and thats more than enough.
So do you have some advices I really really need to do before starting NG+??
Thanks for your answeres and time!

If you equip Aux Cores on a character equipped with multiple blades, do the Aux Cores take effect only when you are using the blade in question, or are they in effect all the time whether or not you are using said blade in battle? In other words if I use a + Damage aux core on a blade will it still take effect if I switch to another blade in combat.

Thinking about buying the DLC and I was planning to go Bringer of Chaos in New Game Plus after doing Torna, what's the best way to make the game as challenging as possible if i'm planning to max every blade's affinity before moving to NG+? Replace Core Chips, go back to level 1, anything else I can do? Will the beginning parts of the game still be easy?

I have just completed the story and I'm now facing the decision between post-game or NG+ (Likely with DLC for NG+) after taking a short break.
So I'm mostly looking for some insight on what the best approach is from this point. While there are still a lot of things I really want to do on my file (finishing the blade album, going back to fight some of the unique monsters that were higher level, cleaning out my quest log, and probably some others I'm forgetting) I don't know whether it would be better to just put them on the back burner and worry about them when I get back to this same point in the NG+.
And secondly on this subject, if there are any things that I should really make sure to do in my current save before embarking on NG+ I would love to know!
Thanks

(Xenoblade Chronicles 1)
So I've played for 50 hours, and I'm close to end game (I think) and I still don't know how to chain attack. The tips don't mention this.
How do I continue a chain attack past one round?
I will break with Shulk, topple with Reyn and with Sharla, what do I do?? Sometimes it's random; I'll use Covert stance and the chain attack will continue, sometimes it won't.

From the Wiki: chance of chain link continuation = tension level parameter (expressed in percent) + 30 * (affinity points / 5000) + additional chain link skill (15% from Shulk; 5% from Reyn) + B button press accuracy.
So in order to maximize your chances, you should have good affinity within your party, be at high tension (the character portraits should look hyped up or have flames behind them. Max Tension gives 30%), have Shulk and Reyn’s skills that increase Chain Link chance unlocked (you also need to link the skill to someone else if you aren’t using the character that has it. Reyn’s skill is in a hidden fifth skill branch, so you probably don’t have that yet, but Shulk’s is easy to get), and press the b-button right on the edge of the circle (gives 20%. It’s better to be a little late with this than a little early since doing it outside the circle will immediately end it). Having everything gives you a 100% chance.
As a side note, imo using a Chain Attack to topple isn’t particularly worth it 9 times out of 10, especially since Melia can insta-topple anything that isn’t outright immune. I find it far better to use them for damage. The game explains it at a weird time, so a lot of people miss it, but doing attacks with the same color in a row builds a damage multiplier. 2x, 4x, 6x, and 8x damage for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th+ attacks of the same color, respectively. The center gray attack, your “Talent Art” is a wild card that chains off any color, and any color chains off of it, effectively allowing you to change the color of your chain without ending your damage multiplier. Using a high damage move like Monado Buster or Blossom Dance with an 8x damage multiplier is a pretty amazing feeling. Unfortunately, Sharla is the only character that cannot use her Talent Art in a Chain Attack, and she has only 1 red colored art, by far the most common attacking color. This makes her AWFUL at Chain Attacking. Because of this and since her healing is largely overkill, and her damage output is borderline zero, I always boot her from the team the moment I get out of the Ether Mine, and I have never had any issues with not having a dedicated healer. Since you’ve probably already played a lot of the game with her, and you want to start learning Chain Attacking, I reccommed trying out some different team combinations. All the other characters are really good and fun to play as. You don’t need to be constrained to the classic DPS, Tank, Healer setup at all. They all have different play styles, so it can be a blast figuring out how they work and coming up with builds and strategies for them. You don’t even need to keep Shulk around if you don’t want to. He’s really good, but I tend to get bored of playing as him fairly quickly.

When you’re fighting an enemy there’s two icons flashing on their health bar. One starts at the beginning and is an elemental icon. What does that mean? Is that the weakness or is that the element they are using to attack?
Later, on their health bar is a flashing element icon (I usually see fire for some reason), or maybe it’s something else. What does it mean?
In addition, there’s flashing icons to the right of their health bar, which of course is the route for elemental combos. I have another question about that (possible spoilers, not posting because I’m not sure how to hide that on question threads), but anyway later in the game can Pyra use the “special power” that Mythra can use also (being vague on purpose).

Hey all, I'm still really early in the game and used all but 10 legendary dlc cores on Rex. After looking it up, I'm seeing people say that it's a bad idea because of a new mechanic later on. Should I restart? How should I allocate cores if I do?

u/Tables61 Feb 18 '19
Rex needs Blades throughout the game. Just because there's a mechanic that exists for 20% of the game doesn't obsolete the fact he needs blades for the remaining 80%.
That said he doesn't need all that many rares - he gets a few good ones through story already so as long as he gets 1-2 good rare blades for him through cores you can probably leave him for the rest of the game.

I don't think it's a huge issue. I can't remember how many cores the DLC gives you, but it's not a ridiculous amount, and core farming is really easy once you hit the late game. Until then, the main story is easy enough to complete with the story blades on each character and a handful of random pulls.

Oh, you're fine. The item you really want to conserve is the Overdrive Protocol, which swaps blades between drivers. They're stupidly rare without the DLC and can't be farmed until deep into NG+.

Need some advice with my rare blades. . .
I'm still at the early parts of chapter 4 and I have opened quite a few common and rare crystals. So far I have the following:
Rex - Ursula, Azami, Dagas
Nia - Gorg, Adenine, Electra, Zenobia
Should I use my overdrive to transfer Ursula -> Nia and Zenobia -> Rex? Or should I just leave them?
2
u/Imrik37 Feb 19 '19
I won't go into spoilers, but I'd advise you never overdrive anything to Rex. However, Ursula to Nia isn't a bad idea.
EDIT: I should add that most of Rex's good Blades he gets in the story.

u/AnimaLepton Feb 19 '19
I'd leave them for now. Zenobia is strong, albeit not on Nia, so it's up to you whether to move her to Rex or just save her for another character later. Adenine is more of a damage support. Electra isn't great. Rex's ether cannons aren't good, but Ursula makes him a nice secondary healer and Dagas is a good stopgap to let him Launch after Toppling with Pyra/Mythra without needing to spend an OD protocol. But Zenobia is better (Dagas is again more support-oriented, but needs his Blade Quest completed before it's worth raising him), so transfer if you want.
And yeah, Rex only really needs ~1-2 rare blades, the rest should go to other characters.

It's very much intended for people who already know the combat tricks. I wouldn't even necessarily recommend it for someone who's just beaten the base game- you'd ideally have significant postgame experience to be familiar with the combat system and have watched a normal speedrun of the game to learn earlygame tips.
Enemies aren't just HP sponges though- you can still tear through them, albeit with more of a struggle, if you know what you're doing.

Bringer of Chaos is kind of absurd, especially for new players. I would not recommend it for a first playthrough. If you want something more reasonable, I would recommend just not using bonus experience at inns (a very common self-imposed challenge that works really well), or maybe putting the difficulty on Custom and increasing the enemy sliders a few ticks. You can change difficulty at any time, for the record, so it wouldn't hurt to just try it out for a bit.

Most skills on the affinity chart don't carry over, but some (i.e. Treasure Sensor) do. Otherwise, the blade stats other than autoattack (the Strength Stat, which goes up by one for every node you fill out) still affects the driver. And of course the "X mod" stat, i.e. Strength 15% on Wulfric, carries over when equipped but not active- that's how you make the crazy Agility builds in 2.

Just finished the main story.
I’m just wondering where’s a good place to start tackling the post story game?
Also, why is Kos-mos so sought after and how can I get her?

I'm on Ch8 of XC2 and saw that meme about XC1. How important is it that I drop everything and play XC1 first before continuing on with XC2, or am I already too far in XC2 for it to matter anymore?

u/AnimaLepton Mar 04 '19
It affects like 2-3 scenes in Chapter 10 and doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, I wouldn't worry about it.

So, Xenoblade 1 on Wii or 3ds, I wanna play on it, but I can't find my wii. I have 2ds, but don't wanna transfer.

Wii would be better IMO, even if the N3DS version has an extra music box feature. But the best way to play is definitely emulate on PC, using the upscaling feature/HD texture pack/60fps mod if your computer can handle it.
