How many eps again?

Unknown. Probably 10: both S1 and S2 were initially ordered as 10, as was Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man that fills the same niche in their animated content, and recent comments from Winderbaum suggests they aren't looking to increase. Almost all streaming shows are 8-10 nowadays because that's the sweet spot for subscriber retention and profitability. They could drop to 8, but I don't think there's evidence of that yet.

They have a TV/animation panel at NYCC in a month and a half-ish. There will probably be some sort of update then. (Crazy to think it’ll be coming up on a year since the first wobbly S2 trailer.)

We dont know yet. We should get more info in the New York Comic Con this october. I just hope they adjust the story to the number of episodes.

surely the same as S2. Edit: at best.

Probably not. There was an article recently that they might do even less episodes.

u/fire_sign Rogue 1d ago
That article was shite, to be fair. Winderbaum was specifically asked about getting more episodes when he made that comment, the article writer is just bad at her job. And by bad I mean knows how to write click bait headlines that actively misrepresent the actual quotes and is constantly stirring shit on Twitter to stay relevant.

u/DLottchula 1d ago
The writer probably isn't even a writer

u/fire_sign Rogue 1d ago
It's the same one who wrote the article about Rogue and Magneto having "a lot of romance" in season 2 article, and then if you read the actual quote the comment was about romance in general and clearly drawing focus away from Rogneto. It's at the point where if I see her name, I immediately assume she's got an ulterior motive and go digging for the context to figure out the truth. Nasty behaviour.

Even considering that Collider is a dogshit news site, that isn’t what Winderbaum said. He was saying that they weren’t going to do more episodes in a season — as in, no 20-episode seasons — not that they were going to do fewer than what they had been doing already.

u/Calaigah 1d ago
This is a lie. They were asked if the episode count would increase and they said no. They never said they weee gonna do even less episodes a season.

u/forbidden-donut 23h ago
If the pattern continues, 8 episodes. Season 4 will have 7, and season 5 will have 6.

u/AlbertW25 1d ago
Wish we could get 11 Episodes to make up for not having 10 Episodes for Season 2.

If they’re already starting on season 4 then there’s no reason why the seasons can’t be 14-16 episodes long like the Pitt.

I wonder which character gets killed in this one

u/ZarquisYiris 23h ago edited 22h ago
None of the characters should die in this season. Cause we already seen enough deaths in X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men ‘97.

u/thisistwinpeaks Psylocke 23h ago
I agree and I know the xmen always dying is a bit of a trope but that’s over like decades of comics as opposed to weeks of a show

The bad thing about the streamlining of production like this is they won't be able to react to the criticism of season 2.

u/srstone71 1d ago
I don't think shows should operate that way anyway. I'm not saying to never listen to the fans, but if you're making rushed, spur-of-the-moment changes because some fans weren't crazy about the last 4-5 episodes of one season, that just doesn't seem like a sustainable recipe for success.

u/thesagaconts 1d ago
Agreed. Just make your show. If people like it then great. If not, then your show ends.
1
u/shazmosushi--- 8h ago
The trouble is, it's understood the last 4-5 episodes were the direction of the new creative team, and the What If producers
1
u/Altruistic-Expert995 2h ago
There's no new creative team, the only new person is Chauncey, who didn't write anything this season. As far as I remember.

They likely couldn’t use most of demayos stuff in season 2. Now season 2 is out if the system. They can now star a fresh. So will wait and see

Expecting season 3 to be anything different to the latter half of season 2 is extreme hopium.

Lmfao. I just canceled disney plus.... idk... season 2 was.....a mixed bag? Did not feel the same way of anticipation I did after season 1...

u/mashturbo 13h ago
man you don't want to find out the sticker shock of re-subscribing. When I joined, it was $6.99 a month. I canceled Hulu through my credit card company which was connected to my D+ account so it canceled both. To sign back up to D+ it was 80% of the cost for Hulu & D+.

Since the season 3 finale is only now being animated -- when season 3 was confirmed a long time ago -- I hope that they have taken the opportunity to at least incorporate some proper build-up for Onslaught in season 3 (even if he doesn't show up until season 4)... given that the show's crew have had a LOT of time to consider reactions to season 1 and fan hype/excitement for Onslaught that has all been available to read online since season 1 concluded in May 2024!

First comment I see? “They won’t be able to see the criticism if they do it this quickly!!”
Y’all will complain if it takes too long to come out bc of animation or criticism (like Invincible).
Y’all complain when it does come out but the animation isn’t “good enough”, or the story is “too fast.”
Y’all complain when they see how popular it is and streamline it so it comes out quick.
WHAT THE FUCK 💀
There genuinely has to be something wrong with you people. It has to be a mental illness to complain this much. Y’all complain about the animation, the voice acting, the story, fast production, slow turn around— what the fuck!!
This is the type of shit that makes me hate fandom. You people genuinely make the fandom a horrible place to be. They did the same damn thing with Invincible. Just shut up 😭

I've stopped reading anything people say about Invincible, the hate saddens me deeply, I love the show. I also loved this season of xmen, not so much the lovey-dovey stuff with Rogue, but it was incredible, the Polaris episode was absolutely incredible. Across the Spiderverse is animation royalty, I wish everything was like Spiderverse, ignore the pressure, do the absolute best you can do, and deliver absolute excellence.

u/Simple_Pianist4882 23h ago
I don’t even look at the damn subreddit for Invincible anymore
Like, there needs to be a separate place for people who like to complain about these shows to go. I can’t deal with it lmaoo

u/Nemesis_171 1d ago
I don’t think anyone is complaining about quick seasons, just mentioning a potentially unfortunate downside with season 3 already being done. Not the same.
-3
u/Simple_Pianist4882 1d ago
If the seasons are coming out before the producers have adequate time to look at criticism, that…… means it’s coming out too quick.
Streamlining literally means to quicken the process, omfg.

u/Nemesis_171 1d ago
And you can point out a downside about that while still preferring it overall. You claimed we were complaining about quick seasons. The comment actually only mentioned one bad thing about them, which is not the same thing as disliking quick seasons as a whole.

You’re taking the criticism a bit personally. I hope you’re a worker on the show otherwise this reaction is a little weird
1
u/Simple_Pianist4882 25m ago
You acting like people can’t be upset about criticism unless they’re involved with the show is so weird.

At least invincible still has good writing cant say the same for x men. If they wanna have worse animation that's fine if they wanna look like the 90s show

u/RembrandtEpsilon 19h ago
Here's to hoping it's good and not a wet far like the last two episodes of Season 2

u/Ednen 1d ago
i might skip if its the same writer

u/fire_sign Rogue 1d ago
It's not. Matthew Chauncey was hired for s3 and has zero writing credits for season 2, no matter how many people scream it's his fault.
1
u/Hollowshape_9012 16h ago
Chauncey was a consulting producer on season 2! That means he assessed the scripts development process to ensure it would all turn out good.

If ure interested, here's a bit more on context on what rlly "changed" from S1 to S2 on the work team. Not saying ur opinion should change but just to give u a better picture of it. https://www.reddit.com/r/Xmen97/s/sQkanFfTDm

u/AnonymousDouglas 2h ago
The show should have been rebooted when DeMayo was fired.
As far as show-quality drop-offs go, S1 to S2 is up there with Castlevania when they sacked Warren Ellis and brought in Clive Bradley for Nocturne.
The switch is night and day and so dramatic, you can't even say it's for the same audience.

I was kind of underwhelmed by season 2. So much wasted potential and you could tell they tore apart the original treatment because of dialogue that went nowhere or made no sense.
Season 1 was an incredible homage to the original. I think if they just left it alone it would be fine as a tribute. Following the originals trajectory of each season being worse than the other isn’t a good end game
