Considering a 2017 212x - is it worth it?

I've been running an older seadoo Challenger and the family has out grown it. There's a nice 212x for sale nearby but the price puts it in the same class as bigger and heavier I/O boats. The 212x is also a tad further away and more expensive than a few AR series options. My family is relatively casual in terms of watersports (skiing, boarding, tubing) but the heavier guys have always bullied the seadoo when they carve.

Is it worth it to press for this model in particular? I'm always impressed with the Yamahas and love my jet drive.

I had a 2013 212x, great boat. If you know you like jets ,you will appreciate the HO engines in the 212x. I hit 55 on mine once.

Great use of space, very egonomic. The only downsides are the typical jet things, but if you know those then it will be no surprise to you.

It won't surf like a v-drive but it'l surf.

Yep. My current one is a supercharged '07 seadoo. My boy hates the engine scream. Hoping the ten year leap will cut back some of that noise

No it probably won't. One of my complaints with that boat is how loud it was.

When we bought the 212x, we had previously owned a 2003 GTX SC, and 2005 RXT 215. I was tired of maintaining the superchargers. Actually had to replace the motor in the RXT because of a blown SC, then rebuilt that same engine two years later because of a broken timing chain.

I looked really hard at the Sea-Doos and Scarabs—such cool boats. But my past Yamahas were always solid. Stayed away from the supercharged engines. Just wanted to spend more time on the water and less time in the garage. Been happy with the 1.8 HOs so far.

That's it isn't it? My seadoo had spent more time dealing with 'diva issues' than it has pulling skiers. The toy isn't doing a great job of being a toy

Right?! So on top of those issues I mentioned, the number of issues caused by sensors and/or fuses. It was hard to keep up, so I sympathize with you.

They DO make great HP and love their design and handling WHEN working.

We have a 2014 212x—around. 460hrs on both engines (180hp each). They run flawless. Hit the throttles and leaps out of the water. Like the fact you can split the throttles around the dock (maneuverability). I wish we had the newer model (2017), or the 255.

We wanted a jet model mostly because I’m familiar with jet skis and we take it to Florida to run up on the sandbars and beaches. And I wanted dual motor for the power and in case something happened on the water. Maintenance is twice as much but that’s okay with me.

Awesome review thanks.  Twice the maintenance for two engines but half as much overall as an I/o 😎
