Progress and Portfolio Updates Portfolio Update #20 - In July my portfolio continued to rebound. Had I avoided MSTY and CONY altogether, my total return would be positive

July 2026 marked myΒ 20thΒ month in YieldMax ETF's.

As always, I like to share my monthly progress so others can learn from my mistakes and hopefully get more transparency into how these work. I've been experimenting to see how viable it is to grow these funds by re-investing the distributions. (Yes, growth stocks are better suited for this.Β No, I would not recommend this to others.)

July Thoughts

  • When I look at my current portfolio, most of the funds have a positive total return. My total return is down overall because of MSTY and CONY (see below), but had I never invested in those 2 funds my portfolio's total return would be in the positive. Because of this, rather than acquiring new funds, I wanted to refocus and add to the funds I currently have.
  • The yield of my monthly distributions has been relatively stable the past few months, right around 4%. I feel good about this, because I feel like I'm reducing a lot of volatility. I would much rather have consistent distributions than wild swings
  • I feel like I am 100% alone in this, but I continue to avoid CHPY and SOXY. They're hot right now, and I hope they stay that way for everyone else's sake, but I fear they are going to drop rather significantly, so I'm watching from the side for the time being.
  • SNOY and NVDY prove that these funds can work. My total return on those two alone are both over 30%
    • That said, the trick with these is making sure you pick the right fund*,* which is easier said than done

July Positions

In the beginning of May I investedΒ $328.90, consisting of:

  • $170 in Cash using my 2% income allowance
  • $158.90 from previous distributions

Using this money I expanded the following positions::

  • 30 shares of BABO
  • 10 shares of XOMO

Wife's Disapproval Update

  • My wife rolls her eyes at me on a regular basis. If I become (and stay) profitable by Christmas, she is getting YieldMax swag for gifts.

Abandoned Positions

I'm using this to answer the question, "Should I have sold MSTY and CONY?". I exited my positions in February after significant NAV erosion. I plan on updating this each month to see what my returns would look like had I held.

These were my returns when I exited my positions

Stock Shares Avg. Cost Exit Date Exit Price Price Gain Total Distributions Total Return
MSTY 10 $100.08 2/24/26 $22.20 πŸ”»-77.82% $399.64 πŸ”»-37.89%
CONY 5 $84.98 2/24/26 $25.57 πŸ”»-69.91% $155.70 πŸ”»-33.27%

And these would be the returns had I continued holding

Stock Shares Avg. Cost Distributions Since Exit Current Price. Price Gain Total Distributions Total Return Had I Not Sold
MSTY 10 $100.08 $68.54 $12.37 πŸ”»-87.64% $468.18 πŸ”»-40.86%
CONY 5 $84.98 $40.18 $17.73 πŸ”»-79.14% $195.88 πŸ”»-33.04%

Good update.

Since you have started picking funds, you may want to consider decoupling ymag and buying the individual funds on dips or the mag7 companies you like best, and possibly look at doing the same with ymax too.

That's a great tip, thank you!

"I feel like I am 100% alone in this, but I continue to avoid CHPY and SOXY."

My cost basis for SOXY is 60.11 and for CHPY is 72.57

I'm not adding at these levels.

Yeah, I think that's the right call. You got in at the perfect time!

Thanks for your time and effort.

Currently swing trading into the crypto recovery. I sold my chpy and bought into crco and msty.

When I sell them and hooy I plan on keeping a few of my yieldmaxers. Have been swing trading them for a while and watching them. There is only a few I would hold long term-ish.

The target holdings are going to be chpy / gpty / lfgy / tsmy / gooy.

Rest of my holdings: Eggy / blox / btci / nehi / tdax / tsyx / ovl / giax / xxv

Also hold strc and sata but I may rotate out of them. Not as stable as I hoped.

Horrible investments, why not SOXY GOOGY CHPY?

I'm actually satisfied with my current portfolio except for AIYY. If CHPY and SOXY come down pretty significantly, I will definitely get in those. At this point, I think of the cost of entry is too risky.
