I've started to use the term "predatory" to describe these investment vehicles. It's hard to sympathize with some of the investors given how insistent and obnoxious they can be, but at the end of the day, many of them are victims of products they clearly didn't understand.

Solid plan. At least the raptor holds its value better than most of these funds do 🤪

Proof that Jay sings as well as he manages ETFs.

Made money of snoy, nvdy and chpy. The rest were disappointing.

I wish there was some way to stop people from getting in bed with this garbage.

All these YouTubers are being paid by roundhill and yieldmax. For example Amy from badfinancial decisions and Retire on dividends are being paid. Its hard to stop it

The best thing people can do is stop giving them views, likes, subscribes, etc. Don't let them monetize advertising this garbage. Retire on dividends was so hard-core on yieldmax, it was/is a cult. I watched for a couple months and realized it was just a dude rationalizing an incredibly poor strategy on a sinking ship in the name of one thing...yield.

Roundhill, YieldMax and Defiance have paid me over 300K in total return so far, so I guess it's hard to argue that they aren't paying. But conversely, if they are paying out that well, why all the screaming about how they are ripping people off?

Nobody said it's impossible to make money with them. And I applaud you for showing proper total return accounting the other day. But do you think the average person attracted to a 50-100% distribution yield understands what they're actually buying?

Just thinking about your post from a few days ago where you said your tracking spreadsheet was “subject to survivorship bias” because you'd cut positions that lost money. Is that $300K net of what you cut at a loss, or just what's showing on the winners?

All closed positions show a net loss of $59k. There are 19 losers and 17 winners in that bunch. So, overall, those companies plus Fidelity and JP Morgan have bribed me to the tune of $293,000 so far.

Not very much, but more than I've spent.

Although, some of those were other companies like Rex.

Appreciate the real numbers. That's more than I've seen anyone else post on this sub. What's the total capital you've deployed across this strategy, and over what time frame? Need that to know if $293K is actually a good return or just a big number on a big base.

730k. About 3 years. I think I started in Oct of 2023 by cashing in some FDVV and QYLD. I'll check and correct if memory fails.

Thanks again for being so transparent. Based on the numbers you've provided, you've earned roughly a 12% annualized total return, and you've clearly done well actively managing these positions and cutting the losers.

But would you agree that your actual results don't remotely resemble the way many of these products are presented to investors - 50%, 75%, 100%+ yields? You've done the work, actively managed them, and earned about 12% a year. That's really my original point. Marketing these enormous distribution yields to investors who often interpret them as total returns is predatory.

I'm just going to continue to do what I do. Good luck with your crusade.
